Hi, i have been reading a lot of the posts about using the CleanImport plugin for fixing formatting issues of older files. The site mentioned is no longer valid. is there a new place to get this plugin for Framemaker 11?Or if not, is there another way to clean out formats and do batch updates to entire books of clean formats?thanks!Carey

Hello community,I have a project which is turning out to be quite a challenage. I'm hoping someone might have an idea of a creative solution. I use Tech Comm Suite 4.Here's the project. I have field guide which our company maintains in Fm. The content of the book is aligned with a set of specifications. Basically the specification provides guidance about what must be done and the objectives for a myriad of tasks. Our field guide says how those tasks are performed. Here's an example. The specification says that the drain on an air conditioner must be water-tight, with the objective being that the drain does not leak. Our field guide says how to properly install the drain to achieve that specified outcome. My customers that use our field guide are now required to prove and document alignment between the field guide procedures and the corresponding specification.My first attempt was rather cumbersome and would not easy to maintain. I created a book with a cover page, a copyright, and a chapter, and added a TOC. It generated fine. But when I save as PDF, the table of contents in the PDF is not live. The cursor points to an item, but when you click it, nothing happens. I checked the Frame TOC. When I hold Ctrl-alt, the cursor turns to a hand pointer and I can click on the entry. Then an error message appears that "Cannot find xxx file." The name of the file it lists is exactly the name of the chapter file. The chapter file is still exactly where it was when I created the book. All the files are in the same directory. Anyone have any ideas?

I am performing testing in a Windows 7 environment with Structured FrameMaker 11.I am using an internally automated process that imports an xml feed into a FrameMaker template and produces a formatted FrameMaker document.  The FrameMaker 11 error console window that is displaying contains a long list of errors.  This is my first time working with FrameMaker 11 and this error console window.I’m noticing that the error console window indicates the line number where an error is occurring. I’m assuming that these line numbers correspond with the line numbers that can be made visible in the FrameMaker document by choosing the line numbering feature from the FrameMaker menu bar. Is this correct?

How to change the Heading 1 to Heading 2 in Framemaker document of 2000 pages?

I have a client that has a few very long headings in their book. The headings can't be re-written. The immediate problem is that I have running headers in this book, so when Frame is using one of these long headings for the running header, the running header is garbled. The text runs all the way to the end of the line, then it starts over at the beginning of the line over the words that are already there.Is there a method to limit the number of characters in a running header (or does someone know of another tactic) to force the running headers to display suitably?I'm using Frame 9 on Windows 8. (It also occurs on Windows 7 with Frame 9.)Thanks in advance for your help!Karen

Hi all,I have built a user-friendly cross-reference insertion dialog featuring a treeview that shows the hierarchy of a structured FM document. The only thing I cannot get to work is that the tree opens the top level when the dialog is built. I can set the 'expanded' property of the top level element to true, but that does not make it expand in the tree view. Is there a command that I can use to make it expand without the user having to click it?ThanksJang

Good morning everyone !We just updated our Framemaker to version 11 and we are getting a new problem while loading a file containing images (jpg format).While opening the file and scrolling down the pages, the various images load page after page but as soon as the image load on a single page, the file goes back to page 1. If we have to work on a file with hundreds of images this may be quickly annoying.Thank you for your help.

I've set H/F1 to pick up the top-level heading in the chapter, which is conventionally set with one capital letter – Chapter headings look like thisSomeone is now asking for the header style where I use H/F1 to be all caps. I have a particular dislike of mixed-size capital letters, and am vaguely wondering whether [in FM 10] there is a building-block <$lowerCase> or some other nifty workaround. Just a thought!

I have been too busy to send this off to the engineering team yet, but I wondered if I am the only one suffering multiple daily crashes (3-4 everyday for the last week or so.) This is the error I usually get, though I haven't saved them all. This one I was just selecting a text frame and then hit delete. In the text frame was a table with a lot of graphics (see image below), but I don't think it's has much to do with what I am doing at the time, because the crashes happen with different activities. Which seems to indicate a memory leak? I do have FM 11 up and running pretty much 24 x 7. My current project is about a 200 page book with tons of graphics and custom formatting...I think FM 11 came out in July. Anyone know if there is a patch coming out soon?

Using framemaker 11 and I can't seem to find a way to get rounded corners on a table.The only way is a fake way, and draw a rounded rectangle over the borderless table. But I have set up a program to import this document into another document but it doesn't take the rounded rectangle but takes the table. What gives?So the only methods I see working is figuring out how 1) to get rounded corners on a table, 2) have the rectangle 'stick' to the table so when everything is imported when I import the file, 3) create a rounded rectangle graphic outside of framemaker and import it in?Please help,chris

I have a document with several chapters. In these I have several headers in different "levels".The first one is determined by marker Header/Footer $1 and the second one by marker Header/Footer $2. These are always on the Master pages, and there called Running H/F 3 and Running H/F 4. I hope you understand what I mean. I am not that used to creating documents from scratch, I always use an old document or template, and haven't thought so much about how it works.Both Header/Footer's also creates the index.Anyway. Header 1 is always on top of each page. When that header changes, there's a new file. Header 2 changes between pages. Sometimes there's a Header 2 in the middle of a page, then that header should be below Header 1 on the next page.I add the marker for Header 2 in the header and everything almost always turns out fine. BUT not always. It's easier if I make an example:Page 1:Header 1 - AHeader 2 - ATwo thirds down on page 1 there should be a new Header 2. Let's call that B.Page 2:H

I am working on a book that uses section numbers within each chapter and also uses an outline format. For example, in Chapter One, I have:I. IntroductionA. §1.1 Preliminary MattersThe paragraphs are autonumbered with more than one counter, a letter or number from the outline, along with the section number.I have a running header at the top of the page. I want this header to display the section number only, but not to display the outline letters.Right now, my headers look like this: [A. §1.1]I want my headers instead to look like this: [§1.1]I also need to use cross references that will display as "§1.1" rather than as "A. 1.1"Is there a way to create a variable that will omit the first counter and other text and only display the counters I want?

Example: I use the @11188742 attribute to indicate that a step in a procedure is new or that a paragraph in a concept is new. Hi All,As others have previously posted, DITA tables in Frame 11 will convert to proportional table column sizing whether you want that or not. For example, you change your r/w rules to NOT use proportional column widths, store the COLSPECS so Frame maintains the column widths in the XML markup, and everything works until you open the file in WYSIWYG view. (If you open in XML View it's fine.) As soon as you open WYSIWYG View, Frame takes the formerly-correct table column widths and changes them to proportional scaling, sized to the text column width (without side heads). I'm using a template with side heads. Is there any workaround? Is there any way to be able to edit the C code for ditafm_app or ditafm? I could write my own fdk plug-in, but without knowing what the "official" ones do, it's hard to replace them. Thanks

Here is what I am trying to do:I have a set of documents in xml fomrat following the docbook standard.  In these documents there are too types of table.  The standard table with its element tag TABLE and an informal table with element tag INFORMALTABLE.When these are opened and my format file and EDD applied I want the Standard Tables to have a blue shaded header and the Informal Tables to have a grey shaded header.  I have created the appropriate table templates.  I cannot figure a way via the EDD to specify the table format type that works.  When I open an xml and apply the edd and the format all the tables open using the table format that is first in the list.What can I do to the EDD to achieve my goal?Thank you in advance
