P: Effect Controls values reset when adjusted using Up/Down arrow keys in Premiere Pro 26.5.0

In Premiere Pro 26.5.0 (Build 99), values changed in the Effect Controls panel using the keyboard Up/Down arrow keys are not retained.

I noticed this specifically with Audio > Volume > Level.

Directly typing a numeric value works correctly.
Dragging the value with the mouse also works correctly.
Only values adjusted using the Up/Down arrow keys revert to their previous value.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Select an audio clip.
  2. Open Effect Controls > Audio > Volume > Level.
  3. Click the numeric value.
  4. Change it using the keyboard Up/Down arrow keys.
  5. Press Enter or click elsewhere.
  6. Continue editing or play the sequence.
  7. The value eventually reverts to its previous value.

Expected Result:
The value changed using the Up/Down arrow keys should be retained.

Actual Result:
The value reverts to the previous value.

Workarounds:

  • Typing the value directly works.
  • Dragging/scrubbing the value with the mouse works.

Premiere Version:
Premiere Pro 26.5.0 (Build 99)

Operating System:
Windows 11

This started after updating to Premiere Pro 26.5.0.

A very similar issue has already been reported in Premiere Pro (Beta) v27.0.0.33. In that report, values changed using the Up/Down arrow keys revert to their previous values, while directly typing a value or scrubbing it with the mouse works correctly. Audio Level is specifically mentioned as one of the affected parameters.

      Update for all on this post: Thanks for taking the time to report on this. This issue has been fixed, and that fix is now available in the latest release of Premiere v26.5.2. 

      If you update and still see the problem, please reply here with your exact version and build of Premiere on what OS, and we will take another look.

      I’ve been curious about this, so gave it a go before updating the Beta. My quick test was to select a clip in the timeline, and use the up/down arrow in the Effects Control Panel to adjust opacity. Esc or clicking outside the control appears to apply it. But my quick indicator was to leave the History panel open. There is no “Edit Parameter” added. And in 26.5.1 and Beta 27.0.0.47, when I click in the timeline or program monitor, the change reverts. 

      In Beta 27.0.0.58, it works fine. The change shows in History as soon as I Esc/Enter/click, and the change sticks.

      Irrelevant to this issue, but I had never noticed: in ECP, escape takes the change; in Properties, it cancels the change.

      I also have this issue. Happens when I type the parameters. If I switch to a different clip on the timeline and come back the parameters are back to what they were. It takes 2-3 times for the new value to go into effect.

      An incredibly annoying issue. Great job, everyone!

        Hi all, 

        We have identified the cause of this problem and fixed it. A patch for v26 that includes this fix will be available very soon, most likely the week of September 27th.

        The fix is also now in Premiere Beta v27.0, build 57 or higher. While we do not suggest customers use beta for production, it is safe to install the beta alongside v26 if you would like to test the fix yourself.

          This is one of the most frustrating problems that I have had with professional editing software in the past 20 years. I can’t believe that a patch will take a week to fix this. As a long-time Adobe user, I am thoroughly disappointed. I use the Motion Properties panel to adjust up to 6 tracks on nearly 40-50 video projects per month, and it has created major problems for my work. This has been functioning properly for years. Its shameful especially with the increase in cost.

          I’m having the same issues but with Motion properties. It has been very frustrating as I have to fix things several times over. I’ve found that if I press “return” after making adjustments, they usually stick, but it was never that way before.

          I’ve been seeing the same problem and it’s putting me behind on my editing since i keep having to fix the same thing 4 to 5 times before it works.

            I merged the other post to this Primary post for this issue. Workarounds are to use the Properties Panel, the sliders in ECP or manually enter numerical values while we work on this issue. You can also downgrade to 26.3.2 until the patch is released. We will post on this thread as soon as a fix is released in the latest version.

            This issue is costing me hours and driving me mad. It is absolutely not limited to the arrow keys. Any numerical value modified on position, scale, crop, rotation… simply disappears after fine tuning. It’s utterly unusable. How is this pro software in 2026?

              You shouldn't take even a single day to fix this issue. It is extremely serious, and it's costing me my relationship with my clients.

                  I merged your post onto our Effects Controls issue. The engineers confirmed from your video that the fix they’re preparing for 26.5.2 should resolve this issue. In the meantime it’s recommended to rollback to 26.3.2 but we will post here once the fix is released publicly. Sorry for the inconvenience.
