Media Server (read-only)

All: Operating a low traffic FMS (<50 concurrent connections) whose sole task in life is to accept incoming FLV audio streams and record them to disk. The store it places these on is mounted to a NetApp FAS3020C via NFS v2. The disks are a 150 gig fiberchannel raid6 array connected via gigE. Every 3 weeks or so, the FMS quits being able to write any data to the NFS mount, and the fmsadmin applet reports the CPU as bound at 100%. Logging into the RHEL4 machine hosting FMS (and nothing else) reports cpu load at or near 0.00, and the NFS array functioning normally (can add, remove files to the store from the command line). Any ideas? The application in question needs shared read-only access to the files that FMS creates, and occasionally purges those files by deleting them from the store (once per day, any files in the app_name/streams directory that is over 8 hours old). Hello all, due to the fact that I have not been able to publish in "flash 8" using the default FMS components (I get errors and can only publish for flash 6), I was wondering if anyone can tell me (or maybe show me a tutorial if there is any) on how to broadcast and recieve a webcam without using these default components. In an application where I do a recording from webcam to fms, sometimes I obtain this error in core.XX.log: (e)2581279 Assert failed in /modules/streams/flv/TCFLVData.cpp line 1202 - when it happens the effect client side is that I try to play a stream just recorded, and I see a stream of 0 seconds, with the command: stream.play(nomefile, 0, -1, true); often when I obtain this error the durantion of the stream from the media server is very different form the real one recorded. Hello, Is it possible to stream an FLV from FMS to a MediaDisplay component for playback? I know this can be done with the Video Object and with the FLVPlayback component. I explored the MediaDisplay class and it looks like it has the capability but I cannot find documentation on how to implement it. Thank you.

I'm converting an .avi to a .flv and am looking to third parties for encoding. The Flash 8 Video Encoder does not provide enough options to create a high quality .flv. So far I've tried Flix Pro, Swish, Turbine, Riva, Allock and Sorenson Squeeze. I have found that Sorenson Squeeze seems to provide the best output. What I'm really looking for is anyone who has experience with Sorenson Squeeze or anyother encoder and can provide input on why or why not this would be a good option for converting an .avi to a .flv. Any input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

Hello! I currently work on a supervision- and video-conference software with live-video based on flash player 8/9 and FMS2. For this purpose i planned to realize an overview and a fullscreen-view. Now I got this problem: I want to stream a full-size video to the FMS and then publish this stream in two different sizes (a little one for the overview and the big one for fullscreen-viewing) Is it possible to resize a live-stream directly on the server at runtime??

hi all, When capturing a webcam feed using FMS - is there any loss of information during the upload process? If my client has a limited uplink (for instance a poor DSL uplink bandwidth) - does the resulting FLV file will suffer from lost frames etc.? (is RTMP reliable or lossy) If not lossy- how does it works?? does Flash client buffer the recorded webcam feed on the client (because of the upload limitations)? where can I find more formal information about this (searched FMS docs with no luck), thx, Chen.

Hi there! i would like to create a dynamic rooms based on the number of registered users.. i mean , each member has a own room but the swf file will still be the same only the video, people chat and chat messages are unique. and also they all share the same rtmp. is it possible? thanks

Hello! I have a problem. I installed FMS2, and downloaded sample apps from the devcenter. I'm running Microsoft IIS and I can access http://myip/fms and go to any applications, the work just fine, I can see video. Now I try to use another computer on the network, I access the same URL, I see html, I click on application link, I see flash, but it doesn't connect to the server. The little black light on the flash application never turns green, and I don't see anything in the FMS logs on the server. What am I doing wrong? Thanks!!!

hi all; can i view a live video stream produced by windows media encoder? i mean there is a server broadcasting video and web clients with flash player. .

Anyone know how to get the client IP address? As part of the authentication/stats/logging system, we'd like to have all IPs stored in the database... but I can't for the life of me find out how to get it (searching the flash docs returned nothing, and google keeps bringing up people asking for IP in flash and then being told to use PHP/CF to do so...). There definitely has to be a a way to get the ip. Thanks.

Hi, I managed to create an Audio/Video Conference with 3 participant. The problem right now is how to record the conference. I already came up with a script that give a difference file name for example: userid_room_date_time So right now I have 3 difference recording file from 3 difference user. I need to create a client window that could watch the video recording of 3 people doing conference(the right user at the right room at the right time)...I hope you guys understand what I'm trying to do...does anyone have any ideas how to do this..Please!!!

I know I'm opening a can of worms here, but does anyone know of a comparison between Flash Media Server running on Windows 2003 and Redhat AS 4.0 (64 bit)? We are looking at getting an environment put together and would like to hear pros and cons for each. I'm interested in such things as stability issues, speed comparisons, load capacity, and administration complexity. I would also be interested in informal comparisons that people have done as long as it isn't a Windows or Linux bashing session. Thanks

Hey friends.. im a total newbie to Flash Media server.. i just started using this for the past 2 days..so, heres the problem im facing..i ve a simpleConnect component and a connectionlight component on my stage and i connect both of em..the connectionlight goes green when i test movie in flash(ie Ctrl+Enter).. but when i Publish(F12) it in a browser.. the light is red.. why isnt it connecting to the server when ublished in a browser?i hope u understand my problem..please Help me out.. Hi guys, seems I can connect ok locally but not from the internet. rtmp:/localhost/appname works great but when I try rtmp://ip/appname it does not, my firewall and router firewall have been disabled but still no luck. any ideas? thanks

We have 4x150 users licence, set to unlimited bandwith. We get these messages in event viewer: Connection rejected by server. Reason : [ License.Limit.Exceeded ] : (_defaultRoot_, _defaultVHost_) : Max connections allowed exceeds license limit. Rejecting connection to : our_app_name/. It appends a lot since the last few days, even before last update 2.0.3 At the same time, when we check the administration console, the number in the _defaultVhost is much lowe than 600, the maximum number of user that is allowed. Licences are all OK in the administration console. We have to restart the Flash server service to correct the problem. Please help...

Hello all, I have a fairly basic problem. I am attempting to stream a single FLV video file. The audio is all that I am able to get to play at this point. The video controls have no effect on the audio playback. Not many people seem to be having this problem from what I have read, so I am sure I am making a simple mistake, but I am stumped. Hello, I am streaming an FLV from FMS. There seems to be a delay from when the buffering period ends and when the FLV begins playback. I know that 'playing' state doesn't fire automatically when the FLV begins playback, but I can't figure out why there is a delay in between the buffer period and the start of playback. Any thoughts? Hi all, I'm having some nasty project ahead of me and customer is asking for a drawing board chat feature besides all features that normally goes with AV chat. So, my question is, does anybody have any expirience with this? Just to keep me from going in wrong way:) I know there is al least 10 ways to do it, so I just want to hear maybe what is the best way to start.
