P: Premiere Pro - Type Tool and Captions

Hi guys,

I'm having trouble with using the Type Tool and the Captions within the Text Panel.

This has happened in the past couple of days or at least, it's when I have noticed.

When the Type Tool is selected and when I click in the Programm Panel, like usually to type text nothing happens.

A red line now appears at the top and across the said panel. I am still able to drag a box but nothing happens after that.

Likewise with the Text panel and the captions. When I create a new caption track, and create a caption, I am able to create it and type in it, but nothing appears.

I've tried uninstalling the 25.1 version and re-installling - Nothing.

I've tried installing the 25.0 version and the same problem - Nothing.

I've tried creating a new project and opening an older project - Nothing.

Lastly, I have also tried turning my Mac off and turning back on - Nothing.

In the 24.6.4 version, it works but ideally I'd like to be using the most updated version.

I would appreacite any help, screengrab provided.

Cheers

Felipe

@Denise32307055d6qb, that's wild. I wonder if this would have happened with any font. Did you only have issues with that font or with any font? I had been able to repro text not showing up intermittently for single fonts, but they had always recovered after quitting the app.

@ireneyadao That's super interesting, I wonder if it's Adobe Fonts synced to one account and not the other as per @Denise32307055d6qb's post. Could you try the following:

  1. On your personal account that text is not showing:
  2. Please go to Creative Cloud desktop app, select the fancy f at the top right.
  3. Select all of the turndowns to close them up.
  4. Please take screenshots of all of the fonts you have synced so we have a list of what's going on (sorry, this might take a while if you have many synced!)
  5. Unsync all of your fonts (the meatball/three dot menu at the top right, Remove all fonts)
  6. Close Premiere Pro if it was open
  7. Wait a few minutes, reopen Premiere Pro
  8. Type some text and see if it works again
  9. If the text works again, please post the screenshots of your Adobe Fonts.

Thanks! I'm hopeful we're getting closer to what's causing this issue!

Hi! I might not be able to get to this for a bit but do you mean screenshots of Added Fonts or Installed Fonts? FWIW, I have this issue even if I’m creating text with font that’s a default already (not a new one added). I’ll try to post screenshots within the next couple of hours. Thank you!

@Annika Koenig @BPI Editor Interesting, I've ony tried to upgrade, not downgrade. I'll have to try that. But I will say the funny thing is that, signed into my Premiere Pro personal account, texts and MOGRTs and GFX don't work. But signed into my Premiere Pro work account, with the same Premiere Pro 25, texts do show up. So not sure what the difference would be there.

@ajmills01 Have you found a solution to this issue? I’m experiencing the exact same problem! But for me, downgrading Premiere to v24.6 worked just fine.

UPDATED REPLY.
@Dani_V. @Annika Koenig @Theresa Rostek @Sumeet Kumar Choubey @Rach McIntire

I do use an external monitor, but I don’t think that’s the issue—even on the laptop screen, the text doesn’t show. Now that you mention OS, I realize I started experiencing this issue after updating to macOS Sequoia version 15.3.2. Do you have any idea what might be going on?

I’ve already tried opening my sequence in the Source Monitor, but the captions still don’t appear. If I open sequence "in Timeline" as usual, yes, I’m able to change the font or style for any selected captions under the Properties and Text panel. But if I open sequence "in Source Monitor" then timeline, I can’t make any changes.

I hope you can resolve this issue soon, as caption or text graphics are a important part of my project. For now, I’ve downgraded my Premiere to 2024 version, since everything works well in this version.

Excuse the late response!
For me the problem somehow got fixed when I removed and then added again the font Myriad Pro Regular. The text first disappeared when I tried changing captions to this font. It happened on two different Macs even. But after removing and adding the font again and NOT making it available for other apps on my Mac like the third time, the text suddenly came back...

I have no idea how this suddenly 'fixed' it again after a couple of frustrating days. But maybe the info can help to get a grip on this issue.

@Annika Koenig I can make some time to test things out with you! This issue is a huge problem and I'd love to get it solved. Thank you.
