FrameMaker

When I double-click the executable, FrameMaker 8 doesn't open. The exe shows in Task Manager as a Background Process. No errors during the install. This works on a separate laptop running Windows 10, but not my new one that is running Windows 10. Any suggestions?Thanks.

About a year ago when I started using FrameMaker I created an "Image Table" that was 1 Column and 1 Row to insert illustrations in line with a document. When I set it up I set it to have a table title below the table and that served as a caption box the title is automatically populated with Figure: <$chapnum>-<figure number> i.e. Figure: 1-1. Well, we updated the numbering for the figures and I created a new paragraph style with the new formula but can't remember for the life of me figure out how to insert the table with the title # already in the title box. Any tips for this so I don't have to go through 133 images and change each one manually and I can just update the style and have them re-number automatically?

Greetings,My ToC does not reflect my book. The titles are correctly ordered and appear at the appropriate level.The layout is correct. I removed the word Chapter from the title.0 paragraph format and I added a numbering scheme to the title.1 paragraph format (to match the model used in my document).I edited ditafm-output.ini to look like this:I can get the layout I'm looking for, but I have two problems.First, my title.0 entries go from 1, 2, 3 on to 2, 2, 2 for the rest of the book.Second, my title.1 entries all use 1 for the chapter number.So I get something that looks like this:Any assistance is appreciated. Thanks,Wanda

Hi I'm using FM2017 Ditaxml 1.2 to create a new document. I can't figure out how to make certain chapters into appendices. I save the ditamap as Book 2017 w/ FM components... but still can't seem to figure out how to change some chapters to an appendix. ThanksRishi

I have some bulleted cross-ref lists where the bullets turn blue and are underlined like the text. I have other bulleted cross-ref lists in the same document where the bullets are black and are not underlined. Both have exactly the same settings in paragraph and character designer. How do I change the blue underlined bullets. to black without underlining? I've tried everything...no luck. Thanks.

Is there any way to break a ConRef link in Frame 2020? I have two similar documents, one has a number of ConRef’s to the other. It is creating a formatting nightmare. Can the link be broken so content becomes editable? Kind of like what can be done with text insets.

Dear all,I want to do something with the content of an edittext area - namely for onClick and for onDoubleClick. As you might know, these events are not triggered in edittext - but for example in a listbox. Hence I try to set up specific event handlers. Adobe FrameMaker 2019Windows Server 2019 Anytime I update a FrameMaker book, I get the following in the Book Error Log:"Printer setting for color "X" is inconsistent." Is there a way to fix this? Not sure if these warnings slow the update down.Thanks!

Dear friends,FM-15: With an ExtendScript I get a complete list of all marker types - and discovered two types I have never noticed: End Marker Number Utility and Start Marker Number Utility.I have not found in Help what they are used for.→ Does anyone of You know what they are intended for?I only recently discovered the menu item Insert > Publish Markers with a number of marker types not listed in the Insert Marker dialogue. About these there is ample information in Help.

I have cross-refs I'm trying to reformat in Framemaker 2015 from 12pt ariel to 10pt calibre. No problem with the change at first. But once I save and reopen, they always revert back to the original setting. No matter what I try it keeps doing the same thing. Why won't these changes stick? Thanks. 

in a large framemaker document i am makin. I removed the auto flow tag but the pages are still connected. its messing with the whole flow of document and changing table placement amonst other things. This was a early product manual. I removed the flow tag on each individual page. but pages still appear to be connected..Any quick way to fix this. i construct my documents now in dissconncted pages because the large variety of different outlines. i am not yet comformtable using master pages in a dissconnected page setting..How can i assure these pages are disconnected on this document. 

I have an 11x17 landscaped document where the left page has the content and the right page has "This Page Intentionally Left Blank" and nothing else. I want to include the right page's page number next to the left page's page number in the footer. For example, "Page 1/2" then the next left page will have "Page 3/4". Is this possible or will I have to rig a text box outside the master page to do that?

I use FM 2020 to set up my DITA books in which I use bookmaps to organize individual chapters and ditamaps to create the map for each chapter and xml file format in order to store content.Now, if I set the style of the figure.title to f:Figure <$chapnum>.<n+>: \sn via the paragraph designer, the numbering of figure captions correctly reflects the corresponding combination: chapter number.figure number, such as Figure x.y which means figure number y in chapter x. However, cross-referencing to these figures is not correcly done: that is the value for chapter number (x) is always 1 in every chapter.Is that something I can fix or it is rather a bug?

I'm running Framemaker 2019 release. How do I insert a graphic and have it horizontally aligned with the paragraph above it? Right now, the graphic is inserted using File > Import File, and I have selected 150 dpi. However, the graphic is centered horizontally on the page, and I would like it aligned with the paragraph above, which is where the anchor is, too. I cannot find the answer in the user doc. Hi DITA users, I am trying to understand why FM changes the colwidth units of my tables from mm to * each time I save the xml files. Any ideas?Example of a table with three columns.before save:<colspec colnum="1" colname="1" colwidth="35mm" colsep="0"/><colspec colnum="2" colname="2" colwidth="25mm" colsep="0"/><colspec colnum="3" colname="3" colwidth="100mm" colsep="0"/>after any change in the xml file and then save (note that I did not change the colwidth, they got changed autonomously): <colspec colnum="1" colname="1" colwidth="22*" colsep="0"/><colspec colnum="2" colname="2" colwidth="16*" colsep="0"/><colspec colnum="3" colname="3" colwidth="63*" colsep="0"/> consequently the width of each column and the whole width of the table are different after each save.Now if I change the units to mm again and save they stay in mm until the next time I change and save the file.

Dear all,In my documentation for ES i have a file Constants.txt which is now 5 years old and I suspect that it is not complete any more. It is an extract from the chm file by Jongware,  (FM 12 Object Model as of 2015).  Hence I'm looking for an up-to-date list of the constants.I do not find anything of that kind in C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe ExtendScript Toolkit CC\Required\.In the FDK documentation the constants are spead around - and there is no indication of their type (binary, integer, …) or value: FA_errno value Meaning FE_BadDocId Invalid document ID. I am facing a problem which is becoming a boomerang:What is the best way to get consistent figure numbering in DITA documents throughout the chapters?It is worth mentionming that I publish my DITA bookmap via the publish panel not using File-> Save as...The problem is: If I use the Format: f:Figure <n+>:\t for figure:title, FrameMaker restarts the Figure caption number to 1 in every chapter. Consequently you have multiple figures with the same number in your document (bad idea).If I set the figure.title Format to: f:Figure <$chapnum>.<n+>: \sn, the numbering becomes consistent but the cross referencing to those figures is not.For this case, I have tried the following cross reference formats:1. Figure with Number:In the first case the chapnum is set to one in every chapter, i.e. all referenced Figures start with 1.some number follows.2. any combination with Page number:In this case the page number restarts from 1 in every chapter.  Conclusion is

Barb Binder triggered my interest in creating an equivalent Find/Replace for FM (see here).I have an idea of an UI which allows to insert Regex elements by selection from panel with drop down etc.. This shall be opened on click on the button RegEx:BTW it seems that FM does not check the validity of a RegEx: ^([IVX]+)(.does not create an error message if used for Find. FM just tells “Nothing found” The error is obvious: a mismatch in parentheses.FM provides three flavours of RegEx syntax; Perl (the default), Grep and Egrep (enhanced Grep). There is a t least one significant difference betwee these flavours: handling of line breaks in the dot operator (any character). The last few weeks I've noticed that I cannot use the character palette. When I click Insert > Character > Character Palette, all that happens is that the Insert entry on the menu bar is deselected. The same thing happens with Hex Input. I checked all the other items on the Insert menu, and they all work. I've tried a number of suggestions provided on the FrameUsers list, including trying to change screen resolution (tricky, I'm already at the highest), moving to using the laptop screen only, variations on the Windows+Shift+arrow keys ... nothing works. I thought briefly it might be a corrupted program because Frame was giving me some odd errors when I closed it, but I've reinstalled with all updates, no longer get the errors on close out, and I'm STILL not seeing either the palette or the hex input.It isn't a TERRIBLE issue, since I've already created variables for most of the non-standard characters (mostly fractions) that I use and know keyboard shortcuts for most of the rest,

Hello, I am looking for an ExtendScript equivalent of the FrameMaker command File > Publish > Basic HTML. Specifically, I would like to see how the command identifies and assigns filenames to the graphics. For example, inset_0.jpg, inset_1.jpg, and <filename>001.jpg. I need to write an ExtendScript that exports the graphics from a FrameMaker file, and I would like that script to use the same logic that the File > Publish > Basic HTML command uses so that the graphic filenames are named in the same way. Take care, Jason
