InDesign

I often use bulleted lists with the commmand/backslash (hanging indent) tool. If the text is aligned left, no problem. But when I use left justify, it sends some of the words off to the right — outside of the text frame! Please see examples below.I cannot find a fix for this or imagine why it's happening. I can only figure that it is a bug. Is anyone else having this problem? I haven't been able to find any other record of it in my searches.I've been having this problem for a while. Before I updated to InDesign 2018 and after the update as well. I'm running El Capitan 10.11.6 on a Mid 2011 iMac.Thanks in advance for any thoughts!

Does anyone know if there is a limit to the number of replacement text (atoms) in InDesign GREP? I'm trying to parse data into 17 separate replacement text (atoms) but InDesign only seems to recognize $1, $2, $3, $4, $5, $6, $7, $8, and $9. InDesign GREP does not recognize $10, $11, $12, $13, etc. What InDesign GREP does instead is to insert $1 plus the number 0, 1, 2, 3, etc. So it seems that InDesign GREP has a limit of 9 replacement text (atoms). Is there a way to get InDesign to recognize more than 9? I know I can probably accomplish this in two separate searches, but I would rather do it correctly in one search. Hi, Anyone know the best practices (or tools) to calculate different font sizes, leading, columns and baseline size and can share it? I am struggling to create something that is better than the template I already have and everytime I try make a new templae, something ends up misaligned.

Hi, I just want to be able to insert a tick where I can change the colour, I have tried inserting as a glyph or symbol but cant see an option to change the colour. Please help.

Hi,This week for the third time a client asked me to deliver the final text of a book, from InDesign, into a Word-document.Mostly no problem (save as PDF/X-4.0:2001 and then export to Word).But those three book contain more then 100 footnotes (and/or endnotes).Do you know if there is a solution for this? Or an extension?I’ve looked but didn’t find anything at this moment.I tried the Recosoft trial version, but it ignores all footnotes.

I have completed working on 250 pages on Indesign, this morning opened my file and saw entire document is had 20057 Overset text...looks like all of the fonts looks bigger than it was before. I use Gesta Font from Adobe stock. Font values are still the same. Every version that I have saved now has the same problem.I don't know what to do at this moment. Probably getting fired, they are not gonna understand what happened or belive me. Asking them manually 2-3 days to fixing it not an option.

Hi,I created a couple of tables in InDesign. Now I was asked if I could export them as PNG for the company. What is the best method to do this?

I previously posted about losing my InDesign file icons when updating from InDesign 2023 to 2024. I was able to fix it, but it has happened again, this time after installing the new 2024 update this morning, and this time, I can't seem to fix it. I am running Windows 10. I have uninstalled and reinstalled InDesign, but that didn't fix it. I did however, elect to keep my preferences when uninstalling - don't know if that could affect things. A couple of differences - this time, when I add the shortcut to the bottom bar, the icon is also gone - it just shows up as the blank white icon. But if I create a shortcut on the desktop it shows up.  Also, regarding the initial installation of the update - it froze at about 82% complete and was stuck there. Eventually I tried to cancel, but it got stuck on cancelling. So I restarted the computer. At that point the icon was blank on the bottom bar. I figured it would return after I completed the update installation. So I we

I can't overwrite pdf files from the export menu it says 'file is still open' I've had this issue before and it is back - It is so annoying. I've tried closing both indesign and Acrobat - same issue again and again. My Only option is renaming the file. Meaning myworkflow file name structure is effected. Surely there must be a fix by now for this ? indesign 19.5.  Stephen McEwan   

Hi everyone, My team and I are also experiencing this issue. Indesign 2024. I was wondering if it could be a clash with Incopy? We have writers who go in and edit copy in our documents using Incopy and these are the only documents we have the corruption on. We were working on Onedrive, but had too many issues so have moved to Dropbox. We are very careful to make sure everything is synched and assignments are updated before saving or exporting but every now and then the file corrupts. It's an 80 odd page document and the Indd file is 100mb. It's a lot of work to rebuild. Thanks for your advice, opinion

  CC reports a font could not be activated due to a conflict, yet the "Activating Font" task is stuck until I quit InDesign. When I try to export a PDF, it is stuck behind these never-ending tasks in the queue, thus preventing me from exporting it. Bug? (MacOS Catalina 10.15.4, Indesign 15.1.1)     {Renamed by MOD}  

This drives me crazy. After typing a letter and creating ounlines I get my anchor points. With the direct selection tool clicking on the anchor (only that singel one is solid, others are hollow) I simply cant drag it with my mouse. I can drag the bazier anchor point without problem, but not the anchor points itself. Im clearly missing something, please help me (inDesign v.20.0.1) That weird too, holding the shift key im able to move the seletcted anchor point, but only vertically in a line. Not horizontally, nothing with 45°.  Thanks in advance 

My understanding is indesign dropshadow effect needs to be updated for the option: size within the dropshadow panel to be able to accept 0 - 1000 points for scripts. You can input higher numbers within the size by doing it manually but not with scripts for whatever reason. It will only accepts 0-144 point or 2 inches within the code.Indesign CC 2025Run the attached script a 100 in height image and you'll get the error.On the dropshadow applied to have the distance 5.0 in and size 5.0Distance: 5.0 in and Size: 0.0694 inScript attached.I have a script to automatically apply dropshadows and we have a formula where we take the height of the image and multiply that by 5% which gets placed in the Distance and Size. This works for smaller images but when there are larger images the number it puts into the distance works but the size seems to be limited to 2 inches. But if I do it manually it can go up to 13.8889″for the sizeI get this error: ERROR in applyDropShadow: Error: Invalid value for

Hi all, I would love your insight on something. I have came accross a bit of a problem while designing a digital planner. On this planner (document 1), I've added text anchors hyperlinks in the document, linking to anchors in this document. It works great, no problem at all (when exported as a PDF). I have created another document (document 2 - additionnal pages for my planner that people can add to their planner if they choose to), that link to the text anchors created in the first document. I've selected "document 1" when creating the hyperlinks in document 2, but after exporting it as a PDF, the hyperlinks don't work anymore (I've included document2.pdf in document1.pdf). Is this normal? Is there a way to do what I want to do? I've tried so many things, and yet it doesn't work... I hope it's clear! Thanks in advance for your help. Yuna

InDesign's Feature Generative Fill is usefull, but the files are in a place difficult to access (C:\Users\admin\Documents\InDesign-GenAI-Assets\...) and the long file names make it difficult to identify when they are many. When cooperating with others, they are needed: it would make sense to have them in the folder of the indd. Or somewhere configurable.

I understand that Adobe fonts will not package, but that is not the issue I'm having. Until very recently, I would always get a "Document Fonts" folder for those fonts used in a file that are installed on my system. In fact,  the last issue of this publication I packaged 2 months ago contained a Document Fonts folder, but not with this most recent job. The summary reads 22 fonts used, with 0 protected, missing etc. I'm kind of at a loss as to why it no longer pcreates a Document Fonts folder at all when I package. Help!

Hi, I am in the process of designing my first book (non fiction) in Indesign. Earlier this week I came across the topic of justification and realized that it was something my text blocks required. I did some research, but overall, this topic is still a bit unclear and I want to make sure its setup correctly. Questions: Is there a specific percentage I should avoid going over or under in the various options in the justification settings?Are there specific things I should look out for?How can I ensure that I have no H&J violations? It always seems that when I adjust it one way, somehting else gets violated.In general, I don’t have much knowledge about this topic besides reading a few things online, so any feedback would be greatly appreciated.Thank you very much for any help in this area! 

Hi,I am sure this question has been asked in the past. I couldn't really find a solution. I have a document that needs to be in UK English. The text came from different sources and some have used US English. I have changed the language to UK English in Preference, selected every word in the document and converted it to UK English and even changed the Paragraph Styles. Inspite of all this, US English words do not show up when I run a spell-check and are not highlighted with 'Dynamic Spelling' switched on.  Has anyone had any luck with this problem?  Thanks,Vijay.
