FrameMaker

Everytime I try to create my PDF file the TOC appears within an other section buut I want it as a first level bookmark and my LOF and LOT as second level within the TOCThank you

I have an FDK client that was developed in FM 12. While I did not test it extensively in the original release of FM 2017, it seemed to work. With the patch installed, it does not initialize (the "Cannot initialize API client ..." alert appears when I launch the patched FM 2017). Other older FDK clients initialize successfully with the patch.What has changed that would affect some clients but not others? Does this one need to be recompiled?

In FrameMaker  (Help -> About Framemaker says I'm running 13.0.1), when I click File -> Script -> New Script, nothing happens.  When I click File -> Script -> Run and select a simple script I created from the tutorial, nothing happens.  What could be wrong?  Is my install of FM not authorized to run scripts - how would I verify that's the case so I can go to my company and tell them what I need them to order?  Thanks!

Hi,I noticed that after one traversal of all paragraphs as given by function 1, framemaker gets stuck and maybe due to that I am unable to execute the while loop in the second function. Hi,I'm converting legacy docs to DITA. The conversion process is failing when there are multiple flows in a document. Even though I tried to set all the flows to the same flow using the menus in Framemaker, during the conversion process some rogues flows turn up. Many of the flows are often quite tricky to find.Is there a script to set any all flows in a document to the same flow?ThanksRonan

I copied a framemaker book and the files. The copied book is stored in a new location on my HD.  I noticed that when I updated the files in the new (copied) book  the same files in the original book were also updated.  So I renamed all the files in the copied book file and added them to the new book, then deleted all the files I copied first.  Now my new book contains files with new names.  Problem occurs  when I update the new book, I get errors as it references both the original book and the copied book location.  How can I delete the reference the system has to the original copied files?

Hello,Is there a way to allow an individual table row to break across a page?  In other words, FrameMaker appears to, by default, keep the contents of each row together on a single page.  If the row is too large to fit on a single page, then, apparently, you're out of luck.  There must be some way to override this.I'm working in FrameMaker 7.2.Thanks very much.

I have been using FM 2105 on a virtual windows machine through my mac, but have just bought a laptop to be a dedicated FM machine and have FM2017 downloaded. All linked to the dropbox files, all looks good.When I open a book, it shows all the files in the book on the left. Then when I open one of the files, the top menu bar with File/edit/view/xlst/window/help disappears. Nothing I can find an get it back.Then when I shut the file, they remain invisible until I click on the </> button whereby they all come back.I can't edit any documents as I need that menu!What's going on (or what have I missed!).

Using Adobe FrameMaker 12, I notice that after locating an item using the FIND menu, the text is highlighted, but the focus is not returned to the text window. Rather, the focus remains on the FIND dialog box.  Is there any option that can be set such that FIND restores focus to the window in which the text was found?

I have a license but the C: drive on my Windows 7 (Professional) PC was replaced. I still have the hard drive, but it's now Drive F: and I know I can't just copy the files from F:\Program Files\Adobe\FrameMaker6.0 to C:\Program Files.

The purpose of this note is to share some understanding that I recently acquired about the interaction of text frames and flows. In particular:1) Applying a master page to a body page does not affect the Room for Side Heads property of any flows on the body page.2) Importing document properties from one document to another sets Room for Side Heads in all body flows in the destination document with the same flow tag as the main flow in the source document. The property in those flows is set to the same value as in the main flow of the source document. For example, if the main flow in the source document is tagged B and the destination document has one flow tagged A and another tagged B, body flows tagged B in the destination will wind up with the same Room for Side Head setting as in the main flow of the source document. Flows tagged A on the body page and flows tagged B on master pages are not affected.3) The Text Frame page of the Text Frame Properties dialog has an area marked Flow.

In a FM2015 book file, the generated TOC show all subheadings in the previous chapter. How can this be corrected?

For some reason, figure numbering just stopped spanning chapters in my book. That is, the first figure in each chapter is labeled Figure 1. All chapters use same paragraph definitions for "Figure Caption," and that paragraph definition includes autonumbering. And when I generate an LOF file for the book, FM has no trouble finding them.This is a recent development because all the figures in the book used to be numbered correctly. I just can't figure out what changed.My figures are built this way: start with an anchored frame,  Import>File , then below the imported graphic frane itself, I insert a text frame and put the figure caption in it. I have never fiddled with any text flows in the book -- I just use whatever defaultes FM gave me As I said, this scheme used to work. Is there any way to explicitly tell FM to use continuous numbering? Cheers, JP

I use conditional tags to apply automatic updates to headers and footers using variables. The conditional tag is applied to a paragraph based on what the paragraph tag is. The condition displayed is dependent upon where it is located in the hierarchy. For instance, let's say the RED conditional tag is higher than the BLUE conditional tag, which is higher than GREEN conditional tag. I apply the RED conditional tag to the paragraph that has the Red paragraph tag applied. Could I use a script to search for the paragraph tags (e.g., Red, Blue, Green)  and apply the corresponding conditional tag? I would also want to ensure that no other conditional tags are applied to any of the text in each paragraph. Any and all help is appreciated. When I select a script from the FrameScript menu, a dialog box should appear where I can select a language to change the text inset flows in my document. This used to work on my machine, and it works on my colleague's machine, but the dialog box no longer pops up for me. But the box must be somewhere because if I press Enter, the script runs as if I selected the first option on the list.I was on FM 10 when the problem first occurred. I've since installed FM 2017, but there's no change. The box still doesn't pop up.Help? Thanks in advance. This has stumped both myself and our IT department.

Please, Oh Please!!!!!Why is there not the capacity to have a book-wide variables list? That is, why not have variables contained/defined in the Book file. When working with very large books comprised of many chapter files, having the variables list defined on a chapter file basis is a giant PITA! If I want to add or modify or remove a variable on a book-wide basis, I have to go through 20+ chapter files. It is SO VERY EASY to get chapter files in a book out of sync variable wise. Over the course of years, and half a dozen revisions, and multiple authors touching each chapter file, the variables lists become a freaking MESS! Old, residual junk in one file, not in another. Variable definitions changed in one file but not in another.There MUST be a way! (I can think of several - like have a variables list in each file, but if you are working with a book, create a composite/master list from each file in the book and attach it to the book file). I'm testing the HTML5 output of Frame 2017 and it is messing up my table formats. The tables formatted fine in HTML5 output for both Frame 12 and 2015 and I did not have to change any table mapping styles in either version. Here's a nicely formatted sample table in HTML5 from 2015:And here's how it renders in 2017. Again, I did not change any table settings in the 2017 fm files nor in the table style mapping.The other strange thing, is that the 2017 tables render correctly if I publish individual files, but look like the one above when I publish the book.
