P: Unable to freely move clips and audio around on my timeline. Glitch, bug or setting?

If anyone is able to wave a magic wand and help me fix this issue then I would be so very grateful!

I am using Premier pro 25.1 on a windows PC, I opened up my project the other day to start work and I was unable to freely click on a clip and drag the clip about on the timeline with the same thing happening with audio. When I do click on a clip to move or drag it I am presented with the picture I have attached, in my program window.

I have tried everything on nearly every forum page I can find, reset all settings from splash, cleared cache, uninstalled and reinstalled softwear, new project, everything I can think of but I can't find anything anyway with someone with this same fault.

Thank you if anyone can save me!

If you have dual monitors, try setting both monitor resolutions the same.

If that doesn't work, see if it works using only one monitor.

There is a bug with dual monitors that is being addressed.

Typically you are able to click and drag any of your media files into whatever bin you have created. I have found recently that this is no longer the case IF you have two monitors and work in LIST MODE.

I have tried this with newer installs, and even older installs seem to have this bug now present.

If you are unable to drag within bins:
- Change your layout to "all panels" OR make sure all your editing panels are on your main screen.

You should be able to drag and drop within bins. Try putting project media window on your second monitor and this seems to break it.

Adobe - Please fix this. This is a repro rate of 100% for me.

SOLVED (kinda)

So it turns out it's related to a Windows 11 update. The workaround is making sure both of your monitors have the same SCALING. They just have to match, doesn't matter if its 100%, 125%,150% --- they just need to match.

Hello Kevin, I'm just following up on this topic. I am still unable to use Premiere Pro without disconnecting all external displays from my laptop - very inconvenient, as you can imagine. Uninstalling numerous Windows 11 updates has not resolved the issue. Please share this with the Pr development team. Thank you for your assistance!

I got the same problem, starting february 2025, I found a way around it but I rather they fix it soon because it's very cumbersome. I noticed that the clips/audion dragging are blocked from my 2nd screen (Cintiq) , when I drag the Adobe Premier app to the 1st screen (laptop) it works. It would be better if I could use my 2nd screen instead, hoping adobe can fix this bug soon so I can work faster on my projects.

Do everything in this link and it will work. I hope Microsoft is aware and fixes this problem.

Hi, I'm having this same issue that started today it seems. Literally cannot drag anything from anywhere to anywhere. Can't create a new timeline, can't cut and paste to a new one to see if it works. App is completely bugged out and useless right now. Kind of super infuriating. Glad I'm not alone!

After a few minutes of use, video clips in the timeline become frozen and cannot be moved to different positions or tracks. Additionally, it is not possible to add new video clips to the timeline. This issue occurs even with sample media files provided by Premiere Pro.

Muchisimas gracias a todos, efectivamente el problema es con el segundo monitor.

Premiere Pro 2025, I can't edit on the timeline. It doesn't let me drag and drop effects. In 2024 it was easy to do.
