I am unable to open newly purchased ebooks with Digital Editions. Windows XP, SP2, firewall and anti-virus turned off. Not behind any firewall.

Adobe DRM Error
System: 7
State: 4
Class: 5
Code: 31
Message: Your Adobe software could not be activated. HTTP error on Adobe DRM Activator request. Adobe DRM Activator error (client code 31; HTTP code 555).
Fault location: 5

What are my alternatives? I am unable to open these books in Adobe Reader 7.0 or (of course) 8.1.

Adobe isn't working very hard. I got a response today saying "please describe exactly the error message". Since I already had described exactly the error message, I sent back a jpg of the screen giving that error message. Have you ever noticed that companies that don't know the answer ask lots of redundant questions because they are stalling for time, not knowing the answer?

Thanks Philo. Any idea on the timeline they'll fix the issue?

    Thanks again,

Tried re-installing all adobe apps. and also tried deleting and adding library items, but still the same problem.

"Customer service transferred me to tech support who transferred back to customer service."

Sorry about that. It's a glitch that we're working to address. We DO support DRM errors in tech support! As to de-activating an old machine, that is something that customer service DOES do. So please post back your case numbers and I'll have someone work on them.

Customer support does not support this, as I just discovered after Digital Edition tried to update and now cannot be used (with error that it cannot be activated). Customer service transferred me to tech support who transferred back to customer service. They couldn't help. Error message: E_ADEPT_IO ActivationService Info Error%20#2032. I guess you get what you pay for.

    Fortunately Reader still works.

How do I fix this, I can't open an eBook I've purchased from diesel e books and their books can only be viewed using adobe version 7. This message comes when the program is authorizing the eBook.

There are two possibilities, one that you have some firewall or proxy that is mangling your HTTP headers or two, that you have used your activations.

    See the info here:
