P: PS v27.2 & Beta 27.3 Files taking longer to open

Th latest update to stable Photoshop 27.2 is taking ages to open certain files, files that were previouly fine on the last versions

I am on Windows 11, my system is Ryzen, Nvidea and 32 gig

This started in Beta 27.2, where suddenly it would not open files that opened perfectgly fine in the previous version, now it seems that whatever you did in Beta 27.2 you have now added to the latest stable build.

These files vary, one for example is only 35MB, yet takes over 2 mins to load, and files that are 1gig plus that do the same, these files open in seconds in previous version

The only thing I can think/see is something to do with linked files?? The file I mentioned that's 35MB only consists of linked files

Anyone else seen this behaviour with latest Beta and stable versions??

Hallo, vor ein paar Tagen habe ich das Update von Photoshop 27.1 auf Version 27.2 durchgeführt und seit dem dauert das Öffnen von Dateien sehr lange (30 bis zu 60 Sek.) vorher waren es 2-4 Sekunden. Auch das Öffnen von verknüpften Inhalten dauert wesentlich länger. Und wenn man auf einer Ebene auf "Alle geänderten Inhalte aktualisieren" klickt erscheint ein Fenster "Farben werden konvertiert" und es dauert ebenfalls ziemlich lange.

Die Probleme habe ich sowohl unter Windows 11 Pro als auch auf dem MacBook.

Ein Downgrade auf 27.1 bestätigt, dass die Probleme damit nicht bestehen.

@out-of-rosenheim rolling back to 27.1 may be the wisest decisions. Also take screenshots of your Preferences too, to see if they match the same with 27.2

In the CC app, click on apps then on the three dots next to Photoshop (v27.2) and then choose 'Other versions'.

Up until Photoshop version 27.2 on Windows 10, uncompressed PSD/PSB files with maximum compatibility, for example, around 2GB in size containing 60MP RAW images in Smart Objects, opened very quickly from an SSD.

Since updating to Photoshop 27.2, opening these files now takes a very long time. While opening the files, the message "Preparing Smart Object" appears for each Smart Object (see screenshot). This means that if, for example, the file contains three Smart Objects with RAW images as layers, this message appears three times during opening, resulting in a very long wait. Attached are the screenshot and system information.

Due to the maximum compatibility setting when saving the files, a single, uncompressed image layer is actually present in the file, and no Smart Object should need to be calculated for display.

I don't think this is a problem with my installation settings, but rather a bug in the new Photoshop version.

I’m not seeing the same issue on my end. Does this happen with every file or just one in particular? If it’s just one, could you let me know the file size? As a first step, I noticed your GPU drivers haven’t been updated in about 7 months, could you try updating them and see if that helps?

Happy new Year.

The problem started immediately after updating from v27.1 to v27.2. Since my files are usually between 0.8 and 8 GB in size and contain multiple Smart Object layers, the longer loading time was extreme. And the information message shown in the screenshot appeared for every single Smart Object. The problem affected both old and new PSD/PSB files. The Smart Objects always contained RAW files from a camera, developed with Lightroom or ACR. Yes, the graphics driver is a bit older, but it's a stable version for designers.

After trying everything I could for a while without success, I reverted to v27.1. Now everything is working again, and loading the same files is super fast and fine.

So I'm really leaning towards a software problem in the latest Photoshop update, version 27.2.

By the way, this thread also mentions problems with v27.2. Perhaps there's a connection.
