BETA Add speaker names and 2 lines option to captions from transcription

I really like what you all have done outside of the box and testing on day one. My two suggestions come from the options I have and use with otter.ai which is our current way to auto generate captions that I then clean up. 1. I didn’t see an option how to add speakers to the closed captioning from the transcript. I can do it on the transcript side but then making that into cc names were not included. 2. Give the option of the closed captioning to be 2 lines instead of one easily. I know I can go in there and combine and do return to make them two lines but with otter I can tell it make them to lines and it does without any additional work or time involved. This looks very promising thus far but the two above are what I need at my job to do the entire captioning process in Premiere. Thank you for listening.

In the mean time it would be nice if Premiere warned you that labeling all of your speakers in your transcript is a waste of time, lol.

This is still the "add speaker to caption" feature request with the most upvotes. See my previous update for a list of others.

I believe that an essential element was allowing multiple caption tracks to be active. That function is now in Beta. The "opportunity" was translation of captions. Using it to differentiate speakers involves other issues related to getting speaker information from the transcript to captions and how to process it.

The staff Beta announcement regarding translation of captions that includes the multiple captions tracks is here:

My observations in that thread are here:

In responding to a new request for speaker names in captions, I decided to post this update. I am posting here, because this is the Idea with the most upvotes. It started in UserVoice and was ported here Jan 24, 2023.

Captioning continues to be a very busy area for staff, who are continually improving captioning and adding important features. "Upgrade from caption to graphic" and Text-based editing are two of the biggest changes, but there are many improvements that get less attention.

Not long after the new caption workflow was introduced in PR 2021, I asked in the Beta forum what the longer-term plan was with Speaker names. It seemed apparent to me that a) there would be an option to put the speaker name as a label on the captions created from the transcription and b) that styling would provide a method for differentiating speakers on screen. This can become complicated if you provide for differentiating speakers by screen positioning, etc.

I did not see a status on any of these requests, and no staff response.

I'd like to drop my Speedscriber subscription and use the captioning inside Premiere Pro, but without the speaker names in the closed captions, I can't do that.

Like seriously...? Why have the option for multiple speakers if we can't use it in the captions...?!?

This would be a GREAT option...especially for interviews to identify who is speaking when it is for, say like a podcast.

I work for a government entity. We produce many videos with multiple speakers. In being compliant with accessibility we certainly need to be able to identify different speakers in our closed caption files. Hope this feature is added cause it is needed...like yesterday.

I have many videos that have off-camera speakers. It's such a shame that we have to identify them manually, even after Abode went to the effort of auto-identifying the speakers in the transcription! Please update this! It's really important to remove as much friction as possible in making accessible videos.

An interim fix would be to auto color the different speaker.
Speaker 1= White Font
Speaket 2= Grey Font
etc.

I have been doing this manually and it is extremely annoying, but still the easiest option I have found.
