FrameMaker

We are currently looking for a s1000d authoring software, and an IETM viewer.  Do you know if DM's created from framemaker can be viewed in most viewers like NSIV, Eagle, or Contenta to name a few.

When using the search feature integrated with html5 output from FrameMaker 2019, search does not highlight the search terms. In the last version of FrameMaker you would get yellow highlightning of the search terms found, but that feature seems gone. Can it be fixed?Is it a bug?Best regardsBjørn

I have just switched from FM12 to 19 and now can't seem to generate a PDF with Bookmarks. What am I missing?

FrameMaker 2019 Release, Version 15.0.2.503Is there a way to apply change bars to an anchored frame?  I have had some luck if I create empty paragraphs before and after, select both empty paragraphs (and everything in between and then apply a change bar.  But I have inconsistent results, and this seems like a clumsy workaround.  I have been drawing them in manually (gasps).

FRAME 12, first folder holds a .fm file, the other folders  hold books.  On a book update only the first folder is updated.  If I exclude it, FRAMEtells me no file to update.  Net/net is FRAME is not updating the hierarchy.  Is there a way to fix this?Thanks!--Jim

Hi,This morning, suddenly FM2019 crashes on startup. The splash screen appears and then just disappears. I think it gets a little past "Filters" but it is hard to tell. Both 32bit and 64bit crash. I've tried full reinstallation, manual deletion of the app settings folder, all the basic tricks I know. This is a major problem for me, obviously.My OS is Windows 10 v1803 - Build 17134.523If no one knows any more tricks, does anyone know if I can get Adobe support for this?Russ

Not sure whether I've forgotten how to do this, or in fact never done it before :-}Page after page of reference information … styles with autonumbering for the blue labels, style with "across all columns and sideheads" for the bold black numbering.Either of these by itself works like a charm, as shown over 'spacious' – but I'm wondering whether I can make the two styles work together and deliver something like the example over 'compact'.Thanks in advance for any tips.

Hi everyone,I'm using the utility to compare two documents: a .FM and a .FIM. I've set the colors for the diff in the menu Special --> Track Text Edits --> Configure Color. But when I run the command Utilities --> Compare Documents, the colors used are a very light green (for marking the added text) and a red for deleted text, which does not match the colors I've picked for the Configure Color step.Any suggestion on how to change these colors when comparing documents would be very appreciated,Thanks!Naji

Hello!I want to edit color and background of a condition tag in FrameMaker 2019, but the respective fields in the "Edit Conditional Tag" window are deactivated and cannot be edited. What can be wrong? There are several colours defined in my document, and I can select them elsewhere (e.g., for fonts, table shading, ...)Bye,Kerstin

Over on the Frameusers email list, a list member has reported that Frame 2019 on Windows 10 (64-bit) will randomly blank the screen for a few seconds (sometimes longer) and then return to view. I was having the same issue on Windows 7 (64-bit). I haven't seen it since I  upgraded to Windows 10, but since that was only last Friday and the issue is intermittent, that's not entirely surprising. Amitoj Singh has responded to the email list saying that Adobe has some leads on what might be causing the issue and that they expect to include a fix for it in Update 3, which should be released in March.

FrameMaker Release 2019, version 15.0.2.503.I've inherited a document, and having one hiccup on TOC generation.  One particular paragraph style is not showing up.The paragraph style that is not showing up is called "Heading 3E". It is listed as included on the setup TOC window.  I don't know enough about this book file and the chapters to know where to look next.

Hi everyone,I have a small issue I hope someone can help with. I haven`t used FrameMaker in quite some time. I`m using Version 11.When I added a List of Figures and a List of Tables to my document, Figure 2 started to appear as Figure 1 but Figure 1 (on page 1) is still present as Figure 1 so basically I have 2 examples of "Figure 1" in the document.There is a cover page, then the TOC, LOF, LOT and on page 6 or 7 is where Figure 2 changed to Figure 1.Does anyone have any idea how I can resolve this? Has anyone in this community ever converted FrameMaker files to Flare files, without having any version of FrameMaker installed?

I'm using FrameMaker12 on a new computer that was recently upgraded to Windows10. I'm having some strange things happening with the software (minimizing file size every time I click inside an anchored frame, co-worker can't see my changes and graphics are coming up grey boxes if someone else imports them even though the import is from a common folder on the same server). Is this a possible side effect of Windows10 or another issue? I can't find System Requirements for FrameMaker 12 on the Adobe website. Has anyone else had this problem with FrameMaker? This is a first for me.

I'm running FrameMaker 2019 64-bit in Win 10. It's terrific in a single-column page layout, but I've had difficulty controlling text flow (top-to-bottom) in a two-column page layout - despite experimenting with various paragraph tag styles and anchored frame settings, the text flows (auto word-wraps) to the 2nd column before flowing top to bottom in the 1st column, and paragraphs of text can end up out of order depending on the paragraph tag styles applied and/or anchored frame placement on the page. Have other FM2019 users encountered this problem, and if so, how did you manage it? Thank You.

When I generate a .pdf from a book file or an individual file, the bookmarks no long include only the Chapter, Heading 1, and Heading 2 Paragraph styles. Now, about half of the Paragraph catalog is listed in the Include Paragraphs section of the PDF Setup for Selected Files > Bookmarks tab:I reset the Include Paragraphs to be only the ChapterTitle, Heading1, and Heading2:Then I Save the file/book and print the PDF. And the next time I need to print a pdf, I have to do it all over again.  I thought things like PDF set up/print settings were saved with the doc/book?This started about a month ago.  I am using FrameMaker 11.  This happens with all of my FrameMaker individual files and book files, when I'm doing Save as PDF... or Print Book... (to PDF) or Save Book As... (pdf).

This started when I upgraded to FM 2019, Update 2. Before it worked fine.If I use Windows Explorer (Win 7) or File Explorer (Win 10) and double-click on a .fm or .book file, nothing happens. If Frame is closed, it doesn't open. If Frame is running, the document or book doesn't open. The file association is set correctly. I have checked other file formats, and all of them open in the designated default programs, including Adobe, Photoshop, Visio, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Notepad++. If I right-click on the file or book and choose open with Frame 2019, it opens. I can, of course, open from within the program. This is a loss of convenience more than a hard stop, but it's very odd.In addition, the problem I was having with the character palette has modified since the upgrade to Win 10. When running FM2019 Update 2 under Win 7, I couldn't open it or the Hex Input at all. Since the upgrade to Win10, I can open both, but each close within about 20 seconds or maybe less. HiWhat I try to do?- I wan't to create a "library" file where I list terms like product name which can change between projects. Then I reuse these paragraphs in my files and I have to update only this one file when the project changes. I would use the same idea for the warnings and notes as well.How I have done it?- I created topic MyVariables.xml and included <ph> element for product name. I added id product_name for the element.- In the file which is used in my ditamap I added <ph> and added to conref attribute MyVariables.xml#shared/product_name (I found this "shared" from some web discussion")Result?- As long as all the files are located in the same folder it works as wanted.Problem?- I would like to have is a possibility to keep files in different folders so that those could be grouped logically, not to have dozens of files in one folder. Hi,As far as I can tell, in a map you can define a key to reference a topic:<keydef href = "Concepts/c_access_control_policies.xml"    keys = "access control policies" type = "concept"><topicmeta><navtitle>Access control policies</navtitle></topicmeta></keydef>For entire topics this is fine: I can then use they key "access control policies" whenever I need to reference this topic. However, I'd like to be able to reference an element within a topic. For example, have a topic that lists all the standard terms and phrases; each of these elements would have unique IDs etc. In the map, I'd then create keydefs to reference these elements. So far, I've been unable to do this.I can easily create references to these standard terms and phrases via conrefs, but each time I want to create a conref, I have to go through the process of locating the file etc. I would have thought that keys would be easier.Any help gratefully received.Peter

About a year and a half ago, I used the Super Find Change script to update a rather large book (<10000 pages). The book update feature never worked, but I worked around it by opening groups of 10 or so chapters at a time and running SuperFind on them. It worked well, even though I couldn't do too many at a time.This week I opened up the script to run on some chapters but it will only focus on a single file. I've tried every variation of opening files or selecting them in the file list navigation pane, all to no avail. Looking at the blog post linked above, I can see that a few people have had a similar problem. However, I can't find anything where someone has resolved this issue.Is anyone able to use the script to update multiple chapters simultaneously in a book using Frame 2017 14.0.4.511? If so, can you walk me through what you're clicking? I'm pretty sure I know what I'm doing, but maybe there is some crazy step I'm skipping.

Hey everyone. Does Framemaker allow changing the default green and red for track edits? Even just removing the underline or strikethrough?I've looked everywhere, and it seems it isn't possible, but it's really hard to believe. Thanks!

I have the weirdest problem with links for headings in a TOC or LOP not going to the correct location. For example, I have created chapter TOCs and LOPs and some of the markers on the headings in both the TOC and LOP don't go to the right location, even though I know the file is updating because I've tested adding text to the heading.I was alerted to it because the links were wrong in the PDF, but the links/markers are in fact wrong in the FrameMaker file, even the text and page numbering is correct. For example, if I add a word to the heading and update the book, or the TOC, or the LOP, that change is reflected. But when I Ctrl + ALT + click on the troublesome heading in the FrameMaker TOC or LOP, it goes to an incorrect location in the chapter. For example, I'll do Ctrl + ALT + click on the heading in the LOP or TOC and it'll take me to a body paragraph and about 20 pages before the right location. I don't understand how a marker could even be created this way (I'm assuming it's a ma
