Please help me understand what adobe is getting rid of and why there are two different sync folders

What is Creative Cloud Synced files (internally known as CC Files)?

Creative Cloud Synced files was introduced in 2013 for customers to store, backup, sync, and share documents created using Creative Cloud applications. It places a “Creative Cloud Files” folder on the user’s local machine, enabling them to save or add documents locally, which are synced to Adobe’s cloud storage.

The contents of the “Creative Cloud Files” folder are synced (copied) to the user's cloud storage via a process that runs on the local device. Files can be accessed locally on the device through the Creative Cloud Files folder or via the Creative Cloud website within the Launch more menu, Synced files option. This has provided customers with the ability to have a cloud-based backup of their files which can be accessed on the Creative Cloud website.

Also, Creative Cloud Synced files has the ability to share folders and files with others and has been used as a vehicle for collaboration.

Lastly, Creative Cloud Synced files is integrated into many of Adobe’s mobile applications (examples Ps Express, Rush, Fresco, etc.), and is used as a vehicle to transfer files across devices.

 Why are we discontinuing Creative Cloud Synced files?

CC Synced Files provides generalized cloud storage capabilities which is not aligned with Adobe’s strategy of creative collaboration. Adobe will continue to invest in purpose-built services for creatives to access their creative work across devices and apps, and to enable collaboration with other creatives and stakeholders.

Consistent customer feedback is that CC Synced files presents a confusing user experience. Over 99% of CC base MAU, and 97.5% of CC application MAU on desktop, do not actively use CC S

What happens to the “Creative Cloud Files” folder on my users' local devices?

Files will remain in the “Creative Cloud Files” folder and will not be removed during this process. Shared folders and their content will still be accessible on your local device but no longer synced with other users.

Users should sign-in to Creative Cloud and ensure that File Syncing is on to get the latest files synced to their local device before desktop sync is discontinued.

· Desktop sync will be discontinued starting Oct 2024 for CCE and CCT users

· Desktop sync will be discontinued starting Feb 2024 for CCI users

 Is there a migration path for customers?

Adobe will not provide a direct migration path for file syncing and there is no direct replacement product or service. Users can adopt Cloud Documents, Libraries or Frame.io, depending upon their needs.

If the customer needs a direct replacement, they will need to migrate to a 3rd party solution (like Dropbox or Box) for backup and sync capabilities. We suggest evaluating third-party solutions for cloud-based backup and file sharing.

 Is there an Adobe alternative for customers?

Adobe offers a number of cloud-based solutions tailored to your needs. Cloud documents, available in Photoshop, Illustrator and Fresco, enable saving and access to your work across desktop, mobile and web surfaces. Creative Cloud Libraries, available in Creative Cloud applications and Adobe Express, enable organization, reuse and sharing of brand and creative assets. Frame.io, included in most Creative Cloud subscriptions, supports sharing, storage, and review of a broad range of file types on web and mobile.

Cloud Documents

Cloud documents are cloud-native files that you can open and edit in compatible apps. With cloud documents, your work is always updated, across every device, wherever you are. Compatible apps include Photoshop, Illustrator, Fresco and Adobe Express. Cloud documents also allow you to save your work from one compatible app and open them in another compatible app without losing any fidelity. Autosave allows you to view any past version of your document quickly.

Creative Cloud Libraries

Creative Cloud Libraries let you gather design elements for specific projects, clients, or teams for use within Creative Cloud apps and Adobe Express. Libraries help ensure you and your team access the same brand elements for a project throughout its lifecycle Gather, organize, and share brand assets created in various apps for a project or client – from color palettes, character styles, logos, mnemonics, or approved imagery.

Frame.io

Frame.io offers web and mobile sharing, review, and approval of creative files from videos to images to PDFs and more. Upload any filetype at lightning speed. Organize and share with creative partners so everyone on your project has access to the right media when they need it. Share custom branded presentations and review links to gather stakeholder feedback. Access that feedback in Creative Cloud apps like Premiere and easily send out another version for approval.

When will content in Creative Cloud Synced files be deleted?

· Starting January 2025, we will being purging all the cloud-copies of CCI Creative Cloud Synced files

· Starting February 2025, we will being purging all the cloud-copies of CCE/T Creative Cloud Synced files

· If an org has escalated and asked for additional time to migrate their users and content, June ‘26 is the hard cut-off date for any Creative Cloud Synced files support

What are the implications on other Adobe storage products like ESM, Libraries, Cloud Docs or Frame.io?

There is no impact to the ESM migration, and it will continue as planned.

There is no impact on Cloud Docs or Libraries, or our plans to introduce Projects.

There is no impact on Frame.io.

What are the implications for Adobe applications?

All Adobe applications will be removing their integrations for Creative Cloud Synced files targeting June 2024. This includes all mobile applications (like Rush, Ps Express, etc.), and desktop applications with specific integrations with CC Synced files (like Premiere Pro and Photoshop).
