I have recently installed FrameMaker 11 (v11.0.0.380) and have created a book with several files and a TOC. I am working on a network (I've tried both wired and wireless connections) and have the same problem: When I try to save a file, most of the time I get an error message that FM cannot save the file to the disk. It lists the file name, but adds a 3-character file exension after ".fm" at the end of the file name. Each time I try to save, the file extra file extension changes somewhat randomly. I can do a "save as" and save to my laptop's hard drive (most of the time) and, very occasionally, I can actually save the file to the network drive if I work in another application and come back to FM and *immediately* try to save a file. I am using Windows Professional with Service Pack 1 on a Dell laptop.
(FM10 on Win7x64)Before a mifwash, boolean expressions for conditional tags are named as: Name1, Name2, Name3.After the mifwash, those expressions are named Default Expression, Default Expression1 and Default Expression2.A quick check of the mif file shows Name1, Name2, Name3, not Default Expression, Default Expression1 or , Default Expression2.What am I missing?
In older FM versions, if you installed the program in another language then the EDD was also structured with localized element names. That makes it impossibe to copy elements into a different EDD.Is there a way to convert the EDD without creating each individual context rule from scratch? I suppose importing the old EDD structure (the EDD of the EDD so to speak) would be a bad solution because of the mismatching EDD versions.Robert P.S. I asked Scott via the FMx homepage before I realized that this might be of general interest. If I receive a direct answer I'll post it here.
Dear all,The issue I have, is that I need a paragraph style which always lines up under any previous image or text frame, as if it places itself where it finds the maximum available textframe width. The title of the second chapter should begin under the image inserted in the previous chapter. It works when I anchor an image of 1 pt with position "run into paragraph", see image below: I know that another method is to place the whole bodytext and image in an table, but that is another patch-up. I currently use:- Adobe FrameMaker 11- Adobe CS6- Microsoft Windows 7 Professional (Dutch)Hopefully anybody knows how to solve this issue. Kind regards, Hein-Jan
My Czech and Latvian mif files have certain characters that do not change when I am applying Arial or Myriad Pro to them. What is happening? It seems that it is any Eastern European language that is giving me trouble
Hello fellows,Is there a way to replace all the textual content in a book with some sample text using Extendscript? If yes, could you please point me to the relevant APIs?Thank you for your help in advance!
Framemaker 9 (The upgrade had no new features that I could use, I far as I could see.)Windows 8Very high powered gaming laptop (I use them because they have the most oomph.)When I add content, the green underlines do not display (nor does the text turn green). When I delete, it works fine, even on the text I just added (which it shouldn't, since it should still be conditional).
In the old Frame versions I could easily do this. But Frame 11 just gives me tabs and seems to allow only one tab to open at a time. I guess I could run two instances of Frame but that would hog my cpu.
Is there a cross reference format for listing two steps? I'd like to have, "See Steps 5 and 6 on page 2" as a cross reference. I found formats for the "5" and "page 2," but can't seem to find a format for the "6". I also inserted a second marker but couldn't figure out how to combine it with the phrase.Thank you!
When I create and save a new DITA Task in FM11 (using DITA 1.1), FM writes 'Concept' as doctype even though referencing the correct task dtd. FM also auto-inserts a concept element as root element. The XML looks like this:The structapps file looks fine to me and also contains the correct doctype statement. Do you have any idea where else I could look to find the error?Robert
Many of us will have seen the message The {font name} is not available flash past in the error log. Sometimes it's actually a true statement … often, it seems to me, it ain't! or, if not an absolute untruth, it's certainly a different world-view.I've just been presented with this assertion again. I've checked the source file in question, identified the paragraph styles that call for the font, and there the font is in the pull-down: not greyed out, just there for selection like any other. No suspect graphics in the file, just one .jpg. What's more, if I check the .pdf font properties, there's the "unavailable" font in use; marked as "can embed font", yet.The result – the .pdf deliverable – is as required. Not being harassed by portentous messages would, then, reduce author stress levels! Hints and tips welcome …N
Needing a new version of FM and Acrobat at least, and wanting a credible path to HTML, and probably ebook, which implies RoboHelp, I'm looking at getting a retail copy of TC4 for home use. An upgraded Illustrator is fine too.The TC4 bundle is a more attractive deal than parts-is-parts, some of which may be locked in the cloud now anyway. The rest of the TC bundle is not compelling. The TC4 versions of Acrobat (X) and Illustrator (CS6) are not current. Acro is now XI and Illustrator is now version "CC". The vintage doesn't bother me so much as what that anachronism implies. My guess is that TC4 is unlikely to be upgraded to bundle newer versions of anything now imprisoned in the cloud. Anyone have alternative insights?FM and RH are not presently available via cloud, only via classic perpetual licence. But I'm thinking that unless CC becomes a bigger cloudburst than it has already, Adobe will eventually consign all products to that time-bombed gulag in the sky. Any guesses on when this mi
Hello all,In FrameMaker 9, the user interface has been completely overhauled to look like all of the other Adobe products. One detail in this overhaul was the colors of the toolbar icons. By default, compying to PhotoShop and other products, the icons are grey and show color only when you hover over them. For a product where colors are in the content, this is probably a good choice, but in FrameMaker most content is black and white, and having colored icons in the toolbars does help authors to quickly find the required function for what they want to do.It turns out to be quite simple to change FrameMaker's usage of icons by changing configuration files, telling Frame to use the colored hover icon as the default one and the grey default icon as the hover version. I have created a script that does this for FrameMaker versions 10 and 11 (in fact, the script will also work for version 12). The script can be executed via the File > Script > Run command and does not require any knowled
Hi all, when I save a ditamap as composite document, which template file must I edit to change the layout? So far I have modified the topic templates (task.template.fm etc.) but I have not found the template relevant for the output yet.Update-----------The ditafm_output.ini file contains the line CompositeDocTemplate_1.2=ditabase.template.fm but exchanging all ditabase.template.fm files in the FM directory did not do the job. This seems like is a very basic question so I wonder why it is not documented - or am I missing something? The only workaround I found was to manually import the EDD and formatting from my template into the FM document each time after publishing.-----------Robert
When we used the Framemaker option Save>Ditamap As > FM 10 book with components, all of our cross references were maintained. Now for some odd reason with Framemaker 11, all the cross references aredisappearing when you save as FM 11 book with components. We are using our own defined cross reference formats, such as heading and Page #.This is repeatable across several machines in our office, and we have thelastest version of Framemaker installed.Has anyone seen this, or does anyone have any ideas? I rechecked this on a machine that has Frame 10 and it works fine there. I noticed a template folder was added to Framemaker 11 and I am wondering if we need to import our cross references formats into it.Thanks in advance.Margo
Hello ,Simple question; can you format numbering in the Paragraph Design, Autonumber Format to count 01, 02, 03... 10, 11 etc.?
Hi AllI have just added an appendix to an existing guide. However, the Appendix heading does not display in the TOC, it just includes the heading 1s and 2s.The master page for the toc includes the following definitions:Chapter <$chapnum>: <$paratext><$pagenum><$paratext><$pagenum><$paratext><$pagenum><$paratext><$pagenum>Appendix <$chapnum>: <$paratext><$pagenum>The Chapter heading is displaying fine. Am I missing something? Thanks in advance for any help,Emma.
I am new to FrameMaker and am trying to figure out what the Hotspot Mode is for. Thanks.
Hi,when exporting a 7cm width EMF image from illustrator and corel draw, the image size is getting differed when EMF is imported to framemaker. coreldraw exported EMF gets correctly fitted in the framemaker 7cm template whereas illustrator EMF doesnt do. Do i have to do something with the framemaker or adobe illustrator setting. Can anyone please help?
A long hyper link http://docs.oasis-open.org/ebxml-msg/ebms/v3.0/core/os/ebms_core-3.0-spec-os.html works fine in Framemaker. Because it is too long, so it is displayed in two lines in FM. "http://docs.oasis-open.org/ebxml-msg/ebms/v3.0/core/os/ebms_core-3.0-spe" is the first line. After conversion, when you click the link in PDF or HTML help, you are lead to "http://docs.oasis-open.org/ebxml-msg/ebms/v3.0/core/os/ebms_core-3.0-spe" only, so the link can't be opened. I tried Save Book As PDF and Print, both didn't work. Could you please help identify this issue?
We have a bunch of legacy documentation in FrameMaker format, and would like to migrate those documents over to InDesign. Any suggestions would be helpful…OMas
Hello,Is it possible to change the default settings for different paragraph and character tags? If it is not possible to change default settings, is it possible to save custom tags such that everytime I open a new portrait those tags will be available? Thanks,Matt
I am using Frame 9. I've had an odd table footer printing/display problem that I can't quite figure out. Here's what happens:I have a table that goes over about 4 pages. It has a header and footer. The header and footer are both set to repeat on every page. The footer is very distinctive, with a black fill and white letters. Several times I've opened the document to make edits (we're in the midst of a longer process) and, while scrolling through the pages, I'll notice that the footer isn't at the bottom of the page. Instead it will be somewhere in the middle or higher on the page. It isn't on top of a row (meaning, it isn't obscuring something beneath it, like a layers issue with InDesign or similar program). Other pages in the same table may or may not have the same issue, I've seen it both ways. I thought maybe I had somehow mis-pasted a new row into the table and so I deleted the mid-page "footer," only to have the footer on all pages disappear. I hit the Undo button and the problem
In addition to the typical generated list building blocks, you can use <$elemtextonly>, <$elemtext>, and <$elemtag> when the target document is structured. Is there any way to grab attribute values from the target document to include in a generated list? I've tried using <$attribute[ATTRNAME]> and <$attribute[ATTRNAME:ELEMTAG]>, but neither work. Is this just not possible through standard list building methods or am I doing it wrong?Thanks!...scott
May be that updates, or FM11 installation can be a matter, but I can't import anymore any AutoCAD .DWG file in any version of FrameMaker. Until about 2 month ago I imported AutoCAD .DWG files, in FM10 for a client that uses a lot of .dwg files. Now a new job, with the same client, came, but I can't import .dwg files... in any version of FM I have installed (from 7 to 11): they give me the same error:"The filter encoutered an error and could not complete the translation."Even the "old" .dwg I imported 2 months ago don't work anymore. The things I do in the meantime with may PC are installing FM11 and updating vairous Adobe software I have on it.Any idea?(oh, yes, in the mean time I survived printing the .dwg on pdf files and importing them, but it's not the same...)
