Hello -
Thank you for all the information and reports. Please continue to report, send examples, and system info.
We are aware of more than one issue with the Remove tool as you noted:
Black/Tan Smudge = this thread
Program error =

https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop-ecosystem-bugs/remove-tool-gives-me-a-program-error/idi-p/13821673/page/4#comments but you don't need to repeat your report there, I got you. 🙂

There is not yet a solution - we are still working on it.
Thanks for your patience, everyone!

oops I see now that the original post was about the smudge. Sorry!!!  I still hope that the problem with error message ""Could not complete your request because of a program error" got reported.  Almost seems too late to begin a separate thread for this?  I dunno.  I just want to abe able to use this tool!

I hope that Adobe has noted, there are TWO DIFFERENT PROBLEMS with the remove tool now being reported on this thread. I hate that the "smudge" problem didn't get it's own thread.
This topic began with users reporting an error "Could not complete your request because of a program error" when attempting to even select the remove tool.

@CShubert I hope that this original problem was also relayed to Adobe?

I tried this, and it worked once, but no longer fixing to for me, unfortunately.

Interesting, so it's more widespread than just people using AMD Ryzen CPUs, thanks for pointing that out!

Curiously enough... After not having the incredibly helpful REMOVE tool
work for several days with 24.6.0, yesterday it suddenly worked again for
about five or six applications, and then it started acting up again and
created blocky black areas.

I'm still running Mac OS 12.6.1 due to some video conversion apps that
later updates to the Mac OS disabled.

When this tool works, it is completely remarkable! For example, I had a
photo stitch of 30 images where there was a gap of no information in the
blue sky in the center of the image with some high altitude cirrus clouds.

I really preferred the height of the composition that would include this
area that was missing information. In the past, I would painstakingly use
the clone and healing brush tools to create that missing sky information.
However, in short order, using the remove tool over this blank area of the
canvas created a completely believable continuation of the strato cirrus
clouds against the blue sky! Truly remarkable, and a MASSIVE time saver.

So yes, Adobe... Please fix this for us.

Reffering to the error message when trying to use the remove tool. Had to
roll back to 24.5 to be able to use it.

Are you talking about the black smudge issue or the error message? Because I'm talking about the latter, and unfortunately these two different issues from different threads got merged into one.

On an Intel i5-6600k here with the issue. Seems it's NOT only effecting ryzen 3000 users.
