FrameMaker

We use a number of single-row Table Styles for product navigation and notes. Depending on the instance, a specific Paragraph Style is used, e.g. the NAV Paragraph Style is used for product navigation whereas NTS is used notes and tips. Each also have a corresponding Table Style of the same name. Is there a way to automatically apply a Table Style based on the Paragraph Style used? I.e. the user creates a table of any style and enters the relevant text using the correst Paragraph Style. The Table Style is automatically updated to the correct/matching Table Style. (Similar to how Master Pages are applied based on Paragraph Styles)

I added a new Figure to a chapter in a book file. How do I update the list of figures? I tried "update book" and that didn't work. I tried right-clicking on the file, and it doesn't give me an option.  Also...how do I really move an anchored frame? 

I have downloaded the trial version of Adobe Framemaker 2020, I have the License key, but i dont see the option where to enter the License key. Please help..I am the first time user earlier working on Madcap flare.

Hi, I'm trying to print document as pdf when the Element boundaries are turned on. The square brackets are printed in pdf (they should't appear in printed document). I'm using an FDK function but it doesn't work in all cases. When the document is opened changes are made Element boundaries are turn on and a document is saved it works but document must be opened. When the document is not opened it doesn't work. In FM10 and FM12 F_ApiSetInt(FV_SessionId, fm_docId, FP_ElementBoundaryDisplay, FV_ELEM_DISP_NONE) works but in FM19 don't. Any suggestion ?Than you for your replies. 

well i have been trying to deal with a cross ref format,the code goes likeSee <Cross Reference>Section<$chapnum> <$paratext><Default ¶ Font>the issue is that <Cross Reference> character tag gives a blue color at the rest cross,but first word, "See" that i need to be in black keeps on turning into a magenta one,i have tried entering an extra tag after it, or changing spaces or whatever,but update keeps on returning them to magenta and then the blue,what is going on?this has become a headache for a day at least,,, 

I am using FM2019 to publish to HTML5 output. I see the skins have a glossary option and I now wish to build that glossary within my FM doc so that it is published into my Help. I am confused with the markers Glossary and Glossary Term, and how to associate a definition with a glossary term. The online Help instructions say: [In the document, place the pointer in the paragraph containing the definition of the term.]; I do not have a place in the content doc that shows a definition, that is why I am creating the glossary in the first place. I could use a clear step by step for this task, I hope someone in this forum can help. Thanx,Bill

I just realized that Adobe decided to take away perpetual licensing and their new model would prevent us from using the software we paid money for if we stop our subscription. I'm wondering how does the Framemaker community feel about this?  As a writer, I can afford to pay for a perpetual license every few years but cannot afford a yearly license.Am I in the minority here?  

Hello,  Were currently using MIL-STD 40051-1C to develop a new IETM, we're having difficulty applying the XSL stylesheets to display the published style. Here's a link to website that has our official 40051C_v6_4 stylesheets for reference. https://www.logsa.army.mil/#/MILSTD40051A From some of the resources we’ve used, it looks like one would simply paste the XSL stylesheet reference just below the XML version. We’ve tried this and it’s declaring it a valid document, however, not displaying the style. We’ve also tried declaring the XSL stylesheet reference in the EDD with no success. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you,  Tayler  

When I try to update FrameMaker 2019 from the Help menu, I'm directed to Microsoft store to look for "auphd" link or app? When I go to MS store, no such link or app can be found. Cannot update FM. I'm stuck. Can anyone help please? Thanks. (I'm a monthly subscriber to TSC and never had this error before.)

I am using FM 2019 and publishing to html5 output via File-Publish. I would like my headings 2 and 3 to be within Heading 1, branching as subheadings. Im sure there is setting for this, just not sure where it is. My output just shows every topic as a heading1? -> Cheers,Bill 

Hi FM community,I'm using FM2019 64bit. Very simple problem.My client typically wants PDF output but now also wants HTML5 Interactive output. No problem.BUT, for some reason whenever I have a code snippet (typically in a paragraph tag), where the code snippet is in a different font (COURIER NEW), the font update does not occur!I've gone into the STS file and updated the Style Mapping for the character tag. Telling it to produce Courier New. But is doesn't do it.Has anyone ever seen this problem? Ideas?Appreciate any insights.

Hi FrameMaker experts, I've searched in the forum and also read What is the best method for language translations?, but I cannot find the answer I'm looking for. Please excuse, I'm not very familiar with FrameMaker.  Environment: Unstructured FrameMaker 15, FrameScript is available We try to enhance the number of insets to reuse more content and get smaller snippets. So far, all modules are stored in FrameMaker files, which are normally not being sent for translation within a project, only if the technical writer manually picks those files. All insets are redirected with a FrameScript to "empty module files" before translation and then redirected to the orginal module files when the translated MIF file is converted to a FrameMaker file again. This works and gives the technical writer more control of what is being translated. But the problem is, it is too complex for an environment with many insets. FrameMaker seems to copy "something" from the module

I downloaded the Zip file for Update 5 of FrameMaker 2019 (32-bit), but when I launch the .exe file, a completely empty dialog box titled Adobe FrameMaker (2019 release) 32 bit Installer opens.I have no clue how to resolve this .. I have admin rights on my computer.Does anyone have any ideas?  The updater task is running in Windows, and it's not "Not responding" (screenshots attached) Thanks!Annette

It is impossible to find installation files for Framemaker at Adobe.com.There's no link in my Adobe Account.There's no link at support section in adobe.There's no link at download section at adobe. Really, guys, I must fill in all the fields to have "trial" version installation files?You can't even find ANY information about actual version of Framemaker.It seems, lik Adobe don't like Framemaker users...

When in structure view of FM2019 some element is unfold and then close the document the FM AIP sends event FA_Note_PreQuitDoc(which is correct). But, the boolean FP_DocIsModified is set to true.We do not need to save document upon any click in Structure View.Any idea please ?

I am trying to assign different values to one key name and differentiate them based on the product attribute such that when I refer to them using the keyref command they take the corresponding value for their product. But it apparently ignores the product and all the keywords for all the products take the value of the first keydef. There is a known issue between framemaker and the army 40051C dtd whereas fm graphic element is empty but the 40051C dtd graphics element is a container with mapref*. Result is that the xml file you build will not validate because it shows as undefined.  Is there a rwr or application rule that will get around this problem?

All of our graphics are linked to a separate network location from the FrameMaker files.We moved graphics files to new location. so now it is asking to connect every images from new folder.i have n number of images so it is taking time to update all the images. is there any quick way toupdate images from new folder?.framemaker file looking images from old location. if im giving update document to use new path once also it is not taking images automatically.is there any way to edit link?

I use DITA bookmaps to publish my books in PDF and HTML among others. Per default the PDF filename is same as the bookmap filename. The question is if it is possible to set a PDF filename that one gets from the Publish tool based on a variable name that one can define in the bookTitleTpl.fm template?

I opened FM 2017 and opened a book.  A panel opens on the left side of the FM "container."  I call this the Book panel.  The font size in the book panel listing all the chapter files in the book panel are suddenly very, very small!  How do I increase the size of the font?  The chapter titles in the Book panel are almost illegible!  Overall, all the tab labels for chapters and the file titles have been reduced, also, some very dramatically!  What is going on and how can I fix it? I have tried closing everything and rebooting.  No help.  Am using Windows 10. Thanks, madea

In March of this year, I had FrameMaker 2019 installed on my system, running on Windows 10 Pro. I experienced no significant issues with it - however, over time, it has become progressively sluggish - it takes forever to open a document, it freezes when I try to save my work, generate a TOC or compile a .pdf, and overall has caused a lot of frustration and productivity loss. I work with unstructured FM and have installed any available updates from Adobe. Can anyone provide some insight on this? It would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you

Hello friends,i am currenly working on customizing FrameMaker with ExtendScript.When I completely restart ExtendScript Toolkit, I always have to change the "main engine" (don't know if this is the correct term) of my script from "ExtendScript Toolkit CC" to "Adobe FrameMaker 2017" via this panel:Is there a way to modify the code, which implements this functionality automatically without user input as shown in the picture above?Thanks a lot!Selim

Greetings. I am a newcomer to FrameMaker and have been working with it for the last couple of months as a developer: I am in a project where content from structured FrameMaker documents has to be exported into an applicaton we are supporting. After checking out various XML formats, we found that the DocBook one included the file name of graphic files (href), which is what we wanted. After some time, we were given the requirement to also export conditional text. We found that conditional text was not included in the DocBook format, but was included in a lot of other XML formats. However, we haven't found any XML format other than DocBook including the graphic file names. Could somebody advise the best course of action? Is it possible to export to XML such that graphic file names as well as conditional text is exported? Thanks in advance.
