Currently tracking the mouse movement for eye gaze is relative to the middle of the screen, not the actual eyes or head of the puppet. So if the puppet is not in the middle, you have to use a bit of effort to work out where the middle is. This is a bit painful during a recording. (It's not terrible, more annoying.)Also, if you added this "eyes track mouse/touch" option, it would be nice to add a "eyes track independently" option, so the two eyes look exactly at the position of the cursor, allowing the puppet to go cross eyed. It gives a more control over depth perception (and can more easily create humorous cross eye situations).I am going to try and work around it by creating two independent eye gaze behaviors and record them separately, otherwise just splice it in after effects/premier pro. I only need it for a few seconds. But I thought I would mention it as a suggestion as it felt like a fairly common thing - e.g. you can arm 3 puppets concurrently and have their eyes all track a f
I queue up say 20 scenes to be rendered via media encoder (using CTRL-M in Ch), then go off and do something else. When I come back, I have a page full of character animator processes, hogging memory. It is like they are not exiting at the end of a render, so eventually the computer runs out of memory. Exiting Media Encoder causes the processes to exit (and memory is freed up). Does this look like a bug? It means I cannot queue all the scenes in one hit and leave the computer on overnight to complete the render. (I think my episodes take about 4 hours to render on my lightweight laptop.)Alan
Can you show other movements besides walking or running, but instead laying down or just show the puppet already laid?
Hi! I'm trying to create an animation on Adobe Character Animator, but one of the scenes includes the puppet lying in bed. How can I make my puppet lie down? All of the tutorials I've watched are of puppets walking and/or doing other gestures.
Hello I have several problems in the Character Animator software, firstly I have a character who needs to have an arm so the shoulder is behind the beard, but the hands can go over the beard, I fixed the problem by making a copy of the arm, I erased a part on a layer and another part on the other layer, which causes me other problems. Since it is not possible to have all the animated arms to make the animations in the same file as the arms (by default) some of them need to be behind the body of others over the body and even certain to the middle. The arms (by default) do not disappear automatically when I activate the animation using a trigger, I tried to do cycles layers to make them disappear, but, either they disappear at the end of the animation and did not reappear, or the arm reappears before the end of the animation when you release the trigger. Is there a way to make something disappear with a given time after the trigger or any other solutions? Is it normal that when I add (ot
Hi,I have a puppet with a smile trigger. I also added a head turn with a smile triggered to the head turn. The smile works in front view but when I press the head turn trigger the smile doesn't work. It seems if I use the head turn trigger, none of the other triggers works. Am I missing something or ss there a trick to this?
When I add my character to AE and remove the black screen using Linear color key.. My characters pupils become see through.. and other parts also become see through. Please help
Hi everyone,I'm trying to create my first custom puppet, and I can't seem to get the mouth shapes to respond. Can anyone guide me in the right direction? I've uploaded a PSD of my character layout here:Main Puppet-Small Export.psd - Google Drive Any help would be greatly appreciated - I've followed the tutorials on youtube, but can't seem to figure this one out. Thanks in advance!
can anyone help pleasei just have a head character - the arms ive attached in the same way as hair - and can get a nice dangle - but as soon as i add a draggable fuction so i can use the arms - the dangle disappearshelpmany thanks
I have created a character and named all my layers just like the examples given in Character Animator and the face is not responding with pupil movement, eyebrow movement or blinks. Also the mouth swaps don't seem to correspond to what I am saying. I don't see the "F" shape when I say an F word or any of the other shapes when I say anything. I hope someone can take a look at my puppet and tell me what I am doing wrong. What is the best way to put my puppet up on the forum to look at. Thanks.
My laptop crashed (blue screen of death!) and after restarting I got the infamous "libgit2 error" on the project. I have a backup from a day ago, but I put a fair bit of effort into it since then, so thought I would see if any way to repair it before losing that work.Another thread mentioned creating the "objects" directory, but its already there.Anything else I can try before restoring from backup? Is the "repo.noindex" directory a git repository (like the .git directory using by git command lines). Does that mean I can use command line git tools to try and repair the directory?
Wondering if anyone has done a slithering snake in CA. If so, anything you can share on how you did it would be great. ThanksMaurice
Hello, Adobe Friends.I created a swap set for mouths so I could have a frownie mouth and a grimacing mouth. The mouths all show up in the Controls panel, and all of the CH "established" mouths work, but my Frown and Grimace do not (even though they are picked up by the controls...they have icons and everything.)Is there something I am missing here? (Probably!) Thank for any help that can be provided.
If you are getting the following error message when trying to install or update Character Animator: Sorry, installation failed We are unable to move the file. Please rename the file, then try again. (Error Code: 146) More information (Clicking "More information" might show an Exit Code: 146 error, with a "WARN: Failed to move directory" line that references a target directory inside the '/System/Library/Components/PDFImporter.component'.)Try the following steps to resolve the issue:Restart your machine, then attempt the installation/update again. If that doesn't solve the issue, uninstall Character Animator first via the Creative Cloud application (for the Character Animator CC entry, click the button to the right of the Open button, then choose Uninstall). Then, reinstall Character Animator. If that still doesn't solve the issue, please contact Customer Support for ass
Can you currently make your puppet walk forward towards the camera? I haven't been able yet to figure this out and wonder if we've only got left and right so far.Martin
I just wanted to draw people's attention to what I think is a serious problem...I had a side-view puppet that just was not working. I tried every which way to fix it, changing the independence of the head, the body, the limbs, and every possible combination of them all. I tried changing the layer order, connection points, attach styles, removing parts, etc.I could sometimes get some of it working, but there were always some parts not connecting right: legs were not connecting to the torso. Arms weren't connecting to the torso. One arm wouldn't connect, the other would. Parts were connecting to the wrong things. The head was distorting weirdly. Parts were moving out of alignment when I moved the puppet. I got some parts connected right, but then I couldn't drag them independently etc. After spending literally days and days trying to get this puppet working I had all but given up, then I tried one last thing:In my Photoshop file, under the Body group, I had nested all the body parts under
Hi,After uploading my character to CH, I added it to a new scene, but it remains blank.Thanks.
Is it possible to add a custom viseme so I can manually add it in when I'm editing visemes? The reason I ask is that I'd really like to have a viseme for K.I know we're probably supposed to use one viseme for L, K and N - as they all have similar mouth placement. But IMHO the tongue placement is quite different. For example, If you say the word "color" over and over, you'll feel your tongue going up and down between the K and L consonants. So a character with a special K viseme could say "color" a lot clearer. There are other custom visemes I might like to add too, including SH, TH, N, T and Y (I could give details of why, if anyone's interested), but K is the main one I feel is missing.
Does Parallax work on the mouth of puppets? If I set to 1000%, I can see it move the eyes a bit and the nose a lot, but I cannot see any mouth movement at all.I tried the Bongo puppet as well (comments suggest it has "parallax mouth") - but I cannot see its mouth moving there either (with parallax set to 1000%). The nose moves (top half of Bongo's mouth), but no parallax movement of mouth that I can detect on Bongo or any other puppets I try. Am I missing something?Parallax looks quite cute, except if the eyes and nose moves and the mouth does not, it looks a little strange.
I keep getting the following error "type error: cannot read property 'trigger' of undefined Error code: (Adobe.CycleLayers.js:83)" before I actually get to the most critical part of my bird flapping it's wings up and down. Help please. I am trying to finish this project but I'm stuck.
Which physics or trick could give me a smoother more realistic back and forth springy sway?
Greetings!Just updated CH to the CC18 to try out the new physics behaviors. The SAMPLE physics puppet is cool, but as soon as I change ANYTHING in the PDS, the physics cease. I've restarted, refreshed, re-imported the fresh physics puppet; same problem every time. To recreate this problem:Download the Physics puppet.Import into CH.Open the CH Media > Gathered Media > PhysicsPlayground.psdMake any change (hide & show a layer.)Save it.Return to CH. It automatically updates the file.Physics stop working... no gravity. No movement. I can drag some items which collide with SOME items, but not all. Green puppet loses limbs, which eventually return to him. Anyone have any suggestions?Thank you!
I know I'm always asking here what I will eventually find after I've watched all the tutorials, but how do I move my puppet around the screen into a scene. I do know how use the Transform settings to set a position. So I'm that far along.Martin
Just sharing a little experiment in case interesting to anyone - a bit of fun. The ever helpful OK Samurai pointed me recently at Character Animator Examples, "Additional Puppet Resources", Dan's 2017 MAX class. An interesting set of exercises showing a few techniques I had not tried before. So I used a couple of these ideas to knock up a 30 second butterfly and poppies video. I wrote up a summary of what I did here. For detailed instructions, see Dan's notes at the link above. My blog just summarizes some of the features I used.
A few quick questions (these are not big issues, and I'm only seeking quick answers, thanks)...1. Pinning stuff togetherIs there any way to pin two dangling parts together? I'd simply like my character wear a skirt that blows in the wind, but the front and rear parts of the skirt don't stay together at the edges.2. EyelidsIn the face tagger, I notice there are tags for "top eyelid" and "bottom eyelid". What are these used for? I've seen loads of videos about blinking and eyebrows, but nothing about eyelids.3. Eye widenessWhen you make a new puppet, by default it copies how wide your eyes are, but as soon as you add a blink layer, this feature is lost. That's a shame as it allows loads of facial expression. Is there any way to have a blink layer AND get it to copy your eye wideness?4. More rigid bodyIn Character Animator, when I move my character's head, it causes the body to sway all over the place, while the neck remains fairly stiff. Is there any way to change this, so that the shoul
