I just upgraded my GTX 660 Ti (2gb) to an 8gb GTX 1080 as I noticed when editing 4k the GTX 660 TI was using all the video ram and figured the 1080 would definitely make a difference.  The upgrade to the GTX 1080 has shown Zero enhancement to rendering/exporting speed and little enhancement to realtime playback in the timeline (I tested some Boris FX BCC filters which are horrible at real time playback and take forever to render and export, more below).  I have ran several tests rendering the timeline and exporting, the results are very similar to what I got with the 660 TI.A 9 minutes timeline of 1080p plus 4k downscaled to 1080p is addition to lumetri color grading took about 10 minutes to export on both the GTX 660ti and the 1080. My processor is limited to PCIE 16x2.0 but that is still  way more than what the 1080 can output. I did a screen capture while rendering the timeline which show maxed CPU while GPU hovering between 0% to 10% load, I tried to capture it close

Hi,I'm about to buy a new iMac and the only thing left to figure out is the size of the SSD (I am getting a top-of-the-line 27" 5K iMac).  While editing, do you keep your project files and assets on the internal drive, or is it OK if I keep the project assets on the external drive while editing? My idea is to have the assets on the external drive using Thunderbolt 3.Thank you![Moderator note: moved to best forum]

I'm in the process of purchasing a new pc to use for editing although I am by no-means a computer expert so any advice on the following spec would be very much appreciated!I've been quoted for the following:Fujitsu Celsius M740 3.60GHz Intel Xeon 6 Core32GB RAM512GB SSD2TB Hard DriveNvidia Quadro P4000 8GB Graphics cardWindows 10This Graphics card is not on the approved list so does anyone know if it will work?!  Also, am I best sticking to windows 7 or going for windows 10?  Any advice would be gratefully received.  Thank you

Hi,I'm making the switch soon from a Mac/FCPX to PC/Premier Pro/After Effects. My Mac was basic, crappy video card, I upgraded the only thing I could - RAM, to 16Gb. It did me fine. I switched to 4k during and used proxies and everything was okay. Not brilliant, but okay. Now I'm planning on buying a PC and making the switch to Premiere and really want to delve into After Effects. I primarily make story based short films using a GH4 4k. But I'm struggling with what I'm going to need in terms of system spec.The 'specialists' at the online and local stores I've asked, when saying I want something that will run Premiere/AE and maybe Resolve without issue have always pointed me towards i7 (7700), 16Gb RAM and a GTX 1080, so for desktop alone I'm looking around £1500-£2000, which is fine if it will suit my needs. But the more I'm looking online the more I'm seeing issues with the GTX 1080/1070 cards that don't fair too well with AE.My needs are the programs I listed above and I'd like them

Hey guys,I have a newbie question.Before I ask I'd like to say - I really looked for an answer but there are tons of threads about that but not specifically THIS ONE.Is it normal that I get this HuGE frame drop when editing iPhone 7 plus 4k 100mbps 24fps footage?I mean you cant actually do anything.Even when I set the preview to 1/2 or 1/4.It's ok for about 1-2 secs and then it goes laggy as hell...So before I drown in all setting-up/tuning/tweaking threads maybe someone can just tell me:Is it normal?My specs areGeforce GTX 97032mb ram1x ssd 2x sshd Windows 10 64Premiere Pro CCI know it's not the best workstation on the planet but it seems pretty decent.Is proxy the only way for me or should I get better results from this machine?Thanks for your help in advance.K.

Hi guys, video editing noob here,so I'm looking for a rig capable of adequate 4K video editing in Premiere Pro/After Effects, and while I've done some reading online, I'm on a time-sensitive mission here, so I decided to ask you guys for some good advice!From what I gather from reading online, Premiere benefits more from processors with more cores, so one of the builds I'm looking at is this:Intel Xeon E5-2650 (2.0/2.8GHz, 20M)Nvidia Quadro 400032 GB DDR3 ECCNow, as far as I can tell, this is not the Quadro P/K 4000, but the older 2GB model. I can currently get this for $992, but am not sure whether that's a good price for what I'm getting. I'm also a bit worried about the RAM not being fast enough. The GPU can be replaced with something more powerful, but do you guys think this system is a good idea for Premiere Pro to begin with? I can also get a 2x Xeon E5-2620 / 64GB RAM but I think this may be a bit of an overkill.Or should I just go for an i7 instead? Something like this maybe:In

Hello,I'm rendering 4k footage, with multiple effects (After effects transitions, Magic Bullet effects (denoiser), sharpening, grades, correcting gopro distortions, etc... out with Media Encoder, set to high quality, h.264 100Mbit CBR. Original footage is h.264 4k, vbr.Is it 'normal' that nothing is maxing out in terms of GPU, CPU and memory?Everything is at 20% and I can't really find the bottleneck?Here's my setup:Ryzen 1700 (15-20% usage), spread over all cores16gb of ram (20-40% usage)GPU: RX480 16gb (29% vram usage)All temps are within range as far as I can see.Disks are barely being used from what I can see.Memory usage is set to 13gb, 3gb for other applications, and the render engine is GPU accelerated.Shouldn't at least one thing be maxing out and be the bottleneck?I basically have 75% of my system doing nothing when exporting? Hello,What would be the best config with these drives for good fast 4K editing (source is h264) and exporting?Drives: 250gb m.2 ssd for OS250gb SSD sata III ssd2tb 7200rpm HDD500gb 5200rpm HDD (old, i know, but i have it from a previous build)So, I'm thinking of:OS and programs on the m.2Cache AND scratch on the second sddMedia on the harddriveI'm thinking that putting the media on the harddrive might be the best solution (though not ideal?) since the size might be an issue for the SSD when it's also used for scratch and cache (thus storing preview files on the ssd)? I also read that pulling the media from another drive is better?Where should I export to? The Second SSD, or the Media drive? Or just export to the older slow drive which isn't doing much?Also: where should I keep my project files? Also on the 2tb drive? I have an Acer Predator laptop that has two graphics cards (Intel HD Graphics 530 and NVIDIA GeForce GTX980M).  Do I need to force it to use one of those for Adobe Premiere or After Effects, or will it automatically choose the best one?  If I do need to force it to use one of them, what would be the best way to do that?

I mentioned that my CPU temperatures were high in another thread a couple of days ago.  This is a 3930K using the Intel badged liquid cooling.  So I pulled it out this morning, and gave it a birthday, and while it did need doing, it was not desperate.  After cleaning and putting it back together again, the CPU was at 75°C on start up, and continued up to 90°C and cut out.  The fan is going, but I don't think the radiator was getting hot, so I'm thinking it is either the pump, or the liquid has warped into a parallel universe.Is that a reasonable assumption?  Is there any other way I can test the pump?  I assume the pump is integral to the block that attaches to the CPU, but as this is a closed system, I'm guessing there is no alternative to changing the entire thing?   The system only runs at stock nowadays,, and will be handed over to my wife as soon as I can get a new box put together [1], and she will only use it for the Internet (although she

Is anyone out there editing on a new 27-inch iMac withan AMD Radeon Pro 580 GPU? I'm researching to upgrade an edit system. Going PC is not an option, and I am focused on finding a solid mac platform for HD and 4K editing. While Apple is getting ready to release an iMac Pro and new Mac Pro later this year, no specs are available. The best stop gap measure I can come up with is to explore purchasing the currently available 27-inch iMac. Sadly, the GPU offering is not listed here: Adobe Premiere Pro System Requirements Does anyone have personal experience with this GPU and Premiere? Or Adobe can you chime in? Hi folks! Preview I was using Adobe Premier CC 5.5 and CUDA support working excellent. Now, I'm on Premiere 2017 Pro, payment license 1 year. My symptoms are to not obtain a yellow process line in my timeline edit area. When not obtain this color in process line over recording clips, it means my hardware system are not using my CUDA option, and rendering are slow motion i work issue. My GPU card Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 have this CUDA SUPPORT and function. Also, my working edit are not smoothly in process.   During editing of video clips, chopped changes are encountered during playback, all the reasons that my GPU card is not set up correctly for CUDA support. I recently made a similar question, sorry for that, but it has a little different variable.1 SSD for the OS and apps and 1 Nvme for files, cache, renders and exports is the way to go but...what if I had more SSDs available? Is it a good idea to spread files, cache, renders and/or exports to any other (slower) ssd (keeping something in the Nvme of course)?I mean, will using more sata SSDs help the Nvme with tis workload?

With my recent purchase of a GeForce GTX 1060, I am beginning to feel that my main rig is due for a refresh. My original plan is to move the GTX 1060 from my i5-6500 mini-ITX breadbox to my main i7-4790K tower, and then getting a GeForce GTX 1050 Ti for the breadbox. This will retire the Maxwell GPUs in both systems in favor of the Pascal successors. Shall I go along with this original plan?Or shall I do a major platform upgrade/update for my main tower? This will cost me so much more money that I may have to hold off on or even forego a GPU upgrade/update for one of my PCs. (Remember, my funds are limited even after receiving an income tax refund for 2016.) If I do so, shall I choose one of the 6-core Intel CPUs or an AMD Ryzen CPU? We would like suggestions on upgrading two identical PCs.  (Hardware is not our strength, nor is the hardware lingo, so please take these descriptions and word choices with a grain of salt.  We will have a local hardware expert do the rebuild and set up.)  We edit HD (and potentially higher) projects that typically exceed two hours.  We also use Lightroom for processing images with file sizes typically at 40 – 50 meg.  We just added an 80T NAS (with other NAS backups) that has 10G LAN speed, but we currently only have a 10/100/1000.  We process the images from the NAS.  We typically store the video files on the NAS, but copy them to a local drive while editing.  For short video projects, we’ve been able to edit leaving the files on the NAS.  We are adding an Nvidia Quadro P5000 to drive new 10 bit monitors and for video processing.The mobo is a Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD5, with a Core i7 950 @3.07GHz, and 12 GB RAM.  The mobo can support only

I am about to edit a huge project and want to know if others have allotted separate hard drives for their editing workflow. I am using a 6TB Lacie Thunderbolt d2 to store all of my media. Should I use my other 4TB hard drive to edit with as well? So for instance, the 6TB for reading and the 4TB for writing? How do others divide their media cache files? Most of my media are .mov files from a 5D3 with a few mixed formats, such as EX1 footage and iPhone and GoPro. Currently, I have my 6TB Thunderbolt attached to my MacBook Pro and rendering times are obnoxiously long - every time I make a change to a single clip on the timeline, long rendering times start all over and I can't get any work done. I just bought the new 2017 27" iMac and it's been awhile since I've edited video. I have a slew of 2013ish LaCie hard drives that have firewire 800 and USB 3.0 (b type) outputs that have plenty of room on them for editing and I'd like to continue using them before buying new hard drives. I only have firewire cables, and I couldn't find a firewire 800 to thunderbolt 3 adapter, so now I'm daisy-chaining Firewire 800-Thunderbolt 2-Thunderbolt 3. How stupid is this and what would you recommend aside from buying all new hard drives with thunderbolt. Is USB 3.0 the better way to go?
