Question

Touch Keyboard

I am running the latest version of Indesign with the latest update on a VAIO Z CANVAS with Windows 10.

Whenever I try to type or edit text the touch keyboard appears and is very annoying and I'm not in the touch work space mode.

I checked photoshop and illustrator but does not happen.

It didn't happen before the update.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

So it looks like the touchscreen popping up is STILL a problem? Huge productivity issue. I have a Surface book, I have Touch turned off in the preferences. Every time the keyboard pops up I press the alt key just to shut it down, but then as soon as I select something it pops up again!

Make sure you've got the latest version of InDesign, I'm pretty sure they have fixed this.
    I'm on version 11.3.0.34

I'm on a surface pro 3 and this issue drove me nuts for the better part of 5 months.

This bug is terrible, can't believe it is taking so long to resolve or come up with a work around!!

I have a HP ENVY 17 (CND5377K2Z) running windows 10 PRO, this notebook has a touch screen but is still a full sized regular notebook eg no detachable keyboard etc.

I'm workinging the classic workspace in InDesign CC 11.2.0.100 x64 & every time i click a text box the on screen keyboard appears & takes over half my screen, please help !

an established work around for us is to go disable the Touch Keyboard and Handwriting Panel Service (Tablet Input service)

    Thanks

I tried the workaround, it does not work for me.
My setup is Surface Pro 3 and updated version of Indesign CC 2015, USB wired keyboard...

I think this problem appeared after an update of Indesign, but I don't know when that was... november/december?

Microsoft Surface 3, docking station, USB-keyboard, Windows 8 and InDesign - same problem. I was not able to figure out fix for this. This is super annoying, let's hope there will be quick fix for this.

Can confirm it's happening on my Lenovo X220T. The workaround previously mentioned is not a fix. When in Tablet mode I rely on having the touch keyboard availble.

C'mon Adobe. Seriously test your stuff before shipping it to thousands of users. I need a fix, it's almost impossible to do anything with text now.

It's only happening on my laptop with both Touch Screen and Pen Input. This does not happen on my desktop that has neither.

I'm having the same issue with my Cintiq Companion running Windows 10 and InDesign 11.2.0.100 x64 build. It's frustrating because the other UI improvements lately have been SO COOL!  It is really too bad that this one issue affects my workflow so negatively.

Same set-up here. I got the wacom companion to enhance my workflow, but i keep having to close the osk whenever i add or try to edit text.

    Please help us, Adobe

Same issue. Recently changed to a Wacom screen to use for drawing and now InDesign is essentially unusable (in Windows 10).  Even just moving over a text field seems to make the keyboard pop up!  Needless to say it never appears in any other application.

It's one in a long line of Adobe failures to even pretend to adequately test on touch devices. I've had issues before with other Adobe apps. For example, if you have multiple monitors and set one that isn't your main screen to the touch input, if you then open an Illustrator window full-screen then the tool panel stops working (tools won't fly out if the edge of your window overlaps or is within one pixel of the edge of the touch screen, to be precise). I reported this bug multiple times across last year and it was always ignored - eventually I changed the way I work to suit the software, rather than waiting on a software fix that never came.  So on this basis, I don't expect Adobe to care about fixing this InDesign issue either.  Their entire touch implementation is a complete mess, based on half-baked features implemented for marketing purposes rather than any actual real-life usage.

This is insane. I have a convertible laptop that has a physical keyboard that is physically attached (HP Revolve 810 G2). I can understand this happening when the screen is folded down in tablet mode, but not when it's in laptop mode. Furthermore, this didn't happen in Windows 7, only Windows 8.1. This is sapping my productivity. Please fix ASAP.

Of course it didn’t happen in Windows 7. If you have Windows 10 you can turn off tablet mode. That might help.

I recently just "upgraded" to 8.1 to take advantage of the SSD drive in my laptop... I'm staying away from 10 for a long while. That being said, I think it's ridiculous that this "feature" exists in a supposedly mature product and mature OS.

It has definetly to do with some input divers or virtual input drivers. And Adobes software dont offer the option to disable all touch functions. That would be the best solution because its impossible to make solutions for all existing/upcoming input devices

Sure it has to do with the input device, but it is not a problem with the input device - it is a problem with Adobe. This is not a new problem, the exact same thing happened when they updated Illustrator for touch interface (Illustrator CC 2014 - October Update | Windows On-Screen Keyboard pops up) What kind of quality control does Adobe have if the same issues comes through? This explains all the issues we have every single time they bring out a new update. Creative Cloud feels more like a Beta testing platform than investing in a working product.
