FrameMaker

I want to generate PDF bookmarks for text that is marked by change bars when I save as PDF from structured Framemaker 7.1. That way the proofreader can go directly to the pages that contain change bars and proof only that text.

I saw a document made in Framemaker where there was a heading followed by a body paragraph that spanned two pages, and the heading repeated at the top of the 2nd page in a smaller font with "(continued)" at the end of it, sort of like what happens with a table heading continuation variable.Does anyone know if there's a way to do this with regular headings so that it happens automatically without having to manually re-type the heading?Unfortunately I don't have the file so I can't share it or check the formatting myself.

(Matt Sullivan's 'Working with Content'). But no asterisk appears in my status bar:Who is wrong? Adobe, the book, or me?

My issue: Updating selected paragraphs globally in the paragraph designer doesn't work correctly.Create a blank document with two paragraphs: 1st paragraph format: 'Body', 2nd paragraph format: i.e. 'Heading1'.Open the Paragraph Designer.Choose the Font sheet.Commands > Set Window to As IsSelect the 1st paragraph.Font sheet > Change the Family, i.e. 'Times New Roman' to 'Arial'.Commands > Global Update Options > Use Properties in the Paragraph Designer: 'Default Font Properties Only' and Update Paragraph Formats: 'All Matching Tags in Selection'The font family in the selected 1st paragraph is correctly updated to 'Arial' (no format overrides).And the font family in the 1st paragraph's tag ('Body') is correctly updated to 'Arial', too.That's what I expected.The font family in the not selected 2nd paragraph is still 'Times New Roman' (but with a format override!).And the font family in the 2nd paragraph's tag ('Heading1') is updated to 'Arial', too!That's not what I expected.

My issue: What's happening and what should happen, when I press the 'Reset' button in the Character DesignerCreate a blank document.Open the Character Designer.Create a new tag, i.e. 'RedBoldTest' -> All settings: 'As Is' + Color: 'Red' + Weight: 'Bold'.Press 'Create Style'.Change a property of 'RedBoldTest', i.e. Size: '24 pt'.Press the 'Reset' button.The style 'RedBoldTest' is deselected (no more style in the Character Designer) and all Properties are set to 'As Is'.That's not what I expected.What should happen when pressing the 'Reset' button?The actually selected style remains in the Character Designer.The Size: '24 pt' (and only this property) is resetted to 'As Is' (the original value in the style).The other properties (Color, Weight) are not affected.Am I right or wrong?

In my reference page when it generates it adds <$paratext> <$pagenum>openXmlElementId <$relfilename>:<$UniqueXmlElementId> <$RelativeXmlElementId>openObjectId <$relfilename>:<$ObjectType> <$ObjectId>And each chapter gets a "1" beside it in the TOC. I don't want the number to appear at all. Why does it keep adding the line above when I delete it?

I'm currently using Framemaker 2017 at home, and some of the people at the company I work for are using Framemaker 12.  If I save my work as an .fm file, will my coworkers be able to open them in Framemaker 12 with document formatting intact?

I tried editing the index.html file after the output generated. But I don't see any option there. If there is some Javascript file, please let me know how can I edit them.If it's possible within FM 2017, that would be well and good.@@

I  finally figured out how to get the reference images displayed in the generated HTML5 output. (There's a checkbox on the Images settings dialogue box.) However, they're displayed inconsistently: some are correctly displayed and some are tiny dots. Did I miss another setting for this?

I'm using FrameMaker 2017 and I'm trying to create HTML5 output.When I have a table row with more than one line of content, the HTML5 output very often (not always) adds additional space below the text.View in FrameMaker 2017View in HTML5 with unwanted (in this case grey) space below the text:This effect only occurs if I change the table width under Publish Settings: Settings > Style Mapping > Table Styles to e.g. 70% or 100% or 700pt.  If I use the default settings (no settings), the effect does not occur.This effect occurs in all tables, regardless of the number of rows and columns. If I have a table with multiple rows, the effect may occur in one line but not in the next one.

I am generating individual books as a set in HTML5 - I have a single book that contains all of the books for the project. I've generated this a few times and had no problems, but now every topic is the same name even though the HTML file name is correct. The book name is correct; the folder name is correct, but the landing page is named the same for every topic. Javascript issues?So Book\Folder\topic.html is now Book\Folder\same-name\topic.html.Has anyone seen this before?

We want to use a system variable in the header of a master page based on the value of a Title's attribute (or Context label). For instance we have a chapter made up of sections. Each section has its own title. We want to use the Title of the first section in the header of the pages. In the EDD is defined that the Title of the first Section gets a Context label H1. Should we define the Running H/F 1 like <$elemtextonly[Title:H1]> or something? Or <$elemtextonly[Title:[Type:H1]]> ??How to do this?

Is there any way to get a TblFmt from a selected Tbl which I can then use to set the TblFmt while creating a new Tbl from selected paragraphs? I am looking to convert a table to paragraphs, work on the paragraphs and then reconvert the paragraphs into a new table with the same format as previous table. I have a TextRange of selected paragraphs and am able to create a new Tbl using FCode KBD_TABLE_CONVERT but I want the new Tbl to have the same properties as the old Tbl.

Saving book containing files with SVG graphic references to XML causes FrameMaker application error and resulting error.txt file.This was seen in xdocbook by doing the following:1. Create a xdocbook file with Chapter as the top level element.2. Add a Para element to describe the chapter.3. Add a Figure element and add text to the figure Title element4. Add a Graphic element child of Figure.  Select an SVG file to insert by reference.5. Set the structured application to xdocbook and Save the Chapter.Optionally, create one or two more chapters to replicate a book but if you add graphics, don't reference any other svg files.  Use .tif or .jpg or .wmf instead.6. Go back to the first file created, with the SVG reference.  Save this file as XML.  The process should complete without error.7. I am using FrameMaker 2015 release to redesign my company's manuals. I am creating a table tag named Table_Caution. When I insert Table_Caution into a document, I want one paragraph tag to apply automatically to the top right-hand cell and another to apply automatically to the bottom right-hand cell.I've tried applying the paragraph tag to a table and then hitting Update All in the Paragraph Designer pod and also in the Table Designer pod. When I insert the table again, though, the formatting does not appear, leaving me with a blank table.  I've tried searching the forums and looking through the FrameMaker manual to no avail. Does anyone know how to preserve the paragraph tags? Thank you.

When I add a list of paragraphs and choose the RD-RefDocs tag and generate the list in my Frame book, the list shows up empty. When I click on the list file in the book, I get a dialog box saying File named "LOP" does not exist.

Hello,I have a document where I want to use discretionary hyphenation but when I enter one (CTL+ -) it does not hyphenate at the position chosen and causes surpression of hyphenation for the whole word.Why?

FM2017 does not allow you to swap out the icons - it looks like you should be able to change them as there is a Browse button next to the image name. I select my images and the file name appears in the file name, but when you click Open, the original file name is still there. Yet another nail in the coffin...

I'm taking my first, cautious steps into the world of Responsive HTML5. The default output actually looks pretty good.The problem is that it seems to be bringing in some weird, unrelated headers from somewhere that appears to be buried deep in the output template FM files. Example: Below, I searched for "control" and got a result:The weirdness is that title "Preventing Vehicle Rollover". Nowhere in the book that I used to generate this output is that title used. We have used that title before, in other documentation, but not here--it's not in the XML or the map files used to create the book. Out of curiosity, I opened the chapter output templates in Notepad++, and I found the title in a few different places, like this:and this:At one point, I tried using a "clean" chapter output template and the search titles came out as "Safety":Where are these bad titles coming from, and how do I get my HTML5 output to use the correct titles; those being "153 - Hydraulics - etc."?

Hi - I'm updating some legacy documents from FrameMaker 11 to 2017.  Unfortunately, many of the tables show up in 2017 with a cross-hatch pattern around the interior of the cells.  For example, in 11 this table:appears in 2017 as:I have two questions:I have not found a way to remove the crosshatch borders using the GUI.  How can I do this?There are thousands of these problematic crosshatch borders in our documentation.  I combed through the .mif files for the FM 11 and 2017 versions and didn’t see any significant differences that would cause this.  How can I fix this problem efficiently?Thanks for any advice.
