Trying to uninstall CC on Mac and still use CS6

I no longer have a subscription to CC.

No matter what I have tried in uninstalling CC from my MacBook Pro running El Capitan (10.11.6), when I try to use a CS6 app, I get a message telling me to renew my CC subscription. I should not need a CC subscription to use CS6!

Currently, in CC Desktop, all apps except Acrobat DC are showing either "Try" or "Install" -- indicating to me that they have been successfully uninstalled.

Acrobat DC remains in CC Desktop even though I uninstalled it from Finder.  In CC Desktop, it says Uninstall Unavailable.  I also tried just dragging it to trash, but it continues to show in CC Desktop even then.

Things I have done:

I individually uninstalled each CC app and Acrobat DC using the uninstall links in Finder.

There was one app, Dreamweaver CC, that didn't have an uninstall link.  Tried just dragging that to the trash.  Didn't help, so I dragged it back into Applications.  If I try to open it, it says it can't be opened, and may be damaged or incomplete.  Dreamweaver CC, like other apps, appears uninstalled in CC Desktop.

I also downloaded and ran the CC Cleaner app (Creative Cloud Uninstaller).

I tried uninstalling CC desktop, but still could not successfully run a CS6 app.

I reinstalled CC desktop. As I said before, it shows all the CC apps except Acrobat DC uninstalled, and Acrobat DC uninstall unavailable.  Maybe I don't really need to uninstall Acrobat DC.  It seems to be working, so I'm guessing it's not considered part of the CC suite?

Please advise!  Thank you!

Read Cloud takes over https://forums.adobe.com/thread/2089127 for some ideas (see reply #1)

-includes information on how to stop the update manager and/or Cloud from running at startup

-above is for Windows, but may help with ideas for Mac

Thank you, John T Smith. I think this may be helpful.

You mention deactivating CS6.  I found these instructions on deactivating: How can I deactivate my Adobe software?

But they say to go to help > deactivate.  This seems to assume I can open the CS6 app, which I can't.

I see a link in Finder for *uninstalling* each CS6 app.  I guess I need to uninstall instead of deactivating?  Then go to this link and download CS6 again?  Download Adobe Creative Suite 6 applications

BTW, on my Mac, CC Desktop does not show up among programs loaded at startup.  (System Preferences > Users and Groups > Login Items)  So I'm not sure that Windows strategy is going to work for the Mac.
