FrameMaker

Hi all,I am struggling with inserting of pictures into document. I am able to insert/import picture (via File>Import>File "copy into document") into document but sometimes FM is not able to reopen document with imported graphics and internal error is shown. Documents is possible to open when folder (AppData\Roaming\Adobe\FrameMaker\12) is removed but this is just workaround. This issue occurs unexpectedly. I inserted different types of pictures even eps file and there is no difference. I've been creating chm files using FrameMaker2015, and all of them open up in a small window in the corner.I've hunted through all the settings to find a window option, to no avail.Is there something I need to add to my HTML template page, or is there a source file I need to edit somewhere?Using the previous software combo, the chm opened in whatever size it was last time it was opened.

I am trying to add a footer and a background image that I can type over on the Title page. However, when I navigate to Master pages, it does not include the Title page and only allows me to add a footer and the background image to the following page. How can I set this up for the Title page of the document? I have already tried Format > Page Layout > New Master Page. It creates a border on the Title page but when I go to Master Pages, the Title page is still not included and I cannot add the footer or background image.

Hi all,I converted my structured document to an XML file. While converting the file to xml, the console showed many errors and most importantly, it gave a message that XML file is not validated. I created an EDD file> exported the EDD definitions > structured my document as such > Saved the file as an XML. Please see the screenshot here. My document only contains a table. The question is, when I reopen the saved XML file back in FrameMaker, I do not see the table as formatted here. I just see the words EXP. Am I missing a step? If anyone can explain or walk me through the process, I would highly appreciate it. Thanks in advance,Ahsan

Hi thereI'm trying to add an image with a little text below.  The best way I found is adding an anchored frame at insertion point, inside it I add a text frame (in this frame I write the text centered) and inside it I add another anchored frame at top of column and centered with the image.Is there something easier? I need to place the image anchored in most cases.Thanks a lot

Happily trying to recreate a typescript from the 1960s which makes thoughtful use of margins, and I've hit a snag I've never seen before: one page hasa title (which I've set using Across all columns and sideheads)body text (In column)footnotes for body text (In column)the unusual construct of a footnote with the call-out at the end of the title.FM12 is rendering the footnote on the title as Across all columns … while I'd prefer to match the original and have _all_ footnotes In column.Any ideas?

Is there any way (or available scipt) to select multiple occurrences of the same missing font displayed in the font pod at once for replacement? The font pod only seems to offer selection of one font for replacement at a time, but selection of multiple entries of the same font in the list would be a great help.I have multiple files with the same set of missing fonts that need to be replaced permanently. Since the font pod already shows a neat list of the missing fonts for all open files: Is there any way to select multiple occurrences of the same missing font and replace it with the same font at once?It takes hours to do this for each file and each font, and changing and importing formats or using "update all" is not an option.It's unstructured FM, and I would be able to use FM12 to FM2017 to work with. Thanks for any helpful suggestions.

Hi - I have a question about adjusting equation boundary boxes in FM 2017.  I recently discovered that some of our equations were not being rendered in our html help system.  After much digging I found that this because we use a special font for our equations, and the software we use to generate our help system has trouble generating sufficient space around certain symbols (e.g., the summation symbol) for this font.  Their help has refused to fix the problem, so I'm on my own.One solution I came up with was to manually increase the size of the bounding box, turningintoThis fixes the problem.  However, since there are hundreds of these equations in our documentation, this is not a workable solution (not to mention the danger of carelessly re-shrinkwrapping everything...).I've been looking at the mif file to see if I can programmatically increase the size of the bounding box (maybe by padding it all around?), but have so far not had much success.  I tried increas

I am working on a book file that contains conditional text. One version of the book completely omits a chapter. Is there a way to add a condition that updates the page and chapter numbers in the book with the omitted chapter?

I'm using FrameMaker 12. I have a book with 17 files (one is a generated TOC). Every file has tracked edits and now I need to accept all the edits (redlines) in all the files to make a "clean" book. I also need to retain the redlined copy in addition to having a clean copy of the book. What is the best, most efficient way to do this? Do I Save as or copy the book to another folder and then accept the edits in all the files separately? Do I need to delete all the files from the book first and then add them back?

I have a basic conversion table that I use when applying structure based on styles to a saved from Word document.The conversion process adds "Id" attribute to some repeated elements but not the others. For example if I have multiple occurrences of title it would have Id's generated. The element para on the other hand does away without those Id's added. Neither of my documents - conversion or exported from Word file have EDDs attached and no information contained in reference pages.How can I suppress the Id attribute generation during applying structure with a conversion table?Thanks in advance.

hello,I have to process FM13 files, but unfortunately the installation of FM13 became FM2015 with updates. (It's been a while and I don't remember how exactly).I have older versions of FrameMaker installed, and they all can be started seperately as seperate versions of the program, but Framemaker13 seems to have vanished. I need the program to work with scripts provided by the customer, and they should not be edited in a higher version.Is there any way to have FM2015/FM2017 and FM13 on the same computer without problems, preferably with the old license key?Any suggestions would be appreciated.Thanks!

Because of a corrupted and unfixable McAfee installation, I'm having to get a new PC. Our IT folks have installed most of what I need and are letting me install and configure the rest of my software before I switch over to the new PC.I'm running FrameMaker 10 under Windows 7. FrameMaker on the new PC seems to be running OK and isn't complaining about the license. Should I deactivate the license on the old PC when I am finished, or just leave it to be formatted? I'm worried that if I deactivate the license on the old PC, it will kill off the one on the new PC as well.

Page numbers do not appear on the first page of new chapters. Continuous page numbering is spot-on, but I want to be able to see the page number in the footer of EVERY page, including the first page of a new chapter in the book.

I am finding that drag-n-drop of files in FM 2017 behaves differently than in 2015. I want to place a PDF file (an image), non-anchored, on a blank page, without affecting text flow (we aren't using text on these pages). In 2017, it creates an anchored frame and/or jumps the image to a new page and/or replaces the previous image. Is there any way to change the way drag-n-drop of PDF files into FM behaves?

Dear all,Although there is $home\HelpViewer.exe and $home\HelpCfg.ini on my system (w7 x64, FM-14.0.3.500) - the Help function does not work. Neither F1 nor selecting from the menu does anything.Double clicking HelpViewer.exe correctly opens the online-help for FM-14 aka 2017.Command Help in cmds.cfg is the same since years:<Command Help   <Label Help Topics...>   <KeySequence \!fh>   <Definition \x302>   <Description Open Help...>   <Mode All>>Yes, there are some plug-ins and ExtendScripts, but as far as I see they do not manipulate the menu.If I recall correctly there was an issue with HelpViewer.exe at the early versions of FM-14. Hence I had a copy of HelpViewer.exe from Fm-13 in use - but for the current release (build 500) the HelpViewer is OK.What may be the culprit?Klaus Daube

I have been using FrameMaker from V7.0 through to the current TCS version V2017, we send MIF files to our translator and until now this has caused no concerns.  We have just received our latest set of files back from the translator (first time sent to him in FM2017 MIF) and when we opened them, all the characters with accents are missing.     To test this, I sent the same files again saved as V7.0 MIF and V2017 MIF and opened them after translation. All text, including the accents, was present in the V7.0 versions but the FM2017 MIF was missing all the text with accents.  This really needs to be resolved, I do not wish to convert all the files to FrameMaker V7.0 MIF with the possible loss of the 2017 functionality.  Anyone have or know of any fixes?
