This started when I upgraded to FM 2019, Update 2. Before it worked fine.If I use Windows Explorer (Win 7) or File Explorer (Win 10) and double-click on a .fm or .book file, nothing happens. If Frame is closed, it doesn't open. If Frame is running, the document or book doesn't open. The file association is set correctly. I have checked other file formats, and all of them open in the designated default programs, including Adobe, Photoshop, Visio, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Notepad++. If I right-click on the file or book and choose open with Frame 2019, it opens. I can, of course, open from within the program. This is a loss of convenience more than a hard stop, but it's very odd.In addition, the problem I was having with the character palette has modified since the upgrade to Win 10. When running FM2019 Update 2 under Win 7, I couldn't open it or the Hex Input at all. Since the upgrade to Win10, I can open both, but each close within about 20 seconds or maybe less. HiWhat I try to do?- I wan't to create a "library" file where I list terms like product name which can change between projects. Then I reuse these paragraphs in my files and I have to update only this one file when the project changes. I would use the same idea for the warnings and notes as well. How I have done it?- I created topic MyVariables.xml and included <ph> element for product name. I added id product_name for the element.- In the file which is used in my ditamap I added <ph> and added to conref attribute MyVariables.xml#shared/product_name (I found this "shared" from some web discussion")Result?- As long as all the files are located in the same folder it works as wanted.Problem?- I would like to have is a possibility to keep files in different folders so that those could be grouped logically, not to have dozens of files in one folder. I haven't found how this could be done. I found an instruction to add folder path to conref but there was not instruction how to do
Hi,As far as I can tell, in a map you can define a key to reference a topic:<keydef href = "Concepts/c_access_control_policies.xml" keys = "access control policies" type = "concept"><topicmeta><navtitle>Access control policies</navtitle></topicmeta></keydef>For entire topics this is fine: I can then use they key "access control policies" whenever I need to reference this topic. However, I'd like to be able to reference an element within a topic. For example, have a topic that lists all the standard terms and phrases; each of these elements would have unique IDs etc. In the map, I'd then create keydefs to reference these elements. So far, I've been unable to do this.I can easily create references to these standard terms and phrases via conrefs, but each time I want to create a conref, I have to go through the process of locating the file etc. I would have thought that keys would be easier.Any help gratefully received.Peter
About a year and a half ago, I used the Super Find Change script to update a rather large book (<10000 pages). The book update feature never worked, but I worked around it by opening groups of 10 or so chapters at a time and running SuperFind on them. It worked well, even though I couldn't do too many at a time. This week I opened up the script to run on some chapters but it will only focus on a single file. I've tried every variation of opening files or selecting them in the file list navigation pane, all to no avail. Looking at the blog post linked above, I can see that a few people have had a similar problem. However, I can't find anything where someone has resolved this issue. Is anyone able to use the script to update multiple chapters simultaneously in a book using Frame 2017 14.0.4.511? If so, can you walk me through what you're clicking? I'm pretty sure I know what I'm doing, but maybe there is some crazy step I'm skipping.
Hey everyone. Does Framemaker allow changing the default green and red for track edits? Even just removing the underline or strikethrough?I've looked everywhere, and it seems it isn't possible, but it's really hard to believe. Thanks!
I have the weirdest problem with links for headings in a TOC or LOP not going to the correct location. For example, I have created chapter TOCs and LOPs and some of the markers on the headings in both the TOC and LOP don't go to the right location, even though I know the file is updating because I've tested adding text to the heading.I was alerted to it because the links were wrong in the PDF, but the links/markers are in fact wrong in the FrameMaker file, even the text and page numbering is correct. For example, if I add a word to the heading and update the book, or the TOC, or the LOP, that change is reflected. But when I Ctrl + ALT + click on the troublesome heading in the FrameMaker TOC or LOP, it goes to an incorrect location in the chapter. For example, I'll do Ctrl + ALT + click on the heading in the LOP or TOC and it'll take me to a body paragraph and about 20 pages before the right location. I don't understand how a marker could even be created this way (I'm assuming it's a ma
What is the best way to associate "Effectivity" for a <graphic> ? In this example, I need to associate <graphic> = "ICN-44-30-01-01of10.png" with <applicRefId>?Or would you associate it using <caveat>?Would it be too much trouble to try to associate it using <applicPropertyValues>?What is the best way?
Hi,I have a problem. I am trying to PDF Chinese in FrameMaker 15.02.503 and the words are coming out incorrectly. The font used is Microsoft YaHei and the problem occurs in my heading style but not in the body style. The following is the heading in FrameMaker:使用软件媒体和安全USB设备In the PDF, the heading looks very different, like this.https://bit.ly/2BajUC1Again, I do not have the same problem with my body content.Any thoughts about how I am screwing this up?Sean
Hi FrameMaker friends:Where did that checkbox go in FrameMaker 2019? I want to output each chapter of a book as its own PDF—all at one time!~Barb
With Adobe Creative Cloud applications nowadays, we can choose to install any of the previous versions back to CS6.A client of ours wants to purchase FM 2017 however, currently they can FM 2019 only. So is there any way for the client to downgrade to 2017 release after buying 2019 release?I don't suppose this link is any useful to this client for 2017 download as they need a serial number of the 2017 right?
I am using 13.0.5.547. I do not reference a file by the name 85076. What causes this error?1. I have Adobe Acrobat Pro set as my default printer.2. Rely on system fonts only is unchecked.3. Generate Acrobat Data is checked on to create a .ps file.I am trying to resolve an issue where some cross references within my Book do not work in the PDF but do work within Framemaker.
Hi,Today, I installed FM 2019 Release Version: 15.0.0.393 32 Bit. (I was working with FM 11, and after going to Windows 10, I encountered the no-PDF/crash problem, and ended up using the CMYK workaround.)I saw that the PDF output from my new FM 2019 is CMYK(!), but I want RGB -- and FM crashed after generating the PDF, just like with my FM 11. I read that the October 2018 FM update enables RGB, so I tried updating (Help > Updates). I got an Update Conflict, but I did not see the processes mentioned. I then got an a Error Code 87, which goes away only after I reboot. Any suggestions? Thanks
All of a sudden I'm having trouble creating a PDF for a document that uses Proxima Nova. I get the font as an asset from Creative Cloud. It used to work fine. I can save documents as PDFs just fine as long as they don't contain Proxima Nova. I can't figure out what changed recently. This happens on multiple documents so I know it's not a document issue. It happens on my older version of Frame 10 and on Frame 2019.Any ideas?
Is there an alt code for a lower case theta that works in Framemaker? I've tried a couple I found on the internet, but they don't work - they appear as some other symbol. Thanks, MK
I use TCS 2017 release. One file of my book contains a specific font (a webfont my company develops for its software).I cannot convert that file or that book into a PDF document, unless PDF option “Rely on system fonts only; do not use document fonts” is disabled. But when this function is disabled, there is no link in the PDF document: cross-references, the TOC, the Index, nothing can be clicked.
I use autonumbering paragraph format for repeated text such as a command prompt "CLI (admin@leaf1)>" but when converting to HTML the autonumber doesn't appear in output. It only displays what comes after the autonumber text. So CLI (admin@leaf1)>switch-setup-show displays as switch-setup-show without the command prompt text. Also, importing images from the reference page works for some of the images but not all. One appears so small it looks like a dot not the image.Any ideas?
Hello framers!I don't see a way to restrict checkbox selection in the Medit dialog box to only one out of X. Is this possible? Many thanks!Roman
I acquired another doc set and my notes are formatted as follows:I want to change the lines to black.Thank You
As other threads have already covered, I've been updating an application from FM8 to FM2019 and I've just noticed what appears to be a change in behaviour that I'd like to understand. When a user opens one of our XML documents in Frame, a pre-processing stylesheet is run which "expands" the document, pulling in the content of "included" sub-documents. This means that instead of having perhaps twenty-five separate tabs containing separate parts of a document, the user is able to edit in a single tab. When they save their changes, a post-processing stylesheet "collapses" the document into its constituent parts. So if (say) the original document a.xml contains the element<include srcfile="b.xml"/>then the preprocessing step transforms this into<included srcfile="b.xml"> <document..><title id="b1">Document B"</title>...</document></included>Frame presents the user with what appears to be a single document, and the structural view shows an "incl
I am converting unstructured documents to structured documents. I have a "Paragraph" element, which allows "ParagraphTitle" elements, <TEXT>, and other "Paragraph" elements under it (simplifying for ease of explaining the issue). The "ParagraphTitle" element has the following EDD:Element (Container): ParagraphTitle General rule: <TEXT> Text format rules In all contexts. Text range. Font properties Underline: SingleThe "ParagraphTitle" element comes at the beginning of the "Paragraph" element. The problem is that after the conversion the underline character formatting is bleeding into the parent ele
I am stuck on a student question...Her client wants to add letters to the running heads to indicate chapter subjects. For example, Chapter 1 might be on Safety, so page numbers should be S–1, S–2, S–3. There is nothing to grab from the page, but easy enough with user variables. Chapter 2 might be on Transportation, so page numbers should be T–1, T–2, T–3.But then she wants that same numbering in the TOC, and I'm hitting a wall. What am I missing?~Barb
I am working on a project and I need my TOC to display alphanumeric page numbers for my appendices. The actual appendices have appropriate alphanumeric numbering. However, when the page number display in the TOC, it is just the number "1". I tried going to the reference page and put "A+-" for the appendices following Appendix A hoping it would then provide "B-1", "C-1" and "D-1" but this did not happen. I got "A+-1" for all appendices. I also tried putting <$paratext> before the <$paranum> but that did not work either.Thank you in advance for your assistance!Edrice Angry
2019 Release, Version: 15.0.2.503I was editing a 51 page *.fm file, and now I have random green and underlined text. It does not seem to respond to changes from paragraph, or character designer - they don't even seem to recognize it as green and underlined (but it publishes to PDF as green and underlined, and on FM screen as well). When I highlight a section of the green text and select a different style from the character catalog, it will change the weight, angle, and variation, but it stays green, and stays underlined no matter what. The only way I have been able to change it back to to match the surrounding font properties is to highlight it, ctrl+c and immediately ctrl+v. It pastes back as normal.I don't know that this is what triggered it for sure because I didn't notice it until later, but I did perform a Find/Change operation, and hit change all (the whole book). That is not a normal procedure for me.
I want to edit a system variable and then save it as a new variable. The variable is for the short current date and we have a format we use as an example, 9 Sep 2011. Can this be done?regards,
Reading another discussion about using FM's Alert hypertext marker to generate sticky-note comments in PDF output, I was thinking this would be a good addition to my group's toolset, to flow our editorial comments and questions back to authors and other stakeholders. When I tested it, though, I got unexpectedly inconsistent results. For reference, we use unstructured FM2019 and Acrobat 2017 Pro (within TCS2019) to publish books (i.e., no dynamic/online formats required). I tried inserting an Alert marker in text in a few different files and created PDFs in a few different ways (i.e., print, save as, publish), and I got varying results:In one file, the marker turned into not one, but three PDF sticky notes, identical to each other but scattered around the marker location. I tried deleting and reinserting the marker, and tried outputting to PDF in all three ways, but got the same result each time.In another file, I got just one sticky when I used save as and publish to generate a PDF, but
