Feature Requests

These are sort of two different requests but they overlap. First, for ballpark skin tone balancing, that CMYK value. RGB is useless as I think everyone knows. C/Y/M values are pretty good ballpark ways to assess whether a light-medium skin tone is realistic. For over a decade I've wondered why isn't there a CMYK option for the current RGB value displayed in the histogram area. Yes, I realize that CMYK conversion is not uniquely defined and there are color space mapping issues, but for the purpose of comparing relative values of C/Y/M, not a problem. I'm not asking for Lightroom to run in CMYK, just to do conversions one pixel or patch at a time to display a value. Then given that, the next possibility is using a skin tone to define a white balance. So the WB dropper gets a "skin tone" checkbox (maybe with light/medium/asian/dark toggles) and you could get a ballpark WB from a skin tone dropper without having to obsess over whether it's one of those days where you will edit ev

Object masks should be computed on the cropped image, not the original image.  Adobe went through a similar learning process with Auto Tone, finally acknowledging that it should be computed on the cropped image: https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-ideas/lightroom-auto-tone-analysis-should-apply-post-crop-scanned-photos-a-problem/idi-p/12249250   (But maybe this time it can be corrected in less than five years.)   Here's a use case (original image attached).  The original, auto-straightened and cropped image:   Dragging a rectangular Object-mask selection (faintly visible) around the original Polaroid image:   results in a bad mask:   Apparently, the AI algorithm gives more weight to the higher-contrast outer border edges in the cropped-out area of the photo than to the inner border edges within the crop.   Exporting the cropped photo and then making the same rectangular Object-mask selection gives perfect results:

Occasionally I wind up with large numbers of duplicate images due to importing something multiple times over a period of months or years. Literally, importing the exact same images, but for whatever reason, import doesn't notice that they're duplicates. File name changed, date changed, I don't know. When I wind up with "-4" filenames for 5 copies of the same image, I feel like something isn't working right.   I really want to be able to find images that are certainly duplicates and that are almost certainly duplicates, and do something with them.   Certainly duplicates means the same bits in the image. Lightroom does not work this way however. I'm not sure exactly what way it works.   Almost certainly duplicates or just "very similar" means: Very strong likelihood JPEG/raw match (e.g. if same filename and feature-similar image, some metadata matches, etc etc) Same for TIF/PSD/JPEG/raw etc etc Same photo resized, reoriented Same photo cropped a little Same photo with wat

I've scanned thousands of Instax, Polaroid (old and new), etc., and the most painful part of the process is taking the raw scan (which includes a significant border around the print) and cropping/rotating to select only the image, or alternately the outline of the physical print. There has to be a way to make this less painful. Here's a scenario of how it could work:New crooked scan of Instax photo with lots of border slopEnter rotate moduleProposed horizontal and vertical alignments, based on obvious straight features (edge of photo, edge of image) are discovered and displayed as dotted lines overlaid on imageClicking one line will rotate image to matchClicking more lines will define crop areaShould the in/out of the crop area be confused, clicking on the "other side" of the line, or something like that, will flip itA slight border is often desirable (to show the edge of the print for example) so a control to tweak the placement of crop relative to the found edge is needed;

A use case I have reasonably frequently is a scan of the entire surface of an Instax or Polaroid, including the edges beyond the image. Often I will want to make tweaks to the colors and curves etc of the image, apply a gradient, etc etc. That's all fine as long as the border stays reasonably and uniformly white, but if it takes on a cast, especially a varying cast, that's not so fine. What I'd like to be able to do is have a mask created for me that includes just the image area, so that I can adjust the image separately from the border area. It seems like this is a common enough use case that there could be an "image area" mask option that detects something that looks like an image surrounded by a relatively uniform color border. Then I could go to town overlaying gradients, brushes, etc., without having to worry about messing up the nice white border. Otherwise I have to use brushes and hope auto-mask works, which it doesn't when the image is white AND the border is wh

I've got hundreds of keywords that LR has saved in the keywording list. I've had a chat with your support and found out there is no button to clear the whole list in one click. I have to go through hundreds of keywords and delete them one by one.   Introducing a button that allows to clear up the whole list would be helpful.  

*DESPERATELY* needs layouts with gutter. Or at the least a much, much easier way to create asymmetric layouts. I've spent hours and hours just getting a small number of them right. You would think there would be an easy way to take a symmetrical margin layout and add gutter to the left or right, depending, but, nerp. So, so infuriating. It's confusing as h e double hockey sticks to work with books as though they were collections. Why aren't they just collections? Drag photos that you want in. Select another book. Drag photos that you want in. Go back to the first book. Drag more photos in, drag some out. WHY IS THIS HARD? Why am I glued to collections of photos that I didn't ask for? Why is this so counter-intuitive and broken? Idek what a "saved book" is. It's incredibly poorly defined. What does saving a book do for me and why should I? Could Lightroom automatically store a has_been_printed boolean field, and maybe a printed_date field?

It would be massively helpful if you could use "Clipboard Contents" as a naming convention when renaming images while shooting tethered. It's such a simple thing, but it would allow photographers who shoot tethered in LR to rename the files from a spreadsheet with the subjects name on it. When delivering files to a client, it is insanely useful to be able to give them the files renamed with the name of the person in the image.    Both Capture 1 and Tether Tools Smart Shooter offer this at the moment, but adding this simple feature to Lightroom would very much increase the usefulness of the tethering feature to photographers who shoot tethered often. I would really appreciate it if letters instead of numbers were offered for the file extension when exporting. Would help me a lot.

Lightroom 12.0.1   The new AI-powered masking features include the ability to detect faces in photos. This works much, much better than the face detection system that's used for organization. It would be amazing if the face detection system for organization was updated to use the new AI face detection system.   Very often, Lightroom Classic will fail to find faces in photos, even if they're pretty obvious, but particularly in profile view or when the lighting is odd. However, in most cases I've checked, the new masking feature has no touble finding the face.   I make extensive use of face-based organization of my photos, and I would _love_ to no longer have to manually tag all the photos that clearly Lightroom is capable of detecting faces in!

The way the Preset Amount slider currently works is that I select one of my presets and select amount of that preset to be applied. This changes the scalable values on the right side (Basic, Tone Curve and so on). However, when I make the changes to that preset (which happens a lot as I copy between images and I need to either adjust WB, hue or saturation of certain colors, etc.) the Preset Amount slider greyes out. I would have to save the adjusted preset as a new preset and apply the amount again which is time consuming when I need to edit hundreds of photos.   The idea here is that Preset Amount slider would not be disabled after changes are being made to preset. It should stay enabled all the time so scalable values can be adjusted on the fly or there should be new slider introduced for the right side edits only (something like Overal Adjustments Amount or something similar).

Lightroom currently has the possibility to search for missing photos, which is a very important function. Unfortunately this does not warn about the case where some photos are still present, but corrupted. Given the large amount of data stored on most computers, and the long storage time, this corruption is bound to happen sooner or later (such examples show up regularly on forums). The user therefore needs to be warned as early as possible so that corrective action can be taken (e.g. retrieve from backup) before it’s too late. Proposition: implement an automatic photo integrity check. One way of implementing this would be to calculate the checksum of photos on import for all file types (I understand this is already done for DNG s). The verification against checksum could be done either during the regular catalogue optimisation, or at the user’s demand in a way similar to the command ‘Library’>’Find Missing Photos’. Please provide a way of creating a Lightroom Classic smart collection from Library Filter settings. I know I can manually create a smart collection that mimics my Library Filter settings, but I'd appreciate Lightroom creating the smart collection after I'm done fiddling with the filter settings.

Please add access to the Plug-in Extras menu via the right-click menu. It's inconvenient to have to remember that for some external apps, I have to remember to use the Library menu or File menu to access Plug-in Extras.

I have been using Sony PVM-A250 for my video feed for years. This is my secondary monitor and the feed is sent to it by using Blackmagic Design Intensity Pro 4K. This skips all the OS traps and gives me a perfect color reproduction.Now, when I use Lightroom, it would be great the app can utilize this card and send photo preview or what is called Secondary Monitor in LR while I keep using the UI interace on my main monitor. The critical color checking could be done through that card.Any chance by Adobe to start supporting it?  I know Premiere supports it so I don't see a reason this couldn't be ported to Lightroom and Photoshop.Thanks and cheers!!!

Adobe allows users to change the sky in LR classic. Now that we can select a background mask would you be able to develop a process to replace the background in the same way?

Hi,  I will describe the situation. Every year I have a lot of portrait photos of students. For one application I need square photos. For another application I need rectangular photos. I use the crop overlay for that. I am looking for a way to change the aspect ratio (in this case from 1x1 to custom 3.4x4.5) without having to manually resize and reposition the crop area. I imagine that once having a square crop, I can make virtual copies and change the aspect ratio in the copies. While choosing the new aspect ratio, I should be able to select also which direction (horizontal or vertical) should be kept. When selecting horizontal, only the vertical size of the crop area should be changed to meet the new aspect ratio. The left and right border remain in place. Again while choosing the new aspect ratio I should also be able to select the direction in which the change should be applied. In my example, I should be able to select top, bottom or both. A bit like resize canvas in Photosho

Since upgrading my camera gear for getting more into nature photography, I find myself more and more turning to high-resolution 4k video to capture speedy/elusive subjects that simply won't stay still for a good photo shot (especially with macro or superzoom shooting). As the quality and resolution of camera video has quickly risen, I suspect many others are doing frequent frame grabs for photo work, or will be doing so in the years ahead.   It's great that I can easily capture frames from a video with LR's existing movie playing controls, but they're pretty basic. I find that the lack of good scrubbing controls to be very frustrating. Most of the time, I have to plop the video into Premiere to use the much easier keyboard navigation tools there.   Do you use grabbed video frames more now? Would you like to see better video scrubbing controls in LR? I'm talking about a Premier-like timeline drag with good keyboard shortcut controls. What do YOU think?

With the new masking tool in 11.0, it's great that it identifies multiple subjects and masks all of them. Total game changer. But sometimes you only want one subject among many in a frame to be masked. It would be cool if there was some way to remove subjects from a mask that is quicker than the brush erase tool. Clearly, Lightroom can distinguish individual forms as subjects. But right now, it just lumps every form subject into one mask and pin, unless I'm missing something. So what if each subject form had it's own pin within the subject mask? That way, you could just select the pin for a given subject form and hit delete if you didn't want it masked.   Another work around would be if you could pre-identify which form in the frame you wanted masked. Maybe there could be a cursor tool in the subject mask panel. You select the cursor tool in the subject mask panel and move the cursor to the subject that you want masked and click it. Then only that subject would be masked. You coul

It would be great if one could predefine whether the "Add" or Move" option is checked by default in the import dialogue.   Now there is a risk that you move files when you import when you just meant to add them to the Lightroom catalogue.   This becomes a problem if you have already set up a folder structure for the images in another program and you just want to add them to the Lightroom catalogue, but if you don´t happen to notice the "Move" option is selected then Lightroom will move the images and destroy the original folder structure.

Hi!   I need to indicate the number of person(s) appearing on every picture of a (rather big ) set og photographs.  I do not need to identify them, juste count.  Since the IA can identify people, I suppose it can determine how many of them are visible on a picture? This would greatly help the classification and tagging of my pictures, since this informatiion is an important search criteria.   Thank you
