P: Program error when saving, lag when zooming, changes not reflecting in document window (macOS)

Since the 22.1 update, MAJOR bugs:

- ‘could not save because of a program error’ when saving, work around: hiding a few layers or folders.

- major lag when zooming in

- actions and changes delay in showing, to the point where they never show up - once I close the document and quit Photoshop and go back in the changes are  visible.

what’s going on??

Working on MacBook Pro 2017 (8g memory) running Big Sur

Add me to the list please. I have the same issues along with the inability to rotate objects in their own layer.

Hi, was there a solution found? This has been happening to me since the update. It's seriously irritating I'm a university student and would benefit if this was resolved.

@Andrew_Sender - I _would_ like to try a "debug" variant of PhotoShop. Will you be sending a "DM" invitation?

Hi @andrew_sender Thanks for the reply.
I will try it.
Thanks for the offer but I'm only a hobbiest, so I think someone who use it daily and more would be more benefit, don't want to take this from someone who could help You better.

I agree, we continue to subscribe to a software service that is BROKEN. I downloaded the current versions of PS, LrC and B recently and nothing works. After opening a file and a couple of changes I get the spinning beachball followed by a total system lockup that can only be resolvedly powering down my computer! I have tried all of the changes found on this and related threads and nothing makes any difference - neither does uninstalling and installing an earlier version. Everything was fine until I downloaded the current versions. How about a subscription-free period Adobe until this is fixed? Why are we paying for something that is UNUSABLE?

This release is completely unacceptable, I have an $80k job that will be due soon, and not being able to use PS is causing anxiety and stress. If there isn't a fix soon, there better be some sort of compensation. This is terrible considering how much we pay for it.

Ok I've done a little more with this issue. It appears to be a memory issue of some kind. Here is what I've found so far

1) The "Program error" seems to happen when I am working on a single blank layer above the background. This does not happen with multiple layers

2) It happens on larger 16bit files.

3) It does not seem to happen on smaller jpg or png 8 bit files

4) The Spot healing brush seems to lag much more than on earlier versions.

5) Sometimes I can make up to 20 "passes" with the brush before I get the program error. The larger the file the fewer the passes I can make.

Any help would be appreciated

Photoshop 2021 V. 22.1.0

IMac Pro 2017 3.2Gig Processor / 128 gig ram /
MacOS Mojave 10.14.6

When using either Spot Healing or Healing Brush I get the following error message:

"Could Not Complete your request because of a program error"

I can sometimes get a couple of clicks before it crashes but that's about it.

Hi @marius ,

We're sorry for the issue and frustration you are enduring.  Can you try re-installing version 22.0.1 in the mean time?  Here is the link to the re-install instructions: https://helpx.adobe.com/download-install/using/install-previous-version.html

We do have a PreRelease program, which is like a beta program.  Would you or your friends like to participate in it?  It would be the latest Photoshop with a fix to your issue.
