FrameMaker

Hi,This is a general ExtendScript question, but since I'm working with FM, I'll ask here first. I have a bit of a paradox here and I'm not sure of the best way to handle it.I have a dialog box with a dropdown list, where I want to refresh certain controls when the user changes the selection in the list (dropdownList.onChange). This includes refreshing the contents of the list itself. However, the problem is, as soon as I try to refresh the list contents, it triggers onChange again. So, if I put the call to refresh the box within the onChange handler, it results in an endless loop, because my refresher function triggers onChange when it refreshes the list.Does anyone know a better methodology, where I can safely trigger a refresh of a dropdown list within the list's own onChange event handler? I really wish that onChange was reserved for a user action only, or there was at least some property to that effect.Russ

"No master pages applied because the MasterPageMaps table contains no mapping information"I have no idea what this is or why it is appearing now. I never messed with this feature before. The thing is I cannot get teh first document of my book to generate correctly since this message has started to appear. In my first document I have a background image spanning the entire page. It is being used as a "cover" for a PDF output. This image vanishes everytime I try to update my book and all formmating on the page is lost.Help????I'm using FM 12 Unstructured.

Hi,FM12 all patched, unstructured, save as HTML. Why is FM 12 outputting the following in the CSS?H1.Heading2, H2.Heading2, H3.Heading2, H4.Heading2, H5.Heading2, H6.Heading2 For my Heading2 style, it creates classes for H1, H2, H3 .... This happens for other styles, too. Why? Heading2 would only be H2. Similarly Heading1 would only be H1. Can I clean this up to just be, H2.Heading2 and delete the rest?Cheers,Sean

I want to know if it is possible to color code the files in the .book hierarchy.

My goal is to modify the index marker and cross references by using the extendscript plugin.But I am not able to find any good source from where I can understand the basics of writing the plugin using extendscript.

FM 2015 (version 13.0.2.422) crashes when applying master pages in a book when the book contains a document that has no content matching a row in the MasterPageMaps table. The crash does not occur in version 13.0.1.385. The earlier version opens a log file with the confusing message "No master pages applied because the MasterPageMaps table contains no mapping information." This message appears if the table contains mapping information, but a document in the book happens not to use any of the indicated elements or paragraphs.       --Lynne

I inherited a Frame doc created with structured frame - I can see items tagged as Product Version, etc., but when I go to change the actual text, it doesn't let me. I know it's a basic question, but it is frustrating me. So far, the only way I can change it is by switching to unstructured frame. How did the previous author define these fields? For example, I want to change <ProductVersion>123456<ProductVersion> to <ProductVersion>123457<ProductVersion>.

In FrameMaker 12 I am trying to publish a page with text and images tagged with conditions to WebHelp. The result is all images being put on separate lines and centered, even when there are images in the middle of sentences. This does not occur with anything that does not have any conditions at all.I stumbled on this in FrameMaker when trying to figure out why this is occuring when I generate WebHelp in RoboHelp using linked FrameMaker files.Everything looks fine when I publish to PDF.Any pointers would be appreciated.

Can anyone recommend materials like books, videos, or web tutorials for learning FrameMaker that are aimed at beginners? The only book on FrameMaker I could find on Amazon that's been published in the last couple of years is intended to be a reference for experienced FrameMaker users. Everything on the Adobe site seems to be on very specific FrameMaker topics, presented in no particular order, and there are overviews of new features, but nothing to orient a new user. The most recent Classroom in a Book on FrameMaker is for Version 11. I'm inclined to get a copy of that, but I don't know how much may be missing from it.In case it's helpful, my situation is that I'm interested in a career change to become a technical writer, and I've completed a Technical Writing certificate program at the local community college, but there was no exposure to FrameMaker in that course series.Thanks in advance for any suggestions.Andy

FrameMaker is not in the application of the cloud, how to install it?

In FrameMaker 2015 I cannot find the option to prevent me from entering two spaces after a period. Sure I can get the spell check to fix it afterwards but there was an option previously to convert those double spaces to single spaces while I type. I think this also worked in the middle of a sentence too.ThanksGerry

Is there any way i could open these using Frame 11 (or 2015) pls?At the moment, I dont have either versions available and hence tried to download a free eval version from the Adobe site.That attempt didnt go well. As you know, the Element Catalog lists available elements preceded by an annotation symbol that indicates whether a particular type of element is valid at the current location. The annotations  are:Heavy checkmark: the element is permitted at the current locationLight checkmark: the element is permitted, but something else must precede itCheckmark combined with a plus sign: the element is permitted and defined as an inclusionQuestion mark: the element is permitted but other changes must be made as wellNo annotation: the element is not permittedThe Smart Catalogs for inserting, wrapping, or changing an element display the available elements usually preceded by one of the same annotations. In FM 2015, however, no annotation appears before an element permitted as an inclusion. FM 12 all patched up, Windows 8.1.I have a book with about 30 FMs. When I Save book as HTML, I end up with one HTM file. I want the same number of HTM files as FMs. What am I missing.Note, I expect each FM to produce an HTM, but that doesn't happen. I have the reference page HTML table set to create a new page on Heading1, and I use Heading1 as the first heading in each FM.Thoughts?Sean

The PDF images load into Framemaker and everything looks fine, there are also JPEG images and TIFs contained within the book. The book builds ok, but when we try to print the book to PDF we get errors. When the PDF images are swapped for dummy images the book will print to PDF or if we substitute JPEGS and TIFs for the PDF images the book will print to PDF.The PDF images were produced in Illustrator CC and on average are about 90K in size.The error we get is as follows: 'Error EF get textframe on page with name - Invalid page identifier'Error opening PDF file for "MF_set_pdf_view_bookmark"D\EXPORT\figures\book title.pdfI am the illustrator who produced the PDF images for our Authoring department, we have just recently upgraded to Windows 7 PC's, Framemaker 11 and the complete Adobe Creative Cloud Suite. Even though I have the latest version of Illustrator, my external graphic illustrator does not. So I have continued to use Illustrator CS6 to edit my imported vector images, which are eps format.Recently, something in FM changed (probably an update from Adobe) so that it now opens Illustrator 2015 when I double click the eps image. This only occurs in FM (still using FM10). My Windows file manager still has it's file association with my desired version of Illustrator.I searched the maker.ini file for Illustrator and the eps file extension but they all seemed to be related to imports.Any ideas where I can associate the executable of the "Edit with Illustrator" command to the version I want?

Hi,(FM2015, Windows 7, structured documents)I have yet to figure out how to get automatic runaround (or better yet, automatically-adjusted line spacing) for an "At Insertion Point" anchored frame. Is this possible? See the sample pic... the anchored frames always overlay any surrounding content. Can this be fixed? The runaround properties of the graphic inside don't seem to change anything. Dear All,  Can we translate document having an extension as .Fm or .MIF from English to Spanish, Portuguese, or Italian languages by using Adobe FrameMaker Software.  Is there any procedure available within FrameMaker Software  to convert the English language into multiple languages. I am trying to search the solution from the last two day, but unable to find it.   Still Searching for a solution.

In order to automate the generation of customised user document (PDF) by enabling Ditaval-based filtering based on the item code. We need to launch FrameMaker and run the script by passing arguments such as Source (containing Ditamap, Topics, images), Ditaval file and output path for PDF on command line to generate customised document (PDF).

Every time I've tried to explore Adobe products I get discouraged because the written material and video clips are confusing. I tried using Photoshop on a trial basis once and could not even get into creating something simple - it is not intuitive at all.Now, I am exploring the possibility of adopting a program to import all our training manuals and PowerPoint presentations in order to make updated versions and create new material. The ease of use and confidence is not flowing toward me with FrameMaker even though the website and YouTube videos trash Microsoft Word. Who's going to convince me that I should pursue FrameMaker?Joe

I just upgraded to Technical Communication Suite 2015. I had previously created a RoboHelp project in RH11 from imported FM12 books/files. I would now like to reverse import the entire project back into FrameMaker 2015 since it can now generate Responsive HTML. My main goal is to maintain the RH11 look and feel of the generated HTML help.My initial attempt did not quite work. I exported the *.slz file from my RH 11 project and imported it into the FM 2015 file. The result has extra images that were not part of the original RH11 generated HTML, including browse sequence buttons not used in the RH11 project.Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
