P: Premiere Pro - Type Tool and Captions

Hi guys,

I'm having trouble with using the Type Tool and the Captions within the Text Panel.

This has happened in the past couple of days or at least, it's when I have noticed.

When the Type Tool is selected and when I click in the Programm Panel, like usually to type text nothing happens.

A red line now appears at the top and across the said panel. I am still able to drag a box but nothing happens after that.

Likewise with the Text panel and the captions. When I create a new caption track, and create a caption, I am able to create it and type in it, but nothing appears.

I've tried uninstalling the 25.1 version and re-installling - Nothing.

I've tried installing the 25.0 version and the same problem - Nothing.

I've tried creating a new project and opening an older project - Nothing.

Lastly, I have also tried turning my Mac off and turning back on - Nothing.

In the 24.6.4 version, it works but ideally I'd like to be using the most updated version.

I would appreacite any help, screengrab provided.

Cheers

Felipe

I recently tried just trying everything I can think of and found a weird fix...

Put your text on an adjustment layer, then put a lens flare effect on the text layer. For some reason, this got it to show up...

Hi! Does anyone know how to solve this problem? The text stopped displaying, I tried reinstalling the program, rolling back to older versions, resetting the cache. Literally yesterday everything worked. Nothing helped. MacBook 14pro M3pro 18gb

Hi everyone,

If you're able to upgrade, could you please try Premiere Pro 25.2.0 and let us know if the issue resolves or persists for you?

Also if you haven't already, please share what Premiere Pro version and build you're experiencing the issue in and what OS and version you're on. It's also helpful to know if anything happened beforehand (did your OS update, roll back a driver, etc) and if you're using any 3rd party plugins.

Thanks!
Theresa

Here is a copy of the project file I'm working with! Thanks for taking a look at it.

Hi thanks for your reply. Surely the video is enough, the issue seems to be accross the board.

I'm on a shoot all week so I don't have the time but as others have said, we pay a lot of money a month so I would rather Adobe's team does their own bug report off this thread and figure this out.

Hello all!

Recently, I've been unable to view any text I add to my timelines. This goes for any project and seemingly happened overnight. I've been unable to figure it out as I've looked at everything I can think of to layer visibility, text size, font type, font color, clip size, etc.

I've included a pic of my timeline and can do any more if anyone is able to help?

Additional notes:

Premiere Version 25.1

M1 Macbook Pro 15.3.2

I have tried resetting preferrences, downgrading Premiere (v24.6), and fresh reinstalling.

The only thing I haven't tried that I can think of is downgrading my OS.

Since this text shows up on other macs and windows machines, I know it's something with the computer or my settings. This occurs in every single project, even past projects that haven't been opened in weeks.

Hi everyone,

I'm having this issue with the Text Tool where it doesn't appear on screen. Instead, a big red line appears at the top of the monitor. I can edit within the graphics tab but it doesn't show anything. Very frustrating.

I deleted all my caches, restarted, reinstalled. To no avail!

Please help me. I desperately need to fix this.

I’ve been using Premiere Pro V25.1 since the beginning of this year. Everything was running smoothly until I encountered this incredibly frustrating bug. As you can see in the screenshot, I have an active caption track — the text appears in the Text Panel and also shows up in the Timeline. But it doesn’t appear in the Program Monitor. Even simple text graphic layers don’t show up. I’ve tried rendering the video with ‘Burn Captions Into Video,’ but no text appears in the exported file.

I’ve already tried deleting the cache, uninstalling and reinstalling Premiere, and resetting preferences — nothing works. I even tried creating a new project, importing new footage, and creating a new caption directly in Premiere — still no luck.

The most frustrating part is that when I open the same project file on a different laptop, everything works fine — the caption text appears in the Program Monitor. So I’m assume there’s something wrong with my laptop’s configuration, but I have no idea what it is.

I’m completely stuck and running out of options. Please help! Thank you.

Hi @BPI Editor,

Thanks for submitting your bug report.  How were the captions generated originally?  Can you give more details about your system settings?  We need a few more details to try to help with the issue. Please see: How do I write a bug report?  Sorry for the frustration and thanks for reaching out.

Hello,
I got disconected from the creative cloud because I had too many devices connected to it.
It changed my password and then I had to remove a device to keep working.

After that, I opened my Premiere Pro project and all my texts are gone.

And using the text tool is not working. I can't type anything, it's just a big red box. Even on a new project.

I also noticed that After Effects wont open and I get an error message.
Same on PS and AI, I can't use the type tool.

What I've already tried:

- Restarting the software

- Restarting the computer

- Uninstalling the software and deleting preferences

Please help me fast, I cannot work anymore because of a bug.

@Erika31947747bj0s,

What version of PR are you using? What OS?

Your graphics driver can create this issue. What graphics card are you using?
