Rudy, The above post is about exporting to "Publish Online" which is kinda like an epub, sorta. You can password protect it. There is no provision to password protect an InDesign document.

A subtlety that many miss is that if you override the text frame from parent to local page, you have to be careful not to move it--even a little bit, or else the update-ability of the parent to the override item will not seem to work.

Hi Bob, you make a good point. I retract the assertion of *easy*. However, once I learned to make Table and Cell Styles while nothing is selected, and only later apply from the top down, and then clear overrides, I got excellent productivity and a minimum of buggy-ness. But, yes, with 5 layers of potential attributes arguing for who will win out, Tables are challenging to comprehend.

Hi Maradr, It is easy to build and apply Table Styles as you File > Place tables from either Word or Excel. https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/using/table-cell-styles.html Once made, Table Styles can be re-used in new documents. The Table Styles panel menu button allows you to import them into your current document. I built the "Adobe InDesign 2025 style starter document" as an example and instruction about how to use and re-use styles.

Although I'm still confused by what maradr really wants, and I'm confused by his statement that updating the parent page doesn't affect the live pages... It seems to become a guessing game of "if I mistakenly do this and misunderstand the purpose of that, how can I get to an outcome I'm having a hard time describing that I really want?" Without directly seeing what your file contains, such is the limitations of this online forum. Maybe this thought will help: Did you know you can make Object Styles for text frames that define height and width and where on the page the frame sits?

Hey Adobe Stock, I so love the idea of browsing Adobe Stock for InDesign templates. Many of the templates are just beautiful. I imagine the great time savings I am about to enjoy. But then I begin to deal with paragraph and character styles in a state of confused overrides. Individual styles are defined in ways that they shouldn't. Layers are not employed in a consistent, usable way. Color-block frames are rotated 90 degrees for no reason. Parent pages disagree with document setups. Grid and guides need consistency. Frames don't cooperate with grids. A well-made template might also have notes that warn about the language the template was built in, the color model, the document preference settings, among other things. Two things are equally important in a template: The beautiful artistry of the layout and also the efficiency of the fundamental building blocks of long-document needs. Otherwise, it can lead a user to take longer to produce a finished piece. And that tends to nullify a principal reason to acquire a template from Adobe Stock in the first place, no?

Hi Endi, For what its worth, there has been a sharp uptick in the number of fellow users posting the same problem just in the last couple months. In this same webpage screen on the right is "Related Conversations" and many of them seem to be macOS users, from my reading. Other than ensuring to do what Bob already mentioned, I haven't yet seen a definitive answer to this emerging InDesign+OneDrive problem.

Hi Herbert, I keep reading that plugins using DeepL are pretty good at language translation. LangoAI has another version that works through DeepL. If you are going for volume and quick translation, this works well. The downside continues to be the perception of translation according to someone with fluency and native tongue in a given language. Are you still going to run the translated text past a native speaker?

Hi lordz, There are two features of InDesign that will capture the look and feel of a printed page being made in InDesign: 1. Paragraph Styles carry all the many choices of typesetting attributes for the text flowing across the pages. Text brought into InDesign via File > Place should next be dressed up with Paragraph Styles for attributes like typeface, point size, leading, and other attributes that influence the spacing and shape of the paragraphs. Smaller bits of text that get italicized or bolded are controlled by means of subservient Character Styles. 2. The Document Setup (and Parent Pages) is largely where you make the basic decisions about physical page size, margins width, and number of columns of that physical page.

Hi leed, I have seen that message when using a .inddc cloud document, but you don't mention what you are doing when this happens. If it really is popping up randomly, you might try resetting preferences (not resetting warning dialogs). There are four ways to approach resetting preferences, and this compendium of resetting/troubleshooting should guide you.

Hi BAS, My install on Windows 111 does that, too. Some have suggested making your custom workspace; and then going into the folder where it lives and manually renaming it Essentials. Upon restarting InDesign, it will default back to Essentials, but your custom workspace will be there. Other than that, I haven't discovered a fix for the annoyance, yet.

Many cloud-storage apps have some variation on "Make Available Offline" that has to be turned on. According to one person: "Select "Preferences" and then click on the "Account" tab. Make sure the "Files On-Demand" option is unchecked. This will ensure that all files are downloaded and available offline." Personally, I had so much trouble with OneDrive and its "takeover mentality" that I stopped using it and went to the trouble of removing it from my computer. It copies all your Documents folder and Desktop folder up to the cloud, and then fights with you to get the files back if you wish to end the relationship. Of course, many other people don't mind this, so simply finding where inside the software app service to "Make Available Offline" or something similar should help your situation.

If you want decorative art, you build it in either Illustrator or Photoshop and afterwards you File > Place that decorative border art into an InDesign document. So what you want is the Numbered list to define the first tab position in a paragraph style. In my example, notice how the left, first, and tab position are defined: Then, in Tabs section of the paragraph style, notice the second defined tab that makes the underscore: This second tab has underscore characters defined in it. There are no other tabs defined in the paragraph style. It is true that the Tabs panel is small and too fussy to aim your mouse at. Ever since PageMaker 1.2 it has been too small and fussy. And yes, the left indent (which you can shift-drag, btw) must equal the tab position, it cannot be ahead of the tab, or else it nullifies the tab. This is not a bug. To delete an existing tab, drag it downwards. I avoid using the Tabs panel by defining a paragraph style, and defining distances in the paragraph style options dialog box.

Thomas, You do have tab disagreement. Get rid of all the other tabs that are defined and content yourself with defining just the one that coincides with the hanging indent distance.
