P: Unable to freely move clips and audio around on my timeline. Glitch, bug or setting?

If anyone is able to wave a magic wand and help me fix this issue then I would be so very grateful!

I am using Premier pro 25.1 on a windows PC, I opened up my project the other day to start work and I was unable to freely click on a clip and drag the clip about on the timeline with the same thing happening with audio. When I do click on a clip to move or drag it I am presented with the picture I have attached, in my program window.

I have tried everything on nearly every forum page I can find, reset all settings from splash, cleared cache, uninstalled and reinstalled softwear, new project, everything I can think of but I can't find anything anyway with someone with this same fault.

Thank you if anyone can save me!

I've been using Premier Pro for years without this issue but suddenly I'm unable to drag anything at all within the system. I've tried resetting preferences, restarting the program, and I've trawled Reddit for an answer but no luck.

I'm able to drag items when I move the window over to my laptop monitor but suddenly can't drag anything at all when the window is open on my second monitor regardless if the window is full size.

Is there some hidden setting somewhere that would prevent things from dragging when the window is on a second monitor?

HI all,

reasonably experienced hack user of several years here.

I updated to the latest version (PP25.1) and now find that when I create a new project I cannot drag and drop my media from the project (or sequence) windows into a timeline.

I can select the file but when I try to drag it over to the timeline window my mouse turns into a red circle with a line through it - as though I am trying to do something prohibited.

Steps I have already taken to address:

1 - I deleted the original project and started againa from scratch

2 - I erased my media cache

3 - I restarted again

4 - I searched for a solution on google and youtube for hours - but everyone keepsa saying to toggle the v1/a1 switches but I don't have any switches to toggle - there needs to be a sequence for there to be any v1/a1 switches.

5 - I've checked my settings but there is nothing unusual or odd about anything.

6 - my source media files are not corrupt and are working fine when played back in the source window (as well as when played back using other mediums such as MS Video player).

Suggestions and help would be appreciated.

But please keep it simple - video editing is not my day job.

Version: 25.1
Windows 11

The usual response to this issue is turn on source patching, however it's already enabled. The weird thing is that this issue is now across all versions of Premiere Pro, no matter the project.

I have:
- Resetted app preferences and cache

- Downloaded the latest graphics drivers

- Restarted my PC

- Turned off/on source patching

- Tried older versions of Premiere

- New sequences, projects, everything

Feel like I'm missing something super obvious, but the fact that it's across all versions of Premiere makes me think it's not a Premiere issue?

Try setting the audio track display to 'clip' keyframes rather than 'track' keyframes.

Hello community,

I have a problem with the selection tool:

if I'll drag a clip, it moves it to an other track (the trackselection, blue V, makes no difference) and a random place.

if I'll drag a adjustment layer it makes the same, but also copy the clip and leaves the original untouched.

video attached shows some of the problems

Can you help me?

If using dual monitors, this may be related to a bug being addressed.

Try using one monitor and see if it works OK.

If that doesn't work, try resetting the preferences:
https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro/faq-how-to-reset-trash-preferences-in-premiere-pro/td-p/8236158?page=1

If that doesn’t work, try updating or rolling back your graphics driver directly from the video card manufacturer’s site. If NVIDIA, do a clean installation of the latest Studio Driver (NOT the Game Driver).

If that doesn't work, try creating a new project and import the old one into it.

Thank you , Bob.

In the meantime I figured out that it's only on the second monitor, and only in the timeline. If I pull the window from the monitor to my laptop, I can work as usual. That's probably the weirdest bug I've ever seen. I chatted with the Adobe Support, they said I should try an older version. But that did not resolve the issue. Resetting the preferences did also nothing. I guess I have to live with that. Maybe the NVIDIA driver helps. I try

While I haven't found a "fix", I did stumble across a work-around. I'm assuming you're working on 2 monitors and the extension monitor is where your workspace is?

In Display Settings on your computer, set the second monitor as the primary display and keep working on the second monitor. For some reason, having the second monitor as a secondary display throws off where the cursor picks up things in the workspace.

Hi there, many of us have encountered the same issue. The problem is a bug and Adobe is working on it. It seems that everyone who has this issue is working with a multi-monitor setup, and if you disconnect all but one display, it works again. I know this is really inconvenient but it's the only workaround I have found so far that enables me to continue using Pr until Adobe gets it fixed. Hope this is helpful!
