Can you create numbered steps that have circles around the numbers, and if so, can you specify the font for the number in the circle?

Hi All,First of all, apologies for the cheesy screen name I am an IT developer at an MNC in India and want to move to technical writing. I do have a brief formal technical writing experience before and have published an engineering course ware book too. I have good MS Word authoring skills, but I have never worked with FrameMaker.Now I want to learn FM, from scratch!.Can anybody here point me to a good source for a complete FM newbie? Hello all,In my web docs output, I want to include a footer that allows the reader to submit docs improvement feedback.Can this be accomplished with the following criteria:Instead of a simple "mailto:" link (which more commonly fails b/c more people use webmail clients), is it possible to link to a form (perhaps via a FM plugin)?If possible to use a form, is it also feasible to auto-populate the form with the originating page information?The docs will be published on a server that supports php... but ideally, it isn't in my budget to purchase any special document server/collaboration tool(s) in order to accomplish this goal.Thank you,Doug

How do select text in two or more different places?

In my document, I use many text frames within anchored frames.  Without my knowledge of having done anything, all of my text frames now have side heads within them.  So all of the text that I entered has disappeared.  See example below.   I can see it if I stretch the text frame large enough.  See below:Now, when I create new text frames with text within them, they look fine.  They maintain their proper formatting.  But all of the ones created before a few days ago look like above.In addition, the footer changed formatting w/o my doing anything.  The left side of the footer moved in to the left to the column margin, as if there was supposed to be a side head in the formatting of the footer text box.  I imported page formatting from another document and this problem corrected itself.Thank you.

We have the Tech Comms Suite 2 that comes with FrameMaker 9. We are slowly getting away from FrameMaker but still have some documents that we maintain with Frame. However, we would like to upgrade Acrobat to XI. Does anyone know if Acrobat XI is compatible with FrameMaker 9? We are on Windows 7...if that helps.

Hi,So, we have a document (1000+ pages long) with hundreds of help topic IDs that were auto generated when the document was first created. We now need to access certain sections of the documents and make updates, but the only point of reference given is the help topic ID. Is there a way in which we can extract the help topic IDs along with the heading name, or at least view where each help topic ID is?Best regards,Anshuman

In FM 8 (Windows XP), how can you show a specific condition (A) when it is the only condition applied to a block of text? I have some text that has two conditions applied (A+B), and I want that text hidden. I've tried different approaches in the Build Expression dialog box, but get an "Invalid expression" message no matter what I try. What I need Frame to do is "Show A NOT A+B." We're going to newest version of FM later in the year, so if this cannot be done in FM 8, can it be done in the current version of FM? Thank you for your help.

I have 2 Questions, they are both related to Table:1. In one of my document, a Table Anchor starts on Top Of The New Page, I do not know why (in paragraph tag, it is not set to Anywhere).Next, the rest of the page is blank, and Table starts on the following page, should not Table be displayed in the next line from the Table Anchor?2. I also have another table which is Multi-pages long. In this table some of the rows are split between pages (obviously because it is multi-page long table), however, top row on Page 2 (which is only 3 lines) could have easily fit on Page 1 (which is half blank), but I do not know why FM8 and FM12 is splitting rows in this manner. Any response will be appreciated. Thank You.

I work for a government facility where I'm required to convert procedures from Word into FrameMaker adding supplementary content like photos and videos. I've been inserting the picture and video files and they show up fine within the FM document, but once published to responsive HTML 5 and I view the output, the photos show up with no caption that I added in, and no videos show up whatsoever. I added seperate text frames within the document to insert "captions" for the photos and video and they all get pushed to the bottom of the HTML page. For the life of me, I can't figure out a way to get the videos and photos to simply show up on HTML the way they do in FrameMaker. Any ideas or suggestions to what it is I'm doing wrong?Thank you so much!

I am using Framemaker  11Normally for a standard index for a book, I add a tab before the separator placeholder (1, 2-3) to achieve the following  format of my index. The tab is added in the reference page before the "1, 2-3" and it translates back to the Body page and then by easily applying the paragraph format I can add a dotted line (see results below)Text flow (notice the tab before "1, 2-3"Result achieved with shown formattingHowever, when I try do the same for a stand-alone index of makers, it does not happen. I can add the tab in front of separator placeholder "1, 2-3" but it doesn't translate back to body page. Is there a way to acheive the same formatting (right tab with dotted lines) for a stand alone index of markers?

I am using FrameMaker 11. For the past couple of days, the formatting of my files keeps changing, without me making the change.  For example, today, as I made edits to a file but did absolutely nothing to the table formatting, all of my tables lost their titles.  Other types of things like this have been going on for a few days.  The side-head alignment keeps coming and going.  Text frames (for my figure callouts that are placed within anchored frames) all take on side-head alignment. Today I realized that it was not just one file, but any FrameMaker file.  Does anyone know if a fix?  It seems like there is something corrupt going on.  Should I repair, re-install?  thank you.

Is it possible to delete the footing row in a table that's already been created? I don't see anything in the Table Designer that allows me to do that. (I'm using FM 11).Alan

Hello, I am using FM12 on Windows 7 (running on parallels on an Apple MacBook Pro). I need to save some documents under different file names and found the "save as" command is not selectable. Could this be a special program setting or am I making a mistake?

Hi Adobe community,I have been assisting a user with this FrameMaker 9 issue that has been returning many many times. When she launches FM9, she gets an Internal Error. The workaround is to rename the Linguistics folder to something else relaunch FrameMaker 9 which will create a new Linguistics folder. However, the issue returns almost every month and we are not sure why. Any advice on how to prevent the Linguistics folder from being corrupted?One thing to note is that the user has FrameMaker 7.2 and FrameMaker 10 installed concurrently. While aware that some error messages in no wise indicate a genuine problem … I always prefer to keep my source files clean and my error logs empty. So, I'm a bit peeved that the latest irritation appears to be a present from FrameMaker; even more so that it is intermittent and (for me) unpredictable – but since I've started posting I may as well finish:The "font not found" message when I try to create a .pdf refers to Stag-Book. Printing to PDF crashes FM12 every time - I lose work even though it's saved before printing the book - specifically the TOC.I've installed the patch for 12.0.2 but the crashes are more than annoying and seem to have happened after installing the patch.

It asks me for a serial number, which I entered. Then the computer asks me to allow program to make changes to the computer, which I allow. Then nothing happens.
