Is there any quick way to change a linked graphic to an embedded graphic in FrameMaker? Currently using FrameMaker 10.

I just updated to patch #2 based on other crash-related posts, but I'm still crashing. I've got a landscaped file, book minimized to the left, one file open, and a large referenced Adobe Illustrator file almost filling the page. The size of the AI file is 1.65 MB. Frame seems to have trouble repainting the page. Very slow. The crash comes when I try to copy and paste a small text box from one spot to another. Frame hangs, I see "not responding" in the title bar, and then it crashes closed. I looked for the %appdata% crash log file referenced in another discussion but can't find it. How can I fix/avoid this?Susan ColmHypertherm Inc.

Why can't I find the quick access formatting icons anywhere? (justification, font size, weight etc.)

Since upgrading to FrameMaker 2015, FrameMaker crashes when we paste a text frame into a graphic frame. I work with a team of more than 20 FrameMaker 13.0.2.433 users, and we're all getting this behavior. I have tested with a new FrameMaker document to confirm that the issue isn't our templates, styles, graphics, and so on. These are the steps to reproduce the behavior:Select File > New > Document. The New window appears.Select Portrait or Landscape. (I haven't tested Custom.) A new FrameMaker document appears.Select File > Import > File. The Import window appears.Choose a graphic and click Import. The Import Graphic Scaling window appears.Select an option and click Set. The graphic appears on the page.Type a return to move the cursor to the next line.Repeat steps 3–5 to import a second graphic.Save the document.Click the Place a Text Frame button on the Graphics Toolbar.Drag out a graphic frame on top of the first graphic. The Create New Text Frame window appears.Click Set

Dear all - I'm back to my beloved project...I want to replace a found string by a TextSelction (formatted text) and started with Jang’s famous function  FindAndReplaceString.Since my replacement comes from a different document (sourceDoc)  I edited activeDoc to targetDoc and introduced a second document (sourceDoc).Actually the replacePara comes from an arry where it had been placed to avoid switching back and forth between the documents of a book (where to find and replace) and the source documents. I have learnt in another function that the information on the array requires that the sourceDoc must stay open.Of course everything works fine until I want to insert the replacelement:line 26 clears the found stringSince I do not insert a string, I skip lines 28 and 29 and try try line 30At line 30 sourceDoc is object Document and replacePare is object TextSelection. However, sourceDoc.replacePara is undefined and(as a consequence ?) line 31 pasts the current clipboard contents.O

When my FrameMaker2015 creates an AcrobatDC PDF, the output is sprinkled randomly with multiple blank pages, sometimes several in a row. How can I prevent this?

Hi,I am facing problem in inserting Xref in the document that Xref is linked to the Figure in different document. I am not getting the logic how this can be established using Extend Script. I work in Framemaker 2015. When I convert a document to pdf, some of the insertion points come across to pdf as tiny black dots. These only show up in the pdf document, not the FM file. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to get rid of this? Right now I can highlight each point and change it to plain text to get rid of it, but if there is nothing there in FM it gets frustrating to have to randomly get rid of black dots that might show up in the pdf. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi everyone. When publishing to Responsive HTML5 in Framemaker 2015, I am only achieving a flat TOC. The TOC levels work fine in Framemaker and when saving out to pdf, and the reference page appears to be set correctly. Any tips or advice?

I'm currently using the 30 day trial for FM 2015, and when i create a pdf, postscripts come out as normal size (circa 300mb), around what i would get from FM 11. If i need to do any changes in the pdf through Acrobat however, and need to run a postscript (embedding bits etc) again, the file size inflates up to around 4GB, taking about half hour-45 mins to generate. Sounds like a acrobat issue at first but i've done the same using a FM 11 file and all works as nomal, leaving me to believe its a FM15 issue. Print settings file has been carried over from 11 to 15 as well, and all settings seem to mirror each other, and when doing a usage audit in acrobat everything seems to line up.Any ideas?

When will the whole ATCS (2015 release) be compatible with Windows 10?As far as I know, now only RoboHelp is working on Windows 10. How about other tools?When trying to install the whole suite or Captivate or FrameMaker separately, I receive the following error:Restarting does not help.

Hi.I have created a Master Book, see example below, containing all the resources needed for our publications.The idea is to have the Master Book open and simply drag the source needed, as an inset, onto an empty page to create a new book.The process should be the same as the following steps, File>Import>File and then navigating to the source.Is this possible? At this stage I can only copy and drag a file from the Master Book to the new book. But the problem is that the files are still separate files.RegardsStephen

The Excel charts are saved as PDF and then imported into FrameMaker 2015, into pre-made frames. The frames act as placeholders until the PDF pages are imported. Is there a way to automatically scale the PDF pages to fit into the pre-made frames upon import?

Special TOC for documentOur component manuals have a cover, toc, body, and back cover.Our product manuals are set up by section, and have the toc, and body. Of course a cover and back cover.So my question is what is the difference in using one or the other toc:? We also have to have bookmarks and links in the toc?Just thought I would get the real reason behind which one is used for what.Thanks,LS

In Swedish we have 3 letters at the end of the alphabet, å, ä and ö (in that order). If I make a table and ask FM to sort it for me, all letters come in the right order. But if I create an index FM treats ö as an o, and å and ä as a.Is there a way to fix this? We use FM 7.2

I am working on a frame maker script and flowing from first Pgf to the last Pgf in search of selected PgfFmt. When I found the required PgfFmt I need to list the page number in which page the Pgf is present. Using Scripting I can able to find the PgfFmt but I cant able to find the actual page in which it exist.Thanks & Regards,Lohithkumar

I am generating responsive html5 output from FrameMaker. How do you add the tag <meta name="robots" content="noindex, nofollow"/> in FrameMaker so it appears in the <head> area of the .htm files in responsive html5 output? So far, I can't find a way to do it in the FM UI. Is Find/Replace in another tool , such as Notepad++, my only option?

I have a problem with opening a chapter. Whenever i try to open it, Framemaker stops responding, and i have to close it. I tried opening the chapter from book and individually as well. please help

With FrameMaker 2015. When I generate the TOC from a new .book, I get blank pages between each page of the TOC, They are completely blank not even a text frame. I click Add> Create standalone TOC. I keep the default settings. And this is what I end up with.I can get rid of them through Special> Delete Pages. But I never had to do that before the 2015 version. I have tried with older files that generated fine in Frame 10; same thing. Has anyone encountered this?

So, I've been able to fight my way up to a point to where I can search for a string, apply a para format, then replace the found string. Works great!  Thanks, Russ, for the assist...Now, does anyone know how to enter a carriage return as part of a find/replace? I've tried to just use "\r" and several combinations of that but can't figure it out. I need to find a specific text string, go to the end and enter a carriage return.Also, along similar lines, when using the find function in the UI, you can put \P (for beginning of the para) and other criteria (like \t for tab stop). Does anyone know how to use those features in script?Below is what I'm using for the search and apply formatting, just for sharing purposes, it works fine, just looking to extend features. Hello,I'm evaluating Framemaker 13 to use as a DITA publishing tool. Is there a way to add comments to the XML files through the WYSIWIG view or is that only possible through the XML view?Thanks!
