Hi All,

Recently I bought a new Mac book pro 10.13.6 High Sierra. I have installed Adobe illustrator cc 2018 and recently I updated it to Illustrator CC 2019.

After updating its Opening a file and saving files are extremely very slow. I feel like I'm working in Illustrator 8. Any solution for this?

I did have the problem once. It seems that "keep the previous preference" (or whatever it actually says) during updating from the older Illustrator version is the main culprit. But now it runs so well and without having any problems. Here's what I did:

  1. Uninstall Illustrator v.23.
  2. Install the earlier version.
I did try reinstalled the v.23 again, and the problem still occurred. So I installed the earlier version instead (I installed the first CC version, v.17). And then...
  3. Reinstall Illustrator v.23. In advanced menu, uncheck that says keeping the previous preference, and don't remove the older version.
  4. See whether your Illustrator v.23 works normally.

Hope it helps.

I just installed Mojave and then installed the Illustrator CC update.  I'm in the same boat as you guys.  Super slow lag.  It takes forever to start up, then saving and other issues arise.

If I copy an image in photoshop and then try to paste it into illustrator (like I've done a million times in the past), illustrator just freezes and I get a spinning orb of chaos until I have to force quit and restart illustrator.

Please fix this.  I work in illustrator all day, daily, I need it running and like normal and fast.

Did you already try and deactivate Speech dictation in the system?

Yes, I've turned that off.  Illustrator is still crippled.  I try doing simple things that I've been doing for a decade and it goes into spinning wheel and freezes.  This is a little ridiculous.  My work day has been shot.

Sigh. Thought it was my mouse then restarted my Mac. Typing is painfully slow.

Obviously an Adobe problem - I'd think a 10 core iMac Pro with a Vega 64 and 64GB of Ram should manage a bit of typing ok. Hoping for an update soon.

Its a crap

it only helps if i shut down my internet connection

i have also a problem with "save for web" in photoshop what isn't solved yet.

I don't know what Adobe is doing, but mabey its smart to do more Beta versions

Same problem here. No solution so far.

And this is not the only thing that doesn't work in the 2019 version.

This can't be my problem, or the problem of my machine.

It costs me time an money.

Just fix these kind of bugs before you release a new version and suggest to install it!

I am having the same issue with Illustrator since the 2019 update. When I first updated InDesign, Illustrator and PhotoShop they were all super slow. So I uninstalled them and reinstalled the previous versions until a couple of days ago when the older versions became sluggish as well. Reinstalled newest versions and InDesign and Photoshop are great but Illustrator is a disaster.

It is doubling the amount of time it takes me to finish projects to meet deadlines this week and its infuriating to think of the time I have wasted watching the pinwheel spin while trying to move a text box. I tried henryc's suggestion yesterday and it didn't change anything. Whatever bug Illustrator has needs to be fixed yesterday.

If anyone has any other suggestions I am will try anything at this point.

Illustrator lag has been driving me crazy for months. Today I went to Illustrator Preferences - Performance and ticked the GPU Performance box. All lag issues resolved instantly.

Hope this helps someone else.

GPU box does not help me. I have huge lag after press Ctrl+S: I wait for minutes to open Illustrator dialog window that asks me about version, create pdf, including linked files and others... This same happens when I want to place a linked file. After press ctrl+shift+p waiting and waiting... Next problem: "flying" panels. Sometimes when I click on them, it appears on other part of screen...

This situations DO NOT EXIST IN ILLUSTRATOR 22.1 !

I'm mainly having issues when trying to work with type in Illustrator CC19. It's VERY slow and hard to use. I tried turning off dictation, but that didn't seem to do anything...

I confirm that problem - new Illustrator is very slow during saving work AND during refresh linked modified files, notably psd files

Waiting for patch...

I noticed that saving and updating of Vector Smart Objects is OK, fast and not laggy...

Although illustrator 2018 worked fine with all my fonts.  I removed all fonts windows would let me, then illustrator 2019 started up very quick, just like it used to.

my problem on windows 10 system was a font problem that illustrator 2018 diddn’t seem to have.

Same problem here - since updating to 2019, Illustrator has become all but useless, taking excessive time to open and save anything. This is seriously affecting my business and I want to know what Adobe plan to do about it and how soon.

I'm sorry Monika, it's not clear if you are replying on behalf of yourself  or Adobe, but if I follow your Contact Customer Care link and log into my account, the only option I appear to be offered is a 'Community Chat' - I am paying for a 6-member team licence every month and I would expect at the very least to be offered the option for a phone call or a web chat.
