[Moderator: updated subject line for clarity]

I’m experiencing an issue when using Canon Cinema RAW Lite footage from the EOS C50 on my MacBook Pro M4 Pro running macOS Sequoia. Playback in Premiere Pro 25.6.x works correctly, but when pausing the timeline, some frames display black or magenta bars on teh bottom of the actual frame.

System Details:

  • Mac: MacBook Pro M4 Pro - Sequoia (latest build)

  • Premiere Pro: 25.6.3 (Build 2)

  • Canon Camera: EOS C50 Cinema RAW Lite (.CRM)

  • GPU Acceleration: Metal 3 (20-core GPU) [have tried other settings too]

  • RAM: 48 GB, Storage: 512 GB SSD System Firmware Ver: 13822.41.1  OS Loader Ver: 11881.140.96

    Additional Notes:

    • Occurs only with Canon RAW Lite from EOS C50. BRAW has no uased frame issues

    • Does not occur in Davinci Resolve
    • Playback in Premiere is fine — issue appears only when pausing playhead

    • Happens in Premiere Pro 25.6.3 and 26.x Beta

I'm loving the c50 and while the proxies workflow does work, it's not the efficiency I expect from Premiere. Please can someone restore my sanity..I'm far too old to learn Resolve as well as I know Premeire Thanks

Thanks for your reply Fergus.  Sorry to say, that is far too indefinite for those of us that rely on Premiere to earn a living.

Your proposed workarounds removes most of the beneifts of RAW recorded clips and does not allow us to take full advantage of the camera's open gate features and the Adobe software we have invested in...I myslef have also invested several hundred pounds each year with Adobe and thousands of hours perfecting my Premiere skills over the past decade.  A "wait and see" approach doesn't suit any of us.

So, the reply we have been waiting for all week just says "...in a future version." The shows no sense of urgency from Adobe and belittles what is at stake for users.  Without a remedy schedule from Adobe, showing some urgency in correcting this problem, I -- like most other new C50/R6iii users -- will be forced to move to Resolve, someting I really don't have the time to do.  Please can you escalate the matter with your management teams and be a little more defininte about how long this take. Thanks.

Hi all,

Canon Cinema RAW Light (.CRM) files recorded with the EOS C50 and the EOS R6 Mark III are not currently compatible with Adobe Premiere and our other video applications. Full support for these files will be added in a future version of our software.

Current Workarounds:

  • Use Canon’s Cinema RAW Development (CRD) application to transcode the .CRM files into format like ProRes.

  • Record footage using one of Canon’s non-RAW video formats (e.g., XF-AVC).

We understand that neither of these workarounds is ideal for your workflow and apologize for the inconvenience this causes.

We will update you as soon as a release date for the fix is finalized.

Regards,

Fergus

Appears to be an issue in the premier pro beta as well. Any updates on this from Adobe?

Yes an Adobe employee is on the case and has test footage from me and someone else. At this point they've only been able to re-create the issue rather than solve it. It's frustrating for me but I'm hopeful they will sort it out as losing Canon users to da Vinci resolve is not in their interest. I am also under deadline so fingers crossed

Hi. I'm having the same issue with my C50. Has anyone pointed you to a solution at all? Thanks.

This just made me check my R6iii, and files I shot last week that worked fine in Premier are now doing the same thing. Looks like adobe broke CRM for all canon cameras in the latest update.

Having the same issue with my C50, I've tried Raw LT, ST, and HQ in 4k 16x9, as well as 4:3 open gate modes. The files actually cause Premier to glitch on the UI as well. See the magenta bars while paused, and the timeline dissapearing when playing except for directly on the playhead. The magenta bars/missing bottom portion of the frame persist when rendering & exporting as well, so it's not just a playback issue.

FWIW - I am having a similar issue, but it's also showing up in the exported video 😞
