InDesign 2026 – adding Serbian Cyrillic hyphenation dictionary

Hello,

I’m working with Adobe InDesign 2026 on macOS and need proper hyphenation for Serbian Cyrillic.

In earlier InDesign versions it was possible to add custom Hunspell dictionaries (.aff/.dic) via the Presets/Dictionaries folders, which would then appear in the Language menu and enable hyphenation.

In InDesign 2026 I can no longer find a Presets/Dictionaries folder inside the application bundle, and placing valid Hunspell files (e.g. sr_Cyrl_RS.aff / sr_Cyrl_RS.dic) in user-level dictionary folders has no effect. No Serbian language option appears in the Language list after restarting the application.

My questions:

  1. Does InDesign 2026 still support adding new spelling/hyphenation languages via custom Hunspell dictionaries?

  2. If yes, what is the exact supported method and folder location on macOS?

  3. If not, is Serbian Cyrillic planned to be added officially in a future update, or is there an alternative Adobe-supported workflow for adding new languages?

  4. Is this behavior specific to certain builds of InDesign 2026?

    I suppose just placing the dictionary files are not sufficient, we have to make entry in the info.plist as well. Did you do that?

    Thank you for the advice.

    I followed the steps you suggested, as well as the instructions from the link you provided. The process was very complex, but I managed to complete it.

    However, after making those changes, InDesign completely stopped performing hyphenation in any language, and the application also became noticeably slower and unstable.

    Because of that, I had to revert everything back to the original state in order to restore a functional version of InDesign.

    Interesting so back to one more experiment. Can you see if this is problem with 2026 version or it happens with previous versions as well. If possible try with a different language so that we can rule out problems/issues related to Serbian dictionary files
