P: Program error when saving, lag when zooming, changes not reflecting in document window (macOS)

Since the 22.1 update, MAJOR bugs:

- ‘could not save because of a program error’ when saving, work around: hiding a few layers or folders.

- major lag when zooming in

- actions and changes delay in showing, to the point where they never show up - once I close the document and quit Photoshop and go back in the changes are  visible.

what’s going on??

Hi Jeffrey, luckily i fixed the problem (kind of) just in time. Yesterday I updated photoshop to version 22.1 and then is where I got the bug where i couldnt save anything due to a 'program error'. The funny thing is that i could save a just opened blank page, or a page i just opened with a few lines from the brush tool. But i couldnt save much more than that for example if i used the rectangle tool and rastarized the layer it wouldnt save because of a program error. Or if i dragged an element from another photoshop file into this new one it woulnt save. These are just random examples. I also couldnt save old files if i changed them in certain ways. I fixed this by going back to an older version of photoshop, version 22.0. Before this update i would quite often get the error message while trying to save but it would always succesfully save on the second attemt. I still now get the error occasionally.

I am using a wacom mobile studios pro 16 (gen 1).

I am also using windows 10.

@Natasha Heyland

that confused me too, but yesterday morning my MBP said updated today when I checked creative cloud and was fixed, iMac is the same.
both were updated to 22.1 the day before.

A little frustrated that this new update wiped my photoshop settings, that cost me extra time to reimport etc.

Adobe can’t seem to get much right at the moment. But at least I have some gimmicky features like sky replacement 😒

Unfortunately that didn't help, same problems.

Same, seems to happen to me after using the line or rectangle tool both rasterized or not. After I cant save, save as ( ive different file types) or merge layers.

When I delete the layer with the ex. rectangle or line it will allow me to save again.

v22.1 here in Windows 10. I'm sitting here with a days worth of matte painting work, unable to save or export. The best I could do was take a screenshot of my work.

20+ years using Photoshop, and I've weathered through some pretty nasty bugs, but this is pushing me to search for an alternative.

If you're in this group can you try the following?

Right-click/Control-click on the Photoshop application and choose "Show Package Contents. Then disable the unified panel by placing a “~” in front of the folder. Example:
/Applications/Adobe Photoshop 2021/Adobe Photoshop 2021.app/Contents/Required/UXP/~com.adobe.unifiedpanel

Yep. We're trying to reproduce and have some theories.

Not sure if this would be helpful, but I don't get the error if I'm not dragging and dropping an image into an existing layered PSD file. I was able to open a file, change the text ONLY then it saved with no problem. If I open a file, drop a new layer in then is when I get the error.

Is anyone at Adobe working on this? Seem like there are lots of people affected...

I am in the 22.1 group. I did both actions in your post, I still get 'program error' alert when I try to save a document (I do have a random workaround - hiding layers, and then it will save). I also still cannot merge layers or export out without getting thew same warning. Also, if I try to zoom in the image starts to break down and there's missing information.

I was on chat with a rep from Adobe, who took over my computer and tried a few things. They were able to get one document to not showcase these problems by 'save as' to the computer (not cloud), and we assumed that would work for all, but unfortunately other documents still showcase the same problems, even 'saved as' somewhere else.
