While checking earlier threads about insets and unwanted spacing, I came across references to PgfLocked as a property you need .mif to get to. It wasn't part of my problem, but I'm curious: what would it have been doing, if it had been there?
I recall seeing another post about this issue and I can't find it now, but none of the workarounds mentioned there worked for me, so here goes:I am working on a book migrated from FM 9 to FM 11, and when I print to PDF, I specify the bookmarks I want to display in the Bookmarks tab of the PDF Setup for Selected Files dialog. The PDF prints fine, but when I want to print the book again, FM doesn't remember my settings, forcing me to set the bookmarks from scratch every time. This has proven pretty tedious seeing that I'm working with an old book in which the styles aren't intiutive, so trying to remember all of them every time isn't the best of fun. When I print a single file in the book, the settings are saved properly.In the previous post, I remember reading that this was a bug in FM and trying the following suggested workarounds (none of which worked): Switching to structured mode; saving the desired setting in one file in the book, printing that document, and then printing the book
Hi all,In my book, I have an introductory document which is the same for all books. Sort of a foreword. So I import this into an empty document which I then save and rename etc. In other words, the foreword is a regular text inset. For some reason, Framemaker adds the paragrap tag for title after/before the inset, while leaves me with a numbered blank entry in my toc and an ugly orange bar below my inset, which I usually use as part of the title layout. Not only the TOC entry is a nuisance, but also the fact that even after deleting the inset I cannot change or delete the paragraph tag. How can I fix/prevent this?ThanksPieterAdded screenshots show the document with the inset selected and the title paragraph underneath, and without the inset showing the unremovable and unchangeable paragraph tag. (the blue curly sign and orange bar)
Hacking my way through various operations, trying to root out "unavailable font" messages, and I've noticed (not for the first time, but for the first time I've been minded to ask questions) a whole slew of paragraph style definitions in the .book. Even if I assume they've drifted in there from the component .fm files, I'm still left wondering why.And considering I've just exposed one area of ignorance, let's go for broke with another question: what is encoded in the BookFileInfo block?
Hi All,Does anyone have any suggestions on the best way to save approximately 50 FM11 files to .mif version 7 (for translators who only have FM9) ?I was hoping there was a script or tool to speed up this process, or will we have to save each invidually ?Thank you,Tina
My PDFs are doing an odd thing with bookmarks. They list as bookmarks every entry (paragraph) on the TOC and APL. But not consistently. Any ideas?And is this an Acrobat issue or a Framemaker issue? Individual book chapters are okay as PDFs. It only happens when I make a PDF of the entire book. I've looked at the paratags and the bookmark setup, and can't see anything out of the ordinary.
Partly for more control of vertical white space, and partly for control with master page mapping, I've used a pairs of styles for certain types of content: FigureAnchor and FigureEnd, TableAnchor and TableEnd.What about text insets? Any advantages to using InsetAnchor and InsetEnd?
Hi all,I use a MacBook Pro for work and in my down time, I'd like to be able to do some assignments for my FrameMaker class. I found a few guidelines for running FM on a Mac, but I couldn't seem to get any of them working. So for the Mac users out there, which VM do you suggest for running FM 11 on OS X? I'd like to run FM within OS X, without having to dual boot or boot into Windows. Thanks! P.S. -- I apologize if this has already been asked.
Hi,I've created a Framemaker XI package with the "Adobe Application Manager Enterprise Edition", provided the serial number and added patch 11.0.2. The package was successfully created on a network share the installing admin account has full access rights to. Target system is a W2K8 R2 64bit terminal server.When installing, the msi rolls back, throwing error 1708/1603 after collecting all it's msi properties, nothing gets installed. In the LOCAL folder of %APPDATA%, I find a file called PDApp.log with the follwing content:6/27/2013 17:16:47 [INFO] DeploymentManager - Build Version - 3.1.105.06/27/2013 17:16:47 [INFO] DeploymentManager - Logging Level verbosity Set to 46/27/2013 17:16:47 [INFO] DeploymentManager - Executing the deferred custom action.6/27/2013 17:16:47 [INFO] DeploymentManager - Obtained the following as CustomActionData6/27/2013 17:16:47 [INFO] DeploymentManager - mode=install;sourceDir=H:\TIMRS\4 ACME_Framemaker_XI\Build\;installDir=;origDB=H:\TIMRS\4 ACME_Frame
Afterinstalled the Framemaker, everytime i started it, there will be a dialogue appers, as shows in the attachment. If click [confirm], the Framemaker will be closed automatically.And my operating system is Windows 7.
FrameMaker 11DITA 1.2Is it possible using FM 11 and DITA 1.2 to use a soft return (as in Shift+Enter)? There are times when I want to avoid bad line breaks in a line of code or when I just want to keep a line with the previous line rather than having the extra space generated by a hard return.Using a soft return disappears as soon as I save my file and reopen it. By "disappears" I mean it acts simply like a space rather than any type of return.Thanks in advance,Marsha
Dear all,The script I'm developing creates a menu for the various steps to be taken by the user. It acts both on a single document or on a book (all of it's documents). Adding the custom menu to the SpecialMenu works fine for the documents. This standard menu is not available if a book is active. Hence I tried to connect it to the FormatMenu.function DefineMenus() { var menuMain = {en: "Bibliography with EndNote …", de: "Bibliografie mit EndNote …"}; var menuDocu = {en: "Documentation", de: "Beschreibung (en)"}; var menuLocation = app.GetNamedMenu("FormatMenu"); var bibenMenu = menuLocation.DefineAndAddMenu("!BIBENmain", (localize(menuMain)));
I have files in framemaker version 6.0 and not able to open inside framemaker. give error unknown file type. Is there a solution for this? Browse thru inside forum but no solution on this.
Hello friends,Now that I have managed to find citations (special strings) in paragraphs, footnotes, tables and table footnotes - all with your generous help - I need to find out the file name (path) of the current document (or book).All that i have found is how to get the file name of a book component (well, that i'll need also, but later).How can I find the file name of the current document (that is not part of a book) andHow can I find the file name of the current book?Thanks again for Your helpKlaus
OK, I admit it – I've never managed to get my head round OO :-{ and, accordingly, never got very far trying to understand FrameScript. I did, though, manage to use some of the default scripts while I had FrameScript on another installation.So with that as context, I was sheepishly wondering if anyone happened to have a new-fangled script to share that will save all .book components out as .mif for FM 10 – I have various housekeeping tasks to perform, and they'd go a lot faster with mif.N
Sorry if this is a dim question, but I'm a FrameMaker novice and I'm not sure how to go about the following:My document makes lots of use of cross-references and I've always created these with the source type as 'Paragraphs' and a format that uses <$paratext> For example, a cross ref displayed as:How do I perform task A?takes the user to a pargraph titled:How do I perform task A?I'd like to change this a bit by editing the text displayed in the link to be:task Abut have it still take the user to same paragraph as before:How do I perform task A?I just can't figure out a way to have different text displayed without having to set up a new format for every cross reference that I create (which can't be the right way to do it).
Writing stuff to the console displays some characters not correct. When I copy the string in question from the console window into the document window - or into another application, the string displays correctly.What I see in the console:Copied from the console log and pasted into EditPad:p-Sèsíüs, #26p-Šèšíüš, #26 «-------t-Friðriksson, 2005 #31; DaubeT, #312Hence the string is correct, but not correctly displayed...I have not found out, which font is used in the console, because further tests show, that all character with the hacec accent (the small v) are not displayed correctly. Other specials such as single guilliments (›) are also not displayed correctly. Take this small script to check:var testText = "U0100: ĀāĂ㥹ĆćĈĉĊċČčĎď \nU0110: ĐđĒēĔĕĖėĘęĚěĜĝĞğ \nU0160: ŠšŢţŤťŦŧŨũŪūŬŭŮů \nU0170: ŠšŢţŤťŦŧŨũŪūŬŭŮů"; Console (testText);What you see on the console is this:I have not found any
Is it possible to anchor a custom master page?. I'm using a custom master page for rotated pages to adapt as well the header and footer but I want to use the same text flow. When I'm inserting something before the rotated page, it moves all the content. So text which should be on the rotated page moves then to the following normal pages.By addressing the master page usage, I couldn't find any function which anchors it to the text like e.g. tables or anchored figures.My system: Win7-64, FM11 (unstructered).
What does this sybilline message mean? I assume we can leave aside the possibility that FrameMaker has analysed the text for discrepancies and contradictions ...
When I save a Framemaker 11 file to pdf I get a question mark inside of the > character at the beginning of each line of the generated table of contents in the pdf file. I have done everything that I can think of and can't get rid of it.
Hello friends,Obiously table footnotes are not the same objects as footnotes (in text flows). They are not found with the script as described in my post message/5430068#5430068. They are also flows (I assume this from the § symbol at their end). How to access these table footnotes? I have found only properties for their format, for example TblFnNumStyle, TblFnCellPosition or TblFnSuffix).There is no such constant as FTI_tblfn….I welcome Your ideas.Klaus
Dear all,Having managed to extract citations from ordinary paragraphs and table cells I now want to get it also from footnotes. See the complete script and test-doc (FN-11) doc here.I get the first footnote paragraph with its citation correctly.But my construct to get the next paragraph of the footnote obviously is wrong - there is no NextPgfInFn (or NextPgf) mentioned in the Scripting Guide, only FirstPgf and LastPgf. But it is possible to have multiple paragraphs in footnotes (see test-doc). And hence the function GetText fails for the 'second paragraph' in the footnote.function processFootnote (fn, doc) {// find citations in footnotes var fnText = ""; var fnPara = fn.FirstPgf; while (fn.ObjectValid()) { fnText = (GetText(fnPara)); alert (fnText);
We save all of our .fm book and chapter files to a central server, and recently we've noticed that when we close a file the .lck file does not automatically delete. Thus, we are having to manually delete this before updating books, opening files, etc. We're using FM8 on PC's with Win 7 x64. We have FM set to run in XP x32 compatability mode, which is working pretty well for us aside from the aformentioned issue.Has anybody else run into this? Any ideas on a fix?Thanks! Scott
I'm looking for a way to replace an existing text-inset in a document with the contents of an other file (by reference), by means of scripting. Say, I have a document c:\referer.fm, in which there is a text inset of which the source file is: c:\A.fmI also have c:\B.fm, and now I want to change referer.fm so that no longer the text inset holds the text from A.fm, but from B.fm.I tried this:var doc = app.ActiveDoc; var textinset = doc.FirstTiInDoc;var pathtosource = textinset.TiFile;pathtosource = "c:\B.fm";textinset.UpdateTextInset();But this doesn't work. I guess setting 'pathtosource' cannot be done this way. If anyone knows the way to do this, I would really appreciate your help!David
Hallothis is a pre-sale question. I'm considering Framemaker for a customer who basically needs a DITA tool.After editing a topic used in many documents, is it possible to batch-publish all the documents using that topic?For example: the topic "Hazards warnings" is used in documents A, B and C.I edit "Hazard warnings".Is it possible to automatically output the PDF for A, B and C?Thanks in advance
