FrameMaker

Hi all,Have any of you made use of assigning Object Styles in the EDD?  We have tried this and don't, apparently, have the proper elements to do so. We are using xDocbook based on the default EDD that shipped with Frame 7.0  🙂  I tried looking at the default Docbook EDD that comes with Frame 12, but it doesn't have the right elements either - I think these are InsetStyle, AnchoredFrame and AnchoredFrameStyle.  I found them in the Dita EDD, but when I tried to import them into my existing xDocbook EDD, they are obviously not in the DTD/schema so still do not work.Do you know if this is actually fully supported in Frame 12 or 2015?  The Frame 12 Structure Dev Guide says that you just insert an InitialObjectFormat element, then insert the object style using either InsetStyle for a simple graphic, or AnchoredFrameStyle for an anchored frame. However, these elements don't exist in our EDD or DTD.Does anyone know of a workaround or how this should actually wo

I have some Extendscript that opens a document, locates a graphic, and selects it. The image is selected, as evident by the image details showing in Object Properties. Problem is, Framemaker doesn't scroll the window to show the selection.So far, the only way I've been able to get Framemaker to jump to the right location is by selecting the text around the graphic, then using my keyboard I press the arrow keys to jump to the location. Then I manually select the graphic. This worked for our needs at first, but now for other scripts I really need to be able to have the image selected and visible on screen. I even tried selecting the text around it, using fcodes to simulate the keyboard arrow keys, and then selecting the graphic, but Framemaker still didn't update what part of the document it was showing on screen.This is my current function. Hi all,I'm having some difficulty getting my EDD to properly format based on XML attributes. FYI, you cannot create an expression for use with Filter by Attribute unless the document contains an instance of each attribute mentioned. In particular, you cannot store such expressions in a template unless the template contains elements with the necessary attributes. If you want to provide users with an empty template and predefined attribute expressions, you can give them empty body pages, and put elements with the needed attributes on a reference page.     --Lynne

In recent posts on Filter by Attribute, I have neglected to mention that hidden attributes cannot be used in filter expressions. I have encountered situations where I've had to instead make attributes read-only even though end users would not otherwise need to be aware of them.           --Lynne

Just installed Frame2015. Have heard of Bridge and would like to add the capability to our process. Can Adobe Bridge be used with FrameMaker2015? Is it part of the FrameMaker install?

We're seeing an intermittent problem in using the Search capability in our HTML5 help. I couldn't find this issue in the forum, but it could have been bad search terms used.We use a WPF control to open our help website within our software. It uses a browser that seems similar to IE, but according to the devs here, it is not actually IE or Chrome, it's a different browser. When the help is viewed in this WPF browser, the search function returns unexpected behavior. Occasionally, when you click on a search result link the page that loads is the page that you were viewing prior to clicking the Search button, instead of the actual search results. So, for example, if you were looking at topic A, then perform a search and click on a search result for topic B, topic A loads. This seems to happen more often for pages that had not previously been viewed in the browser, and only intermittently (I'd say maybe one time out of 10?).When viewed in Chrome and Firefox, we do not see this behavior at a

FrameMaker 10 and patched || Windows 7 64-bitOur company is migrating from unstructured to structured DITA XML.  We had not encountered any "showstoppers" that would keep us from proceeding...until we tried producing FM Book files for our print offerings.  It's my understanding that to take advantage of FrameMaker's numbering and pagination features using DITA source content, one must create a DITA map and save it out as a FM Book file, first.  However, when we do this—and subsequently try to print it like a "normal" book—all of our DITA <title> elements remain at the highest heading level.  In other words, each topic, which lives in a hierarchical structure inside any one of the DITA sub-maps, will always take on the paragraph style of .  My topic titles don't nest; everything is at a "flat" level!   Interestingly enough, they nest correctly if I print directly from a DITA map and not from a hybrid DITA+FM book file.  But if I take that ro

Would I use markers or elements?

We are going to use CMS 'Teamcenter'/'Alfresco' and to use FrameMaker for their authoring and publishing tool.We know that Teamcenter is certified with FrameMaker7 for authoring and FrameMaker8 for publishing. But, there are very very old version of FrameMaker.We just want to know that if FrameMaker 2015 version can integrates with Teamcenter or Alfresco.

Hello ,If I want to Find & Replace, how can I ask Find & Replace to search for something with a non-breaking space?For example, 250_kg (_ being the non-breaking space) that needs to be replaced by 400 lb.

It would be great if FrameMaker would allow two separate  views of variables one for system variables and another for user variables. It could be a tabbed item on the variable pod or at least sectioned in the variable view. Otherwise one spends a lot of time searching around for user variables that are inserted among all the system variables in alphabetical order.   Another feature that would bring FrameMaker into a vast range of technical writing would be to create a pod for Database  document creation giving Framemaker the ability to connect to a database via ODBC and import or map table rows into the user variables. This should have always been a feature in FrameMaker but we are all still waiting for it and spending a fortune in programming and special programs just for something all of the major desktop publishers have like wordperfect..  I mean where is even a mail merge in frameMaker yet you are touting framemaker as a replacement for Word with respect t

Hi,I'm a new user of FrameMaker, but have used Arbortext for the past three years. I've just wasted my entire morning trying to figure out how to change my conref color from blue to black. (blue? why blue? and why no simple way to change it?). I am working with FrameMaker 12 and RoboHelp 11 in Tech Comm Suite 5. I am new to linked projects and want to author in FrameMaker (my existing files are unstructured) and then generate WebHelp in RoboHelp. I’m confused about options for including hyperlinks in my project and would appreciate any advice.I have around 1200 HTML files whose content I want to make available to customers. The content of these files changes from version to version, but the file names generally do not. I also have to maintain several versions. So, on my server, I have versioned folders that contain different versions of identically named files.Originally, I thought I would just insert hyperlinks into my FM files. That way, both PDFs (from Frame) and my generated WebHelp (from Robo) would have the links. However: I can’t Find/Replace content in the hypertext markers in FrameMaker, so I can’t easily update the links to call a new version. Hi,I've just started using FM 2015, unstructured. Windows 8.When I update the book, I get an error message saying there's an unresolved cross reference. When I open the chapter and search for Unresolved Cross-Reference using the Find dialog, it comes back Not Found. I even searched the entire book and it didn't find any unresolved cross references. Hi all,I'm a previous Flare user (please be nice ) who now finds themselves using Framemaker 9 .I'm used to using conditions and multiple TOCs etc to create multiple manuals from one source, so am now trying to recreate these processes in FM. I have tried to use the FM online help, and am slowly learning how to get things done, but am now turning to the expert community for tricks and tips.Is there any simpler process of "printing" multiple outputs from one book other than:Set "show/hide conditional text" view settings in one document......import these settings across all documents in a book...print book......repeat for each version.It might seem like I'm making a fuss here but when working with multiple conditions and outputs, repeating that for each version of a document is tedious and leaves plenty of room for human error! I'm used to just clicking "build" on a previously constructed set of conditions. Hoping there's an insider tip to help me achieve something similar here.Many than

Firing up FM for another happy and productive day, and I see that the ? pods – interface components down the right-hand edge – have changed. I've explored the various options (Authoring, Review and so on) and none of these matches what I've been used to seeing; also, some of them (for example, XML/Structured) are empty.What's more, Adobe Caslon Pro has mysteriously become unavailable!Any hints or tips?

Hello! So I'm trying my best to create accessible content in our manuals. Our paragraph tags are a bit messy and would require lots of retro-tagging and customization for generating accessible-friendly PDFs. The HTML Mapping Table is exactly what I need in this instance, to map our custom tags to simple HTML tags when read by a screen reader. However, my understanding is that the HTML mapping table is only used when saving as an HTML document. Is there any way, when saving a PDF, that the tags generate based on the information found in the HTML Mapping Table instead of setting the logical order in the Save As PDF > Tags window? Is there any relationship there? Thanks!

Hello fellows,I wonder if there is a way in ES to launch an external application (e.g., Acrobat) with a specified path to the PDF file?I read about cross-DOM functions in the JS tools guide, but it's not clear where is the shared start up folder where a script with a call to acrobat.open should be put. Tried everything, it simply refuses to do so!It's a nine chapter book, easily generates index, but the TOC is weird, as it will not read either Chapter number or Chapter title. At most it will incorporate a single kine or two. For example a heading "Bibliography" and another text line from somewhere else! I believe something is corrupted in my FM12 which used to produce TOCs well. Is there any way to check this?

Multiple people have tried to add "survey's" to the dictionary since Frame says this is misspelled, but when trying to add Frame won't allow.
