Question

Elodie Pérat, I completely understand how frustrating it can be when Video models interpret a prompt differently than expected, especially when it's eating into credit balance with multiple attempts.

To clarify how the credits work: they're deducted when a generation runs, not based on whether the result matches your vision, so a video that generates successfully but drifts from your prompt still uses the credit, even though I know that's not the outcome you wanted. Credits are only automatically returned when a generation fails outright (an error, a timeout, etc.), not when the output is just off-target.

That said, there are a few adjustments that tend to cut down on the number of retries needed, which is really where the credits add up:

    • Describe the full result you want, not what to avoid. The models still struggle with negative instructions, telling one "don't change the background" often makes it fixate on "background" and touch it anyway. Stating the complete scene you want in positive terms gets more consistent results.

    • Be specific rather than general. Vague prompts leave more room for the model to guess, and video especially tends to wander when there's ambiguity about motion, camera behavior, or pacing.

    • Match the model to the job. Different models handle prompt adherence and motion differently, so if one keeps missing the mark on a particular type of shot, switching models in the settings is worth trying before re-running the same one. How to pick the right model for your project

    • Skip on-screen text in the generation step. Text and symbols rendered directly by the model are inconsistent even when the prompt quotes them exactly, adding text afterward as a separate step is more reliable.

For prompting fundamentals, these two are worth a look:

If you want to post the specific prompt that wasn't following through, I'm glad to take a look and see what might be adjusted.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Allow me to clarify how credits are handled in Adobe Firefly

    • Credits are deducted immediately when you click “Generate.”

    • If the generation fails and you see an error, the credits are automatically refunded AFTER the error occurs. This applies to all errors, there are no exceptions.

    • If you notice that credits were not returned after an error, this usually indicates that a generation did complete successfully. In that case, you can check under Files > Generation History to see if the video was stored there.

Regarding the generation errors such as "something went wrong" message, please note that an error can be caused by multiple reasons (such as prompt issues, image specifications, or server-side glitches). Therefore, providing us with your exact workflow and screenshots is our only way to effectively help you troubleshoot this.

Additionally, so we can investigate this thoroughly and see if any improper credit deductions took place, please let us know:

    • How many credits did you have before generating the 3 videos?

    • How many credits do you have left right now?

    • How much did each video cost to generate? (You can share the public link of each generation to determine that on our side)

These details will helps us look into this. Let us know what you find.
