InDesign Copy and Paste Problem

I'm using InDesign 2021 to copy and paste within the same document.  I'm highlighting text with the text tool, then copying (Cntrl C) and pasting (Cntrl V) on existing text. However, upon pasting, instead of the existing text being replaced, a new text box is created with the text that was copied -- and it lands randomly (anywhere) on the page. Is this a bug or is it some setting that I need to change?

This sounds like some kind of user error. Are you selecting text to be replaced or just inserting your curser in a frame?

Hi Bob,

I've been using InDesign for a long time. I'm not doing anything different with regards to copy and paste. This issue started with InDesign 2021. Yes, I am highlighting (selecting) the text to be replaced.

Thanks,

Marquin

Sorry, we get all levels of users here.

Have you tried trashing your preferences? Is it only one file? If so, try the IDML route.
