Premiere Pro 26.2 UI lag and freezing, resolved by reverting to 26.0.1

Premiere Pro 26.2.0 (Build 65) has severe UI performance issues.

- UI becomes very slow even in a new project
- Changing font size causes noticeable lag or temporary freezing
- Menu operations are also slow and unresponsive
- Timeline playback itself is relatively smooth
- GPU acceleration (CUDA) is enabled and working correctly
- Media cache was cleared, but the issue persisted
- The issue occurs across multiple projects, including ones that previously worked fine

After reverting to Premiere Pro 26.0.1, all issues were resolved.

This strongly suggests a regression in UI or graphics-related performance introduced in version 26.2.

Premiere Pro 26.0.1に戻したところ、すべての問題が解消しました。

26.2でUIまたはグラフィック処理に関するパフォーマンス低下が発生している可能性があります。

I got the same problem again yesterday while doing training at a training facility. Every time it has happened has been outside my home office. I connected to a TV via HDMI, mirroring my laptop screen, as I always do.

In my home office I use a Dell Ultrawide, without the laptop screen, and I connect via Thunderbolt.

Here’s a link to a memory dump that I took while the problem was showing:

I really hope you can find a fix very soon, as this bug makes Premiere look like a very buggy piece of software. It’s embarrassing to have this happen with a room full of people who are new to Premiere. Their first impression is NOT good.

To be clear: The problem has NOT occurred at my Home office - only when connecting to TV screens via HDMI (mirroring the laptop screen) outside of my office.

Thanks for the reply.  After finding this message board I saw that others were having success with rolling back.  I was skeptical since I felt like I tried everything else,  but... it worked!

It sounds like I am in the right place for the issue I am dealing with. I’ve been using Premiere on this computer for a couple years without ever having this issue. I’m assuming an update came through recently. For about 2-3 weeks I deal with constant freezing or “not responding”, especially when I click on any of the menu tabs at the top. If I wait a few minutes it eventually comes back, but were talking taking hours to do 10 minutes of work.  I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Premiere, without luck. My graphics drivers are up to date. I’m truly at a loss and this is greatly hindering projects I’m working on.

Have you tried rolling back a version through the Creative Cloud app? I’ve had success with 26.0.2.

Hi there, I’m having the same issue on my work laptop, especially when I’m trying to access the top menu, with the app constantly freezing or lagging severely. I had my performance restored as soon as I rolled it back to 26.0.01.

My work Dell laptop specs are:

12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-12700H (2.30 GHz)
32.0 GB RAM
Geforce RTX 3050 Ti Laptop GPU (Studio Driver 595.79)

I’ve just tried downloading the 26.2.2 Premiere update and am frustrated to see this issue hasn’t been addressed yet. I’ll be rolling back Premiere again so I have functionality restored.

I too am having this problem with 26.2.0. This is on a Mac Studio M2 Ultra with macOS Tahoe 26.4.1 (latest version). Not a problem before the 26.2.0 update. One additional thing I noticed is if I’m also listening to an audio source other than Premiere, saying listening to music with the Music app. Just before Premiere’s playback, that other source cuts out for 1-2 seconds, then when Premiere actually starts to play, the other audio source comes back as well. Not sure if this is an audio-related issue, or it's just hanging the entire system. But whatever it is, I can confirm this is not related to just Windows.

Hi @一樹33758267b1gq @BradCooper20 @Avel384682290ts6 - Would you try installing Premiere beta version 26.3.0 build 51 or later and let us know if that helps your issue.

I’m also coming across serious issues with 26.2. I don’t have the greatest performance specs but since the update I have seen a significant downturn in performance.

I tried to move the position of text in the properties panel and my PremPro kept freezing for minutes at a time, same thing happened when I clicked on the colour box to simply change the colour of the text.

Currently trying to install 26.0.2 (or 26.0.1), both versions get stuck at 54% download when trying to revert back to the old version.

I have tried numerous times and even force closed Creative Cloud and nothing is working.

Looks like my clients projects might be delayed 😳

Update, able to roll back (finally) to 26.0.1, but won’t be going back to 26.2 until there are further updates.

Glad to hear you were able to roll back and get things working again.

Same here — I’m also sticking with 26.0.1 for now until a more stable update comes out.

I have similar issue after the update. Opening the Sequence Settings now takes nearly 5 minutes. My computer has 64Gb memory, Nivida Quadro RTX 5000 with 16Gb. I’ve the following Logitech plugins installed: LogiPremierPro and the extensions: Film Impact Dashboard, Logi Options+ and LogiOptions Version 10.26.4.0

Thanks for sharing your details.

I was experiencing very similar behavior after the update, including severe UI slowdowns (for example, simple actions like adjusting shapes or opening menus would take several seconds or temporarily freeze).

In my case, rolling back Premiere Pro from version 26.2 to 26.0.1 resolved the issue almost completely, and performance returned to normal.

Given your hardware (which is more than sufficient), it’s very likely not a performance limitation but rather an issue introduced in the newer version.

You might want to try downgrading via Creative Cloud to see if it improves your situation.

Hope this helps.

Hi @一樹33758267b1gq @Avel384682290ts6 -   Thanks for submitting your bug report. We need a few more details to try to help with the issue.  Please see, How to Report a Problem?

Can you let us know your system specs from the link above?

Do you have any third party panels or plugins installed?

Do you have any logitech software installed?

Thanks for your response.

In my case, I am not using any third-party panels or plugins, and I do not have any Logitech software installed.

The issue started after updating to version 26.2, and rolling back to 26.0.1 resolved the problem.

Given this, it does not seem to be related to plugins or system configuration, but rather something introduced in the newer version.

System specifications:

  • OS: Windows 11 Home (Version 25H2, Build 26200.8246)

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3800XT (8 cores, 3.89 GHz)

  • RAM: 32 GB (3200 MT/s)

  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER (8 GB)

  • Storage: SSD (approx. 2.29 TB total)

Premiere Pro version:

  • 26.2 (issue occurs)

  • 26.0.1 (works correctly)

Hope this helps with your investigation.
