The city of virginia beach is trying to show live web cams at our aquarium using flash media encoder. We have run into an issue because apparently media encoder will only recognize video devices that are plugged into the computer where media encoder is installed. Can someone please tell me if there is anyway to stream live web cam feeds through media encoder when web cams are accessed through ip address and not part a physical computer? Is there other software that might do this? Is there something I can do with a config file. I am new to all this so please pardon my lack of knowledge when it comes to live streaming. thank you Jason Hall
My company is upgrading from Flash Communication Server 1.5 to Flash Media Server 2.0.3. As a Flash developer utilizing the server, are there any major changes in the way I would reference applications or application instances? Or, if FMS is installed properly, will the connection strings that I am currently using for FCS work just fine when the new server is in place? Thanks. --- marty brutvan digital variant www.digitalvariant.com
Hi, I am trying install and run FMS 3.2 (DEV) on Parallels on my Mac, so I can run and test a website connecting to FMS from localhost:8888. I have installed FMS 3.2 and all is ok there, but when I go to the admin console it hangs with "connecting to server [server 1]" and does not move from there. I have installed FMS Dev server plenty of times before but never experienced this before. Any help would be much appreciated. Regards Bruce
Hi All, I've setup a chat room using 123FlashChat with webcams enabled. Once in the chat room users can activate their webcams and everyone can see each other and I can see the connections in the Flash Media Server admin console. Any advice / assistance appreciated on the following: a) How do I record the sessions b) How do I lock sessions down so they are only one-to-one? Many thanks
Ok, I'm a bit frustrated with this product. I finally learned how to get the web services working. Through a trace I can see the results. However, when I attempt to set the return result to a variable the variable returns "undefined". Any clues how to set the return value from a web service would be very helpful. I want to return true or false then test this value. This would in in the onConnection method in the server side action script. Thanks in advance.
Can anyone tell me whether it is better to have multiple live subscribing streams over one NetConnection or a seperate connection for each stream? Is there any documentation anywhere for best practices? Thanks.
Hi, I am connecting to FMS on Parallels through Mamp on my Mac. In the allowDomains files I have placed the exact url and even the ip address for where MAMP serves the applications on my Mac. Yet I still get "Unknown Url - http://localhost:8888/app.htm" - rejecting connection. Thanks in advance for your time.
I tried to access to my FMS from an php/flash script but i get this error: quote: Connecting to the video server... >>The client does not have permission to connect to the application, or the application expected different parameters from those that were passed. >>The connection was closed successfully
Is anyone aware of Flash video conferencing software available for licensing that runs on FMIS. Features similar to GoToMeeting/Webinar would be nice.
The 2.5 encoder just crashes whenever i launch it - it worked for about an hour. then i tried to load a profile, and it all went to hell. i uninstalled and reinstalled it, with no luck. I'm running vista ultimate with sp2.
Hi Is it possible to connect to FMS via RTMP protocol from another application except Flash? For example FMS is streaming a live video and i want to watch it on my C# .net application. How can i do this? I googled a lot but found nothing enough. I tried to connect via TCPClient Class in C# but, as i understood and see, there is not even a connection request on FMS server machine. Can 't other applciations reach to RTMP on FMS machine? Please help. Thanks.

Hi, We are hosting a FMS3 server on a Redhat EL5. The Redhat EL5 is fully patched with Red Hat Network, and the version on the FMS server is FMS3_0_2_r217. We are running the server a few months without any problems so far. There are about 30 vhosts active on the server. Today the load of the server increased by a lot, and we saw a process called 'fmscore' taking all CPU power (200%). When I restarted the server, the problem returned. When I went to the logs folder I saw the following entries: -rw-rw---- 1 3188489 Oct 17 11:31 core.00.log -rw-rw---- 1 10487959 Oct 17 11:30 core.01.log -rw-rw---- 1 10487978 Oct 17 11:30 core.02.log -rw-rw---- 1 10486128 Oct 17 11:29 core.03.log -rw-rw---- 1 10520479 Oct 17 11:11 core.04.log -rw-rw---- 1 10505753 Oct 17 11:11 core.05.log You notice the time-stamps are within minutes from each other, and each logfile is 10mb in size. When I opened the logfile, I got the following messages: 2008-10-17 11:30:15 9407 (e)2581279 Assert failed in /FlashPl
Hi, I try to configurate FMS with SSL support. I following: http://www.adobe.com/livedocs/flashmediaserver/3.0/docs/help.html?content=03_configtasks_25.html#1193031 but when I try to start server, it's show the error: #Date: 2008-12-18 #Fields: date time x-pid x-status x-ctx x-comment 2008-12-18 13:15:56 16856 (i)2581173 Host: ServerName.domain.ext - 2008-12-18 13:15:56 16856 (e)2711334 Failed to load CA certs : error:02001002:system library:fopen:No existe el fichero o el direc - 2008-12-18 13:15:56 16856 (e)2711332 Failed to load certificate (/var/adobe/fms/conf/ssl/ssl.crt/certificate.crt) : error:2006D080:BIO routines:BIO_new_file:no such file - 2008-12-18 13:15:56 16856 (e)2631013 Failed to create listener for adaptor _defaultRoot_, IP , port -443: . - 2008-12-18 13:15:56 16856 (i)2631174 Listener started ( _defaultRoot__edge1 ) : localhost:4430/v4 - 2008-12-18 13:15:56 16856 (i)2581252 Registering core (16859). - 2008-12-18 13:15:57 16856 (e)2631114 Failed to start listeners f
Hi, I know the flash plugin uses the browser proxy settings. But is this still true if the browser is set to use PAC (proxy auto congifuration) files to do proxy settings? Thanks, Felix
I am just getting back into Flash after having been gone for about a year. I'd like to migrate from FCS to FMS and I'd like to use Actionscript 3.0. I have downloaded the demos but they are all using AS 2.0. Are there any tutorials for Flash Media Server communications components using Actionscript 3.0? I saw Stefan Richter has a book that covers FMS. Does that cover it? Thanks. Stephen Recker
We have the Flash Media Server 3.02 running on a Windows 2003 Server and we updated the mime types as suggested in Adobe's technical papers to take care of the Windows bug. However, we can not get the system to stream the F4V files we encoded with the Adobe Media Encoder CS4. We used a preset that came with the CS4 software F4V same as original and used the H.264 codec in the options. When we take the same source file and encode it as a FLV it plays fine. When we switch the extension to F4V it will not play. PLEASE HELP.. I am getting conflicting information from every support rep at Adobe. Thank you very much. JohnD@HDonlineCinema.com
I have used Flash Media Encoder and can stream to my account, but I want to do the same thing with Flash Media Server instead. I did not need scripts with FME as Justin provides a config file for FME including paths and user names so it just works. I have an app folder built and a main.asc, and the app fired up and says it is loaded, but it does not connect nor serve anything, I hacked a script together but am clueless. All I want it to do is to connect up to Justin and server any movies in the folder, and if the connection were to drop, to keep trying to reconnect forever (although this part is not in my hacked script yet). I'm sure my script is wrong, I have no experience with the language but read some and hacked the following together. Please take a minute and glance at it, I have posted on numerous other sites and have not gotten even one bad response yet. Thanks In this example I am just trying to get one file, test.flv to stream, but I want any files in the folder to strea
Hi, I have a flash client, which connects to FMS to play/record audio and video, but sometimes it closes the connection. The problem is that I can't detect any error, in the client, neither in the FMS logs. I noticed that this just happens with Flash Player 10, with Flash 9 it doesn't happen. What can cause this to happen, to make the Player disconnect? Does Bandwidth as something to do with this issue? thanks Fábio
We are looking to build a flash based app that runs on laptops at events, allowing guest to mash up drum tracks, guitar, piano, etc. to create a 20 second MP3 track. Then save and send their choices to the server associated with their info. They'll be sent an email to come to the web site and download the MP3 they created. Is Flash Media Server a proper tool to combine multiple audio tracks into one MP3 for download (on the fly? or batched). We may also combine that concept with a pre selected video track of the same length, and the final output would be an Mpeg or similar downloadable file for the consumer. If FMS is not the proper tool, any ideas? Thanks Tim
hello; other than the 10 simultaneous connections, are there any other limits placed on the free developer version of FMS; possibly there are bandwidth limits? other? thanks, Shannon
I have having a similar issue as this post: post I have 2 servers. 1 origin, and 1 edge. Video from the Edge server works fine. Buffers as it should, and plays back the video without issue. Video from the origin buffers all the time. The default buffer is 3 seconds. We have played around with different buffer sizes up to 20 seconds. Nothing seems to fix the issue. The bit rate for the videos is 800kbps in H.264 format. The max connection between server and client is 1.5mbps. So off the top of my head everything should be running smoothly. The weird part is that video from the origin was playing just fine, with no buffer issues, only a few weeks back. I haven't changed any configuration within FMS during that time. Anyone have any idea of what might be happening, or things to try? Also, the Edge server is just for testing right now so I do not want to use that to stream videos. Thanks.
Hi all, I get an very strange error when starting up flash client on our php page: ns: info.description: Invalid tincan object name (stream ID: 1). With this client I connect to an fms witch in turn gets a stream from an remote fms. In the dev envirement or just starting the swf on my desktop or running the movie on a html file local or on the server no probs. I use swfobject for the insertion of the flashmovies in the php pages. Strange thing that it worked before. anyone an idea? Thanx in advance 😉
Folks, I've looked around the site for quite a while now, and the differences between FMSS and FMIS are often very blurred, so I have some direct questions regarding capabilities and which version of FMSS I need. 1. Is FMSS capable of incorporating custom players or does that require FMIS? 2. Is FMSS capable of prompting for authentication (standard Username/Password) before starting a stream or does that require FMIS? We're just now getting to a point of purchasing our server, but putting requirements to one of the two products is proving difficult. Many thanks for folks helping out a noob.
I have a simple server-side app that creates a Stream, creates a NetConnection, and then plays a live stream from that NetConnection. I record the resulting stream into a file, say "recordstream.flv" When I get an UnpublishNotify, I stop recording. When I see NetStream.Record.Stop, I create a File object that points to recordstream.flv, and try to rename it to a different filename with File.renameTo(). This worked in FMS2, but not in FMS3. In FMS3, I get an error that the renameTo() failed. Interestingly, copyTo() the same new filename works, so it is not a directory protection issue or something like that. It appears that FMS3 is forbidding me from fiddling with the file; File.canRead returns false on the file. Is there any way to get FMS3 to release the file? Or should I give up and just use copyTo()?
