FrameMaker

The document I'm editing contains a large number of icon images, and two of them are causing the document load to throw an error like "insufficient memory to import file w_icon_redo.png". The document loads and can be edited, but the two elements which import the two problem icons have simply been dropped.The problem must be related to the PNG files, because no matter how I shuffle the document around the same two files cause the errors. If I create a document which just contains a couple of words and one of the problem icons, I get the same error.However I can see nothing odd about the two PNG files which won't load. Hi All, Something that I messed with in the HTML options in FrameMaker 2015 is causing there to be no hyperlinks in the output. It was working, not it's not. How can I reset this to it's defaults? Thanks!

Has anyone had an issue with importing graphics into a table cell in version 2019? We have done this for years and now graphics are scaled to a ridiculously small percentage. The graphics can be scaled back to 100% and the anchored frame can then be resized but this appears to be a bug.

I have my figure numbering set up in a 2,000+ page document (welcome to government life) and have never had issues.  Recently, I had to convert the files to the newer version of FM.  As I was making changes and updates to the document (not styles), I realized that my Figures proceeded as follows: 2-147, 2-148, 2-139, 2-140..they continue correctly from that point on, but for the life of me, I cannot figure out why the figure number jumped back by 9! There are duplicates of figure numbers.  Any help appreciated!

We use the following paragraph auto-numbering format:C:<$chapnum>.<n>.<n+>< =0 >< >< >\t  It works as expected.For our purposes, we have multiple sub-chapters in a document.For instance.Chapter 1.1Chapter 1.2Chapter 1.3The Auto-numbering from our paragraph format would be:1.1.11.1.21.1.3What I would like to do is to add another auto-number sequence after this, it would look like this:1.1.1 XY11.1.2 XY2Then it should continue in Chapter 1.2 like this1.2.1 XY3Basically I want to hard code "XY" in the paragraph format and increment the numerical digit after "XY" and have it increment across multiple chapters (1.1/1.2/1.3) sequentially.The format would be: C:<$chapnum>.<n>.<n+>< =0 >< >< >\t  XY (?).  I don't know if this is possible, but what auto-numbering element would allow me to increment the digit after "XY" (signified by the question mark in my example).

Hi All,I am pitching to write a bilingual manual (English + Hindi) and would like to use Framemaker. The sample pdf of an earlier job shows that the English and Hindi pages are located back to back and their page numbers are identical. I believe that the sample is made in MS Word, which I would like to avoid in favour of Framemaker. Does Framemaker have a method by which subsequent pages will have the same numbers? Instead of using the page number variable, can we have even pages follow a certain number series and the odd pages follow a different number series?Regards Apurva

Is there any way to make the icons in the menu bars larger--they're about 1 pt in size and I really have to strain to discern which is which. I've already tried re-installing FM and also Edit/Preferences/Interface.Thanks,HelpAngel

I am updating a book with 15 files from Frame 5.0 to 2019 and have gotten all but 3 files transferred/migrated over.  After opening up my old files with FM 2019, I saved each one as a MIF file and then re-saved as .fm (2019) file. I then deleted the original files from the directory. I updated the file names in the book to reflect their new .fm end. I opened all 15 files and "resolved" unresolved cross references. In each file I had a several unavailable fonts that I mapped to available fonts via the font pod. I saved each file and the closed all the files and the book.When I open all the files 3 files still give a message about unavailable fonts and 1 file also says unresolved cross references. The Cross-reference pod shows several files have unresolved cross references and on these files I use "Edit => Update References" to them. I save the files and thenclose the files. Upon reopening the files I get the same messages. I've repeated this many times with the same result (thi

I am using framemaker 7.0. I am trying to create a pdf  in acrobat 7.0 that is 11x17. I cannot create any pdf that is larger than 8.5x11. If I select Print to microsoft pdf I get pages are larger than the printer paper. If I try to save as in adobe pdf in framemaker i get "Framemaker could not find adobe PDF printer instance, which must be installed to execute save as command. If I try to open the framemaker file in acrobat I get the message cannot open the file because it is not a supported file type or because it was damaged.HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I recently installed TCS2019 so now have FM 2019.While I'm muddling through various surprises and hiccups, I noticed one change that has me befuddled --- did the functionality of Add/Edit Variable change between 2015 and 2017/2019? (or is there a setting to get the old functionality back?)Specifically... in 2015, if I select a variable in the Variable pod and click the Edit or Create New user Variable icons, the Add/Edit Variable pod would appear with the currently selected variable and the Create button defaulted. (Which, yes, could be confusing given that you'd want to create a new variable from scratch, maybe)Now, if I wanted to create a bunch of variants of a variable (in this case 'Product Tag 1'), I could change the Name, change the Definition, then click Create. I've just installed FrameMaker 2019 (64 bit) and have open some of my older FM 2015. Everything looks good except when I publish it PDF some pages are missing and some fonts look funny. If I retype the page it seem to work. As you can except this take a long time in a 400 page book.Any ideas????

I am trying to scroll to the bottom of a chapter in FrameMaker but it will not let me. At the bottom of the last visible page, there is the beginning of a bulleted list. There are many items in this list but only a few are visible. The rest of the list is hidden. If I go to the end of one of the bullet points and hit Enter, FM does not advance to the next page. The cursor goes below the bottom margin line and eventually stops and will not move down any more.If I go to the end of the last visible bullet point and hit Delete, the next (non-visible) bullet in the list moves up to the end of that bullet's text. If I continue to hit delete, more of the hidden bullets (bold text below) appear. It still will not advance to the next page.So it seems that the bulleted text is there, but for some reason is being hidden from view. I noticed that the bottom margin is a solid line instead of a dotted line. Could the issue be related to this? I don't know why the margin line isn't dotted or how to c

In FrameMaker 12 I can't get the spot cross-references to work, despite following the Help instructions. I created a cross-reference marker, then created the cross-reference to the marker, but it keeps inserting the entire paragraph and not just the marker words I want.For example:1. I added a marker of type Cross-reference to a paragraph in one of my FM files, called "User Management".2. In another file, I created a cross-reference link to my marker (Special > Cross-reference and source type Cross-reference Markers, then selected my marker)3. In format type, I select Heading, which has the definition of <$paratext>  as one of the building blocks.Unfortunately, this procedure then inserts the full paragraph text, not just the marker text I want.I suspect step 3 is where I am going wrong, but the Help instructions are not specific on Formats/Building blocks to use.ThanksWarren

The reference pages in our template (and therefore all our books) use fonts we do not have and do not want. This causes Font not found errors every time we update a book or open a chapter. Is there a way around this?

I have to change the image file formats from .gif to .png for a FM book. Now if I change the file format then FM does not recognizes the old images and shows and error.Is there a way to update file format in one go? Thanks.

In FrameMaker, we can use openpage name.pdf:1 and a link will be created that is  looking for a PDF named name.pdf that is in the same directory as the main PDF. We can test all the links to the separate PDFs, then attach the separate PDFs to the main PDF after that, but we have to manually link (using Adobe Acrobat) to the now-attached PDFs.  Then later if we have to re-generate the main PDF, we can use Adobe Acrobat Pro to move those manually added links to the new PDF and they work - so the manually added links must have the separate PDF names included - however, FrameMaker does not currently support adding hyperlinks (in FrameMaker) to separate PDFs that will be attached to the main generated PDF, as far as I am aware. Does anyone know a method to automate linking to attached PDFs?

1.  I mostly use PNG and AI files for my images, all imported by reference and with a border on the AF set by an Object Style.  I've found that nearly all of my PNGs lose their borders when I publish to HTML.  The odd one or two keep their borders, but I can't determine why not.  On the contrary, all of my AI images keep their borders in the HTML.Anyone know why this happens?My workaround for this is to place a very tiny--and blank white--AI image behind the PNG, in the same AF.  Dunno why this works, but it always does.I've tried using the STS to place borders around images, and it works great, but it treats equations as if they were images, so they get borders too.  Our style standards say no borders around equations.  Argh.2.  Some of the images lose only one or two of their borders.  I've managed to fix this by enlarging the AFs so there is more white space around the image.  If that fails, I move the border from the AF to around th
