Who can explain this absurdity? When I publish an HTML Help file, some pages show an image of text where an anchored frame ought to be.I have seen this error on different pages in the output file, and the only way I can correct it is to convert the text inset to text (which means I have lost the benefit of the text inset).
Adobe Framemaker Bookmap has an icon at the top of the bookmap to "Switch To Document View". When you click on that button, it switches the bookmap to a document format. The only problem is there is no button to take you back to the tree view. I have had to shut the file down and re-open it in order to get my bookmap back. Since the "Switch To Document View" is at the top of the tree, with other options, I have accidently pressed it several times.I don't know why Framemaker creates these black holes in the user interface. Can anyone tell me how you switch back to tree view after you go into the Document View? Thanks!
The table variables are buggy, depending on the zoom, i.e. the table continuation:Zoom: 100 % (Cursor at the end of the table title text, placed directly after the table continuation variable)Zoom: 80% (Cursor at the start of the table title text)Zoom: 80% (Cursor at the end of the table title text)Without the table continuation variable, the cursor is at the intended place - whatever the zoom may be.Is this bug in the English FM version, too?
In the last 20 years, FM has undergone lots of revisions.Every FM user knows the shortcut to refresh the screen: Ctrl+l (small L).Why is there still the need for this shortcut? No automation possible?
In some portrait-oriented chapters, I am about to make long and wide tables that are multiple pages in length. I'd prefer to have them be landscape-oriented.I found a forum reply that says once a table is rotated, it cannot be edited. Is that always the case? Years ago, I thought there was an easy way to do this in FM 6, but then I didn't use FM for several years, and am now trying to work my way back into FM, using version 12, a very different animal.Do I have to create all of the tables squished into portrait orientation, and then only rotate them just before I have to create PDF output files? That would be a nightmare, because these will be tables that require fairly regular editing. Thanks,Michele
Hello,I'm cleaning out a bunch of old paragraph formats in a book, and then I'm adding in new formats. I did the first document in the book by hand so that it has exactly the formats I want. Several of the formats have new names, as well as new settings. Now I'm copying the new formats to the other documents in the book. However, if I simply copy them, this does not remove the old ones from the other documents. So instead, I'm removing all the old formats first (even ones that have been preserved in the new set of formats), and then copying the new ones from the document I changed by hand. Here's the problem: there are nearly 100 formats in the old format list. I can't find a way to do one "remove all formats" operation, so I have to click "delete" for each format. There are 22 documents in this book. That is a lot of mouse clicks. The upper joints of the fingers I use for the mouse are already developing arthritis from too many mouse clicks! In this age of repetitive stress injuries, wh
I would like to know if there is a way to use framemaker as a command to generate an output such as a pdf file without opening the framemaker UI.For example, I have already created a book file using framemaker. Now, a part of an overall product release, I would like to be able to execute the framemaker command to "process" the book file and generate the desired output such as a pdf file as specified in the form of a command option. Is this doable?Any feedback would be appreciated.
HelloI can't import svg files in fm document when svg files are located on my computer (I have a message saying that the filter can't finish the conversion), but I can import the same svg files when they are located on a network. I don't understand why... .I use Version 14.0.0.361 (2017 release) of Framemaker.I don't know if it's connected to my problem, but I have 2 different ID : one for the Adobe creative suite and another for the technical suite.Anybody can help me?Thanks
Scenario: We have a team member updating a FM document for product A Release 1. We have another team member updating the a copy of the same document for product B Release 2. The FM document is a common configurations document to both product A and B.Product A releases before product B. The first version of the FM document will go for product A Release 1. To ready the document for product B Release 2, I want to merge content from my copy into this.Question: A simple copy and paste would address this. But is there another smarter way to merge content from 1 .fm file into another?
Why do I get an error message stating that FrameMaker can't open the .tps file when I try to make a PDF from a .fm file. It worked originally.
Fellow Forum Members,Does FrameMaker offer a S1000D specification publishing solution that includes a Common Source Data Base (CSDB)? And outputs an Interactive Electronic Technical Publication (IETP) as well as a PDF? Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance
When I click next/previous button it navigates to next file available in book instead of Headings. My headings are properly ordered in TOC and it looks like this:As you can see the screenshot the 'Heading 1 again' topic is in the same file and next Heading 1 are separate files. So when I click next button, it skips the topic 'Heading 1 again'.I was searching some way through Style mapping option but couldn't fix.
There used to be a hot key, Esc v P I believe, that would return the user to the page containing the Xref. When testing Xrefs, it is most inconvenient to have to hunt back to the point of origin. In Reader, this ability is established with the "Previous View" icon on the tool bar. Isn't there something of the sort in unstructured FM? Don SpenceerPalmdale CA
Hi folks,I am using the 30-day trial version of FrameMaker 9 and trying to learn enough to know whether to recommend changing from Word to Frame. It's a frustrating process, but I'm making progress, though have some basic questions that I can't find the answers to.My first question is: Is there a Back button?I've managed to insert some cross-references, and eventually found that I have to use Ctrl/Alt+click to activate them, but how do I go back to where I came from? I can't find a Back button anywhere, or any reference to one in the documentation or the forum. Many thanks,Anne
When I load the URL to my HTML5 content, the iPad does not display the function bar or sidebar so there is no way to navigate the content. Any ideas?
Hi, I would like to know how to change how the word 'Table' appears next to my list of tables in a table number & page setup previously created. I am translating a Framemaker document into French so the word 'Table' need to appear as 'Tableau ..#'. I've already tried editing the variable definition for the associated Table formats in cross-reference but no luck.
Hello,I have changed the header formatting and table title formatting in both concept and task template files of the XML file something like this.I have italicized the table title and gave blue background to the table header. The same is getting reflected both in the normal DITA files and the PDF outputs. But when I publish this in HTML5 output, the formatting is not getting reproduced. The table with plain formatting is seen without blue background for the table header. I am not sure what's wrong in this. Can somebody help me how to proceed in this case?
I want to generate PDF bookmarks for text that is marked by change bars when I save as PDF from structured Framemaker 7.1. That way the proofreader can go directly to the pages that contain change bars and proof only that text.
I saw a document made in Framemaker where there was a heading followed by a body paragraph that spanned two pages, and the heading repeated at the top of the 2nd page in a smaller font with "(continued)" at the end of it, sort of like what happens with a table heading continuation variable.Does anyone know if there's a way to do this with regular headings so that it happens automatically without having to manually re-type the heading?Unfortunately I don't have the file so I can't share it or check the formatting myself.
My issue: Wrong display of a character override in the status barCreate a blank document.Open the Character Designer.Create a new tag, i.e. 'RedTest' -> All settings: 'As Is' + Color: 'Red'.Press 'Create Style'.Fill in some characters on the page, i.e. '1234567890'.Select a few characters, i.e. '567'.Character Catalog: Apply 'RedTest'.So far - so good:Select a character, i.e. '6'.In the Character Designer, change a property of 'RedTest', i.e. Size: '18 pt'.Press the 'Apply' button. In case of a character tag override: "An asterisk displays next to the character tag name in the status bar." (Matt Sullivan's 'Working with Content'). But no asterisk appears in my status bar:Who is wrong? Adobe, the book, or me?
My issue: Updating selected paragraphs globally in the paragraph designer doesn't work correctly.Create a blank document with two paragraphs: 1st paragraph format: 'Body', 2nd paragraph format: i.e. 'Heading1'.Open the Paragraph Designer.Choose the Font sheet.Commands > Set Window to As IsSelect the 1st paragraph.Font sheet > Change the Family, i.e. 'Times New Roman' to 'Arial'.Commands > Global Update Options > Use Properties in the Paragraph Designer: 'Default Font Properties Only' and Update Paragraph Formats: 'All Matching Tags in Selection'The font family in the selected 1st paragraph is correctly updated to 'Arial' (no format overrides). And the font family in the 1st paragraph's tag ('Body') is correctly updated to 'Arial', too. That's what I expected. The font family in the not selected 2nd paragraph is still 'Times New Roman' (but with a format override!).And the font family in the 2nd paragraph's tag ('Heading1') is updated to 'Arial', too! That's not what I expected.
My issue: What's happening and what should happen, when I press the 'Reset' button in the Character DesignerCreate a blank document.Open the Character Designer.Create a new tag, i.e. 'RedBoldTest' -> All settings: 'As Is' + Color: 'Red' + Weight: 'Bold'.Press 'Create Style'.Change a property of 'RedBoldTest', i.e. Size: '24 pt'.Press the 'Reset' button. The style 'RedBoldTest' is deselected (no more style in the Character Designer) and all Properties are set to 'As Is'.That's not what I expected. What should happen when pressing the 'Reset' button? The actually selected style remains in the Character Designer. The Size: '24 pt' (and only this property) is resetted to 'As Is' (the original value in the style). The other properties (Color, Weight) are not affected.Am I right or wrong?
In my reference page when it generates it adds <$paratext> <$pagenum>openXmlElementId <$relfilename>:<$UniqueXmlElementId> <$RelativeXmlElementId>openObjectId <$relfilename>:<$ObjectType> <$ObjectId>And each chapter gets a "1" beside it in the TOC. I don't want the number to appear at all. Why does it keep adding the line above when I delete it?
