Goodmorning,I wrote this content in the wrong area of this forum.I repeat the question in the FM structured area so maybe someone can help me.I'm using Structured Fm 11 with DITA files and DITAMAP stored in SharePoint CMS.I’m trying to customize the edd files but it I'm not able. This is my problem:With Fm 11 when I modify some edd as commonElements.eddmod or hazardstatementDomain.eddmod and then I try to update the concept.edd file or the topic.edd file the program is not able to update the files because it remains in waiting status for also 2 hours. With Fm 10 I hadn’t this problem, one minute was enough to update the concept. edd file.It seems as there is a close loop in the edd (shortdescription element seems to have some problems). At the end I had to export the edd from the concept template and modify it. But this is not the solution because I have to repeat the same job for the concept. edd, the task.edd, the topic.edd, the reference.edd, the ditabase.edd and the
I'm going to be producing an epub edition of one of my company's documents. A test document (ToC & two chapters of lipsem) was converted via FrameMaker fairly successfully. It even created a Table of Contents, but placed it at the end of the ebook. Does anyone know how to get FM to put the ToC at the beginning of the epub? Or did I inadvertently get it to create an index instead? Thanks, Justin
Hi all,I have a strange little problem that is going to make me crazy.Um...crazier.Frame 11 is not saving my bookmark selections when I generate a PDF. Here's what I do:Save book as PDF.Select the Bookmarks tab in the PDF setup dialog.Tell it to include paragraph X.Set.All works fine. Paragraph X is included in the PDF bookmarks. But when I go back to regen the book, paragraph X is back on the Don't Include list.Frame used to save the bookmark selections...at least in the rose-colored universe I currently remember.I have tried:Saving the book as something elseMIFing the bookRecreating the bookUninstalling and reinstalling Frame (you know I'm desperate if I tried this)Any ideas? This is about to turn my hair straight.rich
I wanted to set up a command and shortcut to surround clipboard contents by [[ and ]] before pasting. The purpose is to insert temporary citations which are put into the clipboard by an external application (EndNote). The method mentioned in discussion Can I pull clipboard contents into a script variable is more than clunky: use a file as an intermediate. On the other hand in AutoHotKey it is very easy to manipulate the clipboard. I have even used it to make code-coversions on the fly.^y:: ; {LaBonté, 1989 #11} Transform, utfString, Unicode ; Retrieve the clipboard's Unicode text as a UTF-8 string StringTrimLeft, utfString, utfString, 1 ; remove EndNote's braces StringTrimRight, utfString, utfString, 1 utfStr
This should be an easy question for FM experts. I am having a moment.Whats the best way to provide the same text on several (but not all) pages of a chapter/manual? The text is several lines at the bottom of the pages but is not considered footer text. It includes pricing (which will change yearly). My first thought is to format in excel and import by reference, but thinking there might be a better way. We are FM novices.FM11, windows7Thanks in advance!
When I save a FM11 file as PDF, then the embedded mp4 file is displayed as a black box. I can however hear the audio (music and narration). When I play the mp4 file for itself using any of my viewers there is nothing wrong with it. The file is 18mb large.Of course the 'Embed Multimedia Objects In PDF' option is active in the rpeferences. Are there any restrictions for embedded mp4 files, or do I have to use special settings?Robert

Actually I use the FM 9, and I need to do a operation using the current page or last page building block to add 1 to the last page (master page).Resuming, my doc has 11 pages and I need add in the last page the "PAGE 11/12 (Blank)", but the page 12 doesn't exist.I tried many ways to do it, but i couldn't find a way.Can anybody suggest a way to create this variable (<#currentpage>+1 or <#lastpage>+1)?
Can anyone suggest what tools are available to translate Framemaker 11 dita files into other languages? Thanks
If anybody knows how to enter a Unicode Value as a Bullet in an Autonumber Format, please tell me.
I'm a little unclear about how to get kumihan tables to work (specifically, the <NoLineBeginChar> statement). I'm working in English Windows with the language set to Japanese. When I save a Japanese manual as a MIF, then open the MIF in Notepad as a UTF-8 file, the KumihanCatalog section is there and all the Japanese characters are correct. (If I open as ANSI, the Japanese characters are garbled.) But the <NoLineBeginChar> statements obviously don't work because the manual in Frame shows lines that begin with the illegal characters. I tried saving the text MIF file as UTF-8 and opening in Frame. The document looks fine, but the <NoLineBeginChar> statements still don't work. The files were produced at a translation agency...I suppose they used a Japanese OS, which is why the kumihan tables are there. So, do I also need to use a Japanese OS to get the kumihan tables to work, not just an English system with the language set to Japanese? Thanks, B250
Hello. We are trying to find a way how we can import to FrameMaker file part of other file. We need to link this way one or more paragraphs from another document.I have tried import file, but this works for whole file, but we need only a part of document.I have also tried to create crossrefences but I was only able to insert one paragraph from another document. Is there a way to make a linked part of another document?
Hello ,Not sure if this is a simple question of not.I want to make a small version of my manual for people to carry around in leaflet form.I would have one page on a quarter size A4 (A6), but also would like the option of spreading an illustration over two or four quarters. When printed on A4, each page would fit a quater of the page. How do I set the page up?
We have framemaker7 license and was working on windowXP, but now we're planning to upgrade all the OS to Window7. But since we have a lot of framemaker documents and some of them are more than 1000pages which is really complicated. I don't know if framemaker 7 is totally compatible with Window7?
Hello,Does any one have any experience of FrameMaker 11 and EndNotes? Do they play easily together? Is there a better alternative?
Is it possible to change the color setting for Track Text Edits in FrameMaker 9.0 on a Windows 7 platform?
I haven't had the opportunity to use FM in several years, but recently installed FM 11 on a Windows 7 laptop. I work on a network, and generally save my files there, but have had some network issues, so I copied my project folder to my desktop. The folder contains the FM Book file, along with all the chapter and generated files. However, when I open the Book file which was copied to my local drive, all the pathnames for the chapters and generated files are shown as absolute paths to the files on the network drive. How can I fix this? I need to use the files that are on my local drive. The last version of FM that I used regularly was FM7.2, and I believe it saved all book file entries as relative pathnames, did it not? Is there a setting to enable relative pathnames for files in a book? Thanks!
We've been using FrameMaker 9, 10, and 11 for several years now and suddenly on my machine Frame requires the first line of a DITA file to be <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>I know this may seem weird since <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> is pretty much required by the standards, but Frame 10 on my co-worker's machine does not require this line at the top of the file. Neither did my installation until yesterday. Until yesterday having this <!DOCTYPE topic PUBLIC "-//OASIS//DTD DITA Topic//EN" "topic.dtd"> at the top of the file was sufficient for Frame to recognize display, edit and otherwise be nice. Now, my installation doesn't know what to do with files lacking <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> and starting with <!DOCTYPE topic PUBLIC "-//OASIS//DTD DITA Topic//EN" "topic.dtd"
I have recently installed FrameMaker 11 (v11.0.0.380) and have created a book with several files and a TOC. I am working on a network (I've tried both wired and wireless connections) and have the same problem: When I try to save a file, most of the time I get an error message that FM cannot save the file to the disk. It lists the file name, but adds a 3-character file exension after ".fm" at the end of the file name. Each time I try to save, the file extra file extension changes somewhat randomly. I can do a "save as" and save to my laptop's hard drive (most of the time) and, very occasionally, I can actually save the file to the network drive if I work in another application and come back to FM and *immediately* try to save a file. I am using Windows Professional with Service Pack 1 on a Dell laptop.
(FM10 on Win7x64)Before a mifwash, boolean expressions for conditional tags are named as: Name1, Name2, Name3.After the mifwash, those expressions are named Default Expression, Default Expression1 and Default Expression2.A quick check of the mif file shows Name1, Name2, Name3, not Default Expression, Default Expression1 or , Default Expression2.What am I missing?
In older FM versions, if you installed the program in another language then the EDD was also structured with localized element names. That makes it impossibe to copy elements into a different EDD.Is there a way to convert the EDD without creating each individual context rule from scratch? I suppose importing the old EDD structure (the EDD of the EDD so to speak) would be a bad solution because of the mismatching EDD versions.Robert P.S. I asked Scott via the FMx homepage before I realized that this might be of general interest. If I receive a direct answer I'll post it here.
Dear all,The issue I have, is that I need a paragraph style which always lines up under any previous image or text frame, as if it places itself where it finds the maximum available textframe width. The title of the second chapter should begin under the image inserted in the previous chapter. It works when I anchor an image of 1 pt with position "run into paragraph", see image below: I know that another method is to place the whole bodytext and image in an table, but that is another patch-up. I currently use:- Adobe FrameMaker 11- Adobe CS6- Microsoft Windows 7 Professional (Dutch)Hopefully anybody knows how to solve this issue. Kind regards, Hein-Jan
My Czech and Latvian mif files have certain characters that do not change when I am applying Arial or Myriad Pro to them. What is happening? It seems that it is any Eastern European language that is giving me trouble
