FrameMaker

The cover page for our product manuals has (as you'd expect) a different title and picture for each product, and uses a text inset for the standard disclaimers. In just one instance, I've saved as .pdf and ended up with a file where the disclaimer text is not searchable and cannot be selected; but text below the inset (same page) behaves as normal. Any ideas?

9.0p255 on XP ...  Just searched the forum for a reminder, as it's not every day I need to work with insets. A couple of posts towards the top of a long thread gave the tip of leaving a special space between the anchor for the inset and the end-of-paragraph marker; "ah, that sounds familiar!" I thought, and tried it.  Well, it may sound familiar ... but it doesn't work. Yes, I've already tried a special paragraph style with space above and below set to -2; no luck there either. All the more annoying since I'm fairly sure I did manage to do it in another file-set/on another PC last year.  Thanks in advance for any tips!

I'm cross-referencing headings in a table. Everytime I cross-reference, the font changes to a different font (Times Roman). Fonts in the table cells is a 9 pt Georgia font and the heading font is 16 pt Source Sans Pro. The xref format is <Blue><paratext>. Does anybody know what's causing the font to change when cross-referenced? Really need help!

I read the previous discussion thread and clearing up temp files and updating to most recent version did NOT work. This error continues to shutdown multiple files.How do I resolve???

Hi, I am attempting to upgrade to FM2015. I have a structure app (not DITA) that includes an XSLT stylesheet. Every time I save an XML file, the console pod pops up with something like the following:Save as XML LogSource Document: C:\documentation\command_manuals\tl1_source\a.xmlDestination Document: C:\documentation\command_manuals\tl1_source\a.xmlXSLT Processor MessagesTransformation Successful.Can I stop this from happening? I don't need to know that there weren't any problems. The console is intrusive and interferes with my work.This behavior started in FM12 and actually caused me to stay with FM11. It is incredibly aggravating and a show-stopper for any serious XML author in my situation. You can size down the pod and nearly hide it somewhere, but then you miss any error messages that are important. I really hate the idea of remaining stuck on FM11 again due to this issue.Thanks,Russ

I have created a FrameMaker template.  It works in ever way except for the fact that it does not automatically generate new body pages as they are needed.  What do I need to change to make this happen?

See the file FM-biblio-collected-test.fm.This contains 4 paragraphs in the first part and 3 paragraphs in the second part.Reading pgfs in the first part works perfectly. These all start with [[   (script lines 10 ... 26)The first pgf of the second part (paragraph number 5) is already read, terminating the first While loop due to missing [[ at the beginning.Further processing of this paragraph (script lines 27 ... 35) reveals that not paragraph 5, but paragraph 1 is processed! Hello everybody,When I start FM 2015 (part of TCS 2015), I get a dialog box saying: Adding information can unintentionally change or delete values and cause components to stop working correctly. If you do not trust the source of this information inC:\Users\Carel\AppData\Local\Temp\frmreg.reg, do not add it to the registry.Are you sure you want to continue?  Can anybody tell me what this registry entry is for?Thank you in advance for any feedback.Regards,Carl

I have an issue with the figure numbers in FM12. I am trying to get a figure number output that looks like this: Figure 1.1-1.  My figure numbers are based on the headings.     Heading 1 input: S: <$chapnum>.    Heading 1 output: 1.     Heading 2 input: S: <$chapnum>.<n+>< =0>   Heading 2 output: 1.1    Figure input:  F:Figure <$chapnum>-<n+>:   Figure output: Figure 1-1:    For example, if Heading 2 is 1.3 then the figure number should be 1.3-1. If Heading 2 is 6.4 then the figure number should read Figure 6.4-1.     Does anyone know how to do this?

I probably ought to know this, but have never run into it before – I want to pull the month and year from the file timestamp for a not-too-fine-grain indication of when the file was last updated. A bit to my surprise, creating a user variable with <Default ¶ Font><$monthname><$year> doesn't work: it just inserts <$monthname<$year as a literal. Hints and tips welcome!

I have Framemaker 12 running happily on Windows 8.1. In upgrading to Windows 10, the installer said it would remove my Framemaker 12 installation since it wasn't compatible with Windows 10, so I stopped the installation. Any thoughts?

After I insert Table>Title>Tbody into my structure and choose a Table Style, FrameMaker presents the columns and rows as selected. But, when I tab through the cells, select columns and resize, etc. - sometimes it works and sometimes FrameMaker just locks up (no keyboard or mouse control), then closes. Has anyone else seen this?

I have the TCS 2015, and have only installed FrameMaker, none of the other software programs in the suite are installed.Acrobat DC is installed from my subscription to the Creative Cloud.In FrameMaker 2015, choosing File > Save as PDF, I get an error message:"There was an error opening this document. The file cannot be found."Double-clicking on the PDF file in Distiller, which shows zero seconds, a message appears "Cannot open this file." No log file is created.In FrameMaker I'm able to print to a PostScript file using File > Print and selecting the Adobe PDF print driver, and then I'm able to create a PDF by opening the .ps file in Distiller.I would appreciate any suggestions how to make the FIle > Save as PDF command work correctly and produce a PDF in FrameMaker 2015.

Hi,When installing Framemaker again after formatting my pc, I encounter following message: "It appears that the default FM-DITA support is still installed. Working with both DITA-FMx and the FM-DITA plugin installed will cause bad things to happen". How can I solve this issue? Hello alltogether - simple question: I do use the Adobe Master Collection via CC, Framemaker is not included? Is it possible to use FrameMaker for short period only ( got a bunch of files for temporary use, purpose > print)? Thnx!

Hi all!I'm currently designing FM12 templates for an IFU project.I've ran into a problem concerning TOCs and lists for graphics and tables:I have numbered the Graphics and Tables with <$chapnum> and <n+> in the EDD, so e.g. the full title of a table is: "Tab. 2–1: Insert text here".I now want to use the numbering format in a separate table list document at the beginning of the book. The list should look like that:Tab. 1–1: Insert text here............................1Tab. 1–2: Insert text here............................2Tab. 2–1: Insert text here............................2Tab. 3–1: Insert text here............................4I have got everything working except the numbering format in the beginning. <$elemparanum> doesn't work in numbering formats or on the reference page. <$chapnum> only displays the chapter number of the table list.Any suggestions how to generate the numbering? To edit the numbering everytime I update the book is not a feasible option.Than

Hello all,I am trying to come up with a script, if possible, that will allow me to create a mouse over window or tooltip. The window/tooltip will only contain text, and I want it to work when the book.fm is made into a PDF. Any advice on how to do this would be appreciated.Thank you.

I have 17 conditional tags in my book. Is there a way to select multiple tags to either add or remove?Thanks.

I wan to delete a bunch of unused conditional tags that were introduced via a template. If I try deleting the tags using the book level,  FM crashes every time. If I try to use all open documents, bulk delete does not work either and I end up deleting the tags individually anyway. So if I open 10 docs, I have to delete each unused tag 10 times.Any suggestions?I am also trying to teach FM to a colleague and find that I have more workarounds for features that don't work then straightforward using the product. The usability of this product gets worse with each release.Thank you

Where can I find the FM 12 install files? I see all the 4 updates, but not the original downloads that I need to re-install after a computer crash forced me to do a clean install of Windows ....The links I have found in some of the other posts do NOT work ... even after I log in, etc.Z

I am creating a quick reference guide for our templates to show what paragraph tag to select to get the steps/paragraphs to look a certain way. Right now I am having to select the tag, then type the paragraph tag name next to it.Is there a way for FM to print the paragraph tag name automatically? That way I could take an existing document, turn on that feature, print it out, and make a PDF, have the quick reference guide showing the tags.
