FrameMaker

I have about 50 .fm files, and 4 .book files, each of which includes about 20 of the .fm files.I want to rename some of the files.If I open all four .book files at once, and I go to First.book and rename file Q, I want it to be renamed in all the other .book files in which it happens to be included.How can I do that?Thanks.

In the FDK Programmer's Guide, it says<quote>  Compiling and registering your own FDK clients....With Code Generation still selected, choose Single-Threaded from the Runtime Librarypopup list.</quote>However, in Visual Studio, there are only 4 options for Multi-threaded and no option for Single-threaded.  I'm running Visual Studio Express 2010, v10.0.30319.1.  The instructions are quite detailed, so I think I am looking in the correct place.Any suggestions?

(FM12.0.3)I love the concept of the Currently Opened Files pod.If I specify all-files and then select save-and-close, or close without saving, FM asks me to confirm the save (or not) for each individual file.Likewise, if I specify all-files and then clear the option boxes for a couple of files in the list, FM asks me to confirm the save (or not) for each file.Perhaps I misunderstand the intent of this feature.Does an option exist, perhaps through Preferences, for me to tell FM to omit confirmation from this pod?(Yes, the keyboard shortcut for confirm-yes or confirm-no is rather quick.)Best,

Is it possible to roll back from an FM12 patch?For example, if I install 12.0.4 on 12.0.3, then decide I do not like it because it breaks something that I need, can I roll back to 12.0.3?Or if not roll back, can I accomplish the same goal by installing 12.0.3 on top of 12.0.4?Got the general idea?Best,

Why there is no combined font can be selected in "Replace With" field?

(Unstructured FM12 on Win7, but this probably predates FM12).Does a thread exist for this in another forum?I see inconsistent behavior of cross references. In FM, Ctrl+Alt-click consistently works.In the pdf, clicking on some cross references works while others are dead.When I delete all content of the source FM file, save, and then create two simple new targets and cross-references to them, behavior in FM and the pdf is as expected. No dead links.When I create a new FM file from one of the blank templates, then create two simple new targets and cross-references to them, behavior in FM and the pdf is as expected, like in the previous example. Hoping someone can help me. I'm using:Framemaker 11Documentum 6.5 emc-dfs-sdk-6.5Java JRE 1.5.0_22. Importing small books works fine, but when I import large books from my local filesystem to Documentum, after a couple minutes (exact time varies), I often get a "502 bad gateway" error.  For a given book, the error seems to happen in the same place every time, but some books get further than others. Small books import fine, and if I remove half the contents from larger books (doesn't matter which half), they will generally finish importing. The resulting folder structure often has most of the files (except the book) and virtual documents are not yet assigned. Occasionally the book will even import, but it doesn't have any virtual documents assigned. I suspected a timeout issue, but toying with UCF timeout in the ucf folder didn't seem to help. I've also tried the import from different/faster machines and had the same result. Is there any debugging I can do to figure out what's goin

When printing to a PDF page larger than your FM document, try this:Use File > Print Book, set up your printer for Adobe PDF and 11x17 (or whatever your preferred page size is), and deselect Generate Acrobat Data. Turn on Registration marks if you like. Then, print, and the book should print, centered, on the larger page size.Hope this helps somebody.

Hi,I have a bleed on one edge of my page. I can extend the image 1/8 inch off the page, but am uncertain whether doing so will produce the desired result for the print vendor because I cannot see it in FM12. Am distributing a PDF, is this the best way to set up a bleed?

Tried installing Contribute 6.5 as an indipendent application and was able to install it but the moment it launches, it hangs and need to be closed from the Task Manager. It freezes the screen.Tried launchin offline (disconnecting it from the internet).Uninstalled all adobe applications and did tried with hidden admin mode.Tried with different user as well.

I have the standalone FM 12 running in unstructured mode on WIndows 7. I created a few custom workspaces and have been using those and some of the built-in workspaces. Today I was working in a book file and noticed that the Workspace somehow changed to "None." and all the workspaces are missing from the dropdown menu. Any idea how I can get my Workspaces back?Thanks.

I downloaded the Akamai download manager, now I am trying to download a trial version of Framemaker 12. I click on "Resume the download process", the download manager window opens but the file does not start downloading. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Last week Adobe support helped me download and install the Techncial Communication Suite. However today I want to use FrameMaker and RoboHelp and I can't figure out how to open the applicaitons. Please help me. I have been trying to get started for three weeks.

Hi,I have Adobe Technical Communication Suite 3.0, which has FrameMaker 10.0.2.249 in it.I created a user guide in FrameMaker, some of the chapters for which I imported from Word, and little bits of text here and there of which I copied and pasted from Word.a) When I created a RoboHelp project and imported the Frame files, a little bit of content disappeared. A sentence here, a bulleted item there, not all the content I copied and pasted.b) I thought I would save the Frame files as .MIF and then reopen them in Frame to get rid of any corruption. They saved as .MIF just fine and they open again with Frame just fine. However, when I try to Save As .FM, I get the message that .MIF cannot be saved as .FM.I checked the extension in the Save As box and it has no mention of .MIF.What to do? Any suggestions either for a) or b)?

Hello, I am currently trying out FrameMaker 12, in particular its ability to publish directly to HTML Help.I cannot seem to get the Glossary feature to do anything at all. I have added "GlossaryTerm" markers to a few words in my Frame source, and added a glossary entry to the Marker Text.In the Publish dialog, I've selected HTML Help, clicked Edit Settings, and in the Publish Settings dialog, I've selected the Style Mapping tab > Other Settings, and in the Glossary panel, I've made sure that the Marker Type is set to "GlossaryTerm" and I've tried all the Style options (Hyperlink, Tooltip, Popup, etc...) But when I generate my HTML Help, I don't see anything happening for the words I've added GlossaryTerm markers too. No hyperlinks, tooltips, popups or anything.Any suggestions as to what I'm doing wrong?I know there was a bug about this in the initial Frame 12 release, but the evaluation copy I'm running is Frame 12.0.1.331.

(FM12 on Win7)When attempted to update the book, clicking the icon or using Edit > Update book, the dialog box does not appear but FM responds as if it has appeared.If I click anywhere on the FM interface, the Win7 sounds tells me that I clicked in a wrong place.If I press Escape, focus returns to the book.Under Edit > Preferences > Global > Interface, all of the Pods option boxes are clear.What next?

Hi All,I've been using DITA OT to create online help up until now. Now I would lie to try the WebHelp that FM12 enables me to produce from a DITA map (I mean the one that is available through File > Publish menu). So my initial questions are:1. I have about 10  table styles in a document and I want to replace all of them with the #1 table style. Can this be done with Find and Replace?

Is there a way to print out, for example, all the paragraph format with their formatting details? I'd like the same for character formats, conditional text etc.?I'm a long time FrameMaker use and have built numerous templates over the years. The one thing I always found missing was the ability to printout a list of the various formats so that you can review them (much more easily one at a time on screen) to make sure they all have the correct settings. MS Word, back in the DOS days, had this capability and it was fast and efficient way of double checking all the formatting.Does this functionality exist in FrameMaker? Or are there any utilities out there that would do this?Thanks,Inge
