Indesign Pages Panel not showing thumbnails (A preview of my design on each page)

I have been to - Panel options - and checked 'view thumbnails.' But that did not fix the issue

I'm using InDesign 2025. Everything is latest update. I've been using Indesign for around 10 years and am pretty good at it

Unfortunately clearing the cache has not worked as hoped. Now im getting blanks when I add new pages. See attached

@Ed.allanby

Maybe your file got corrupted - try IDMLing - export as IDML, open, save with a new name - do not overwrite your original file.

I am unable to IDML. I think it is because there is a bug with the auto activate adobe font. the IDML export is stuck on 'queued' in the task manager (see screenshot).

I have turned off 'auto-activate adobe fonts' in file-handeling but that has not helped.

I do not believe my file is currupt because when I start a new file I have the same problem. See attached

Problems within panels and the interface can often be fixed by deleting your InDesign caches. This is not the same as deleting preferences.

To delete caches on a Mac:

The User Library folder in which InDesign’s cache files are stored is hidden by default on most Macintoshes. To access it make sure that InDesign is closed and click on the desktop to launch a Finder Window (Command-N). With this window in column view follow the path User>Home folder (it’s the folder with an icon that looks like a house—it may have the user’s name rather than “Home”) and click on the Home folder. With the Option Key pressed choose Library from the Finder Go Menu. “Library” will now appear within the Home folder. Within the Library folder find the “Caches” folder. Within the Caches folder find and delete the entire folder “Adobe InDesign”. I find that deleting the InDesign cache folder completely leads to a lasting change.

Thank you Bill - that seemed to work

Hi @Ed.allanby,

Thanks for reaching out! I understand the frustration with the Pages Panel not showing thumbnails.

To better assist, could you please provide the following details:

  • What operating system are you using (macOS or Windows, and the version)?
  • Is this happening with just one file or all InDesign files?
  • When did this issue start occurring?

Additionally, have you tried resetting the InDesign preferences? This can often resolve display-related issues. If you haven't, you can reset preferences by following the instructions here: Reset InDesign Preferences.

Let me know how it goes, and I’ll be happy to assist further!

Thanks,

Abhishek Rao

Hi Abhishek

- MacOS Sonoma 14.4
- All files
- First noticed on monday

I am hesitant to reset preferences as I use a number of custom settings that take a fair amount of time to input.

@Ed.allanby

What custom settings are you talking about?

Panels - you can create a Workspace:

You can also use File / User Settings / Export - but I'm not sure what will be preserved:

Find/Change Quesries - you can save them:
