P: Effect Controls values reset when adjusted using Up/Down arrow keys in Premiere Pro 26.5.0

In Premiere Pro 26.5.0 (Build 99), values changed in the Effect Controls panel using the keyboard Up/Down arrow keys are not retained.

I noticed this specifically with Audio > Volume > Level.

Directly typing a numeric value works correctly.
Dragging the value with the mouse also works correctly.
Only values adjusted using the Up/Down arrow keys revert to their previous value.

Steps to Reproduce:

Select an audio clip.
Open Effect Controls > Audio > Volume > Level.
Click the numeric value.
Change it using the keyboard Up/Down arrow keys.
Press Enter or click elsewhere.
Continue editing or play the sequence.
The value eventually reverts to its previous value.

Expected Result:
The value changed using the Up/Down arrow keys should be retained.

Actual Result:
The value reverts to the previous value.

Workarounds:

Typing the value directly works.
Dragging/scrubbing the value with the mouse works.

Premiere Version:
Premiere Pro 26.5.0 (Build 99)

Operating System:
Windows 11

This started after updating to Premiere Pro 26.5.0.

A very similar issue has already been reported in Premiere Pro (Beta) v27.0.0.33. In that report, values changed using the Up/Down arrow keys revert to their previous values, while directly typing a value or scrubbing it with the mouse works correctly. Audio Level is specifically mentioned as one of the affected parameters.

In this case we specifically need the Premiere Version and if there was a version where this functioned as expected for you. Also, are you using the up down arrow keys to adjust these parameters in ECP? I’m looking into another issue that may be related, but I’ll need the information in the link above to confirm.

We are experiencing the same issue as the OP reported above.

We are using version 26.5.1 (premiere)

The issue is with the arrow keys

When using the arrow keys the values you type are not kept when you leave the clip.

When values are typed manually (on keyboard) they are saved.

Hope you can resolve this issue quickly.

When creating a scale in effect on a video clip the the first keyframe with the starting value works. The second keyframe with a different value either disappears when moving the playhead or the adjusted scale value is reseted to the base value. No Animation can be created. Same for position keyframes. When the second keyframes stays and only resets its value adjusting the value again after playback sometimes helps to save the adjusted scale value.

I merged your post here as it appears to be the same issue as this thread. We will update as soon as the patch is released but for now it’s suggested to use the Properties Panel to adjust, ECP sliders, manually enter numbers in the ECP or downgrade to 26.3.2 as a temporary workaround while we fix the issue.

Yeah, I’m also experiencing this with the latest Premiere version.

I’m almost exclusively using arrow keys when changing values, and as soon as I switch away from a clip none of my changes are retained. Doesn’t matter if it’s position, Lumetri or the drop shadow effect.
Another workaround I’ve found is to stay on the clip, copy the effect, then paste it back right onto the clip. Obviously if it’s an effect then you need to delete the old one or you have duplicates. However for the time being it helps that I don’t have to adjust my muscle memory when editing. Just need to copy/paste the effect at the end. Easy enough to do with position and the like which are inherent to any clip.

Windows 11 here, so I suppose it affects all platforms.

Sidenote: I’ve had this issue for years, but it was random and I never got around to filing a report. I hope now that it’s happening for a lot of people this can be fixed once and for all.

Yeah, I usually use the up and down arrows for position changes, but I found an even better fix: I just downgraded to Premiere Pro version 26.3, so it's sorted for now.

Thanks for stopping by the Premiere forums. Could we get a bit more details on your issue with changing positions resetting? There is a recent issue discovered we filed on recently where, if you are using the up/down arrows to adjust say the position, it ends up resetting. Wondering if that’s what is happening here? As a workaround for now, try click dragging sliders or entering a numerical value.

Otherwise, can you provide more details like if Mac (and what macOS) or PC (whether Windows 11/10, plus what driver version & build), what version & build of Premiere are you using, how’s your media stored (NAS/External) with our bug report details.

Additional helpful questions:
1) Does it affect all projects or only some? What about new, empty projects?
2) Do you recall which Premiere version this was last working in, and what might have changed? Any plugins, update to computer or drivers, etc. when the problem first began.

A short screen recording showing us exactly what is happening could be most helpful. You might be able to attach it here on a reply or on a link, or we could even send a dropbox upload link if too big. Let us know.

I thought it was just my computer at home, but even my work computer is experiencing the same issues. Premiere keeps redoing changes I make to my footage with the Effects Controls panel; scale and cropping changes revert back to the previous percentage.

Hello @christian_2418, I have merged your post. This bug is actively being worked on. I don’t have a definitive answer on when this fix will be released into a public version, but the current workaround is to use the Properties panel or revert back to 26.3.2

For bug reporting purposes it can still help us to know a little about your system. I’m assuming you are on Premiere 26.5 but please correct me if I am wrong.

Operating System: Specify Windows or macOS, along with the version.
Chip (Mac Only): M series chip or CPU / GPU combo.
GPU and Driver (Windows only): Please let us know your video card and driver version. We recommend updating to the most recent version; for NVIDIA users, we strongly recommend the Studio version of the driver.
