Lightroom 2.0 will not export to Photoshop CS3

OK,

So I downloaded and installed lightroom 2.0 this morning and things are not working well.

System: Macpro 2.8, 8 gb ram, os x 10.5.4, nikon d300 raw files

The problem...

It started with Lightroom not exporting any images to photoshop. Doesn't matter if I try to send 1 or 20, I get a spinning beach ball, then nothing. if photoshop is closed it will open it, but nothing gets loaded into it. Plain export, merge to panoramic, edit as smart object, nothing does anything.

Tried in both 32 and 64 bit modes, tried re-installing Lightroom 2.0 from scratch. still nothing. I sent a sample raw file into adobe and am waiting to hear back, but figured I'd see what everyone else thinks as well.

I did more test & can confirm what someone else said... When the picture is on the C drive, it works (no ghost folder created when Edit in Photoshop)... the same RAW file on my E drive does create the ghost folder...

Note that both files on the C drive start with a CAPITALE C in metadata ... as oposed to the files on E... the original cr2 start with a CAPITALE E... the edited one with a lowercase e...

    Kevin,

I removed PS CS3 completely, re-installed, and LR 2.0 opens files just fine. I then ran the 10.0.1 update, and now LR 2.0 is back to not opening files.

I hope this is of some help.

Kevin - I just created a fresh catalog, imported three raw files then tried to edit by Ctrl E usding the default CS3 editor. The resulting TIFF file, when saved, was placed in a shadow version of the data folder...

Do you want a copy of this small catalog?

Until Kevin gets this fixed, there is a simple workaround FOR PROBLEM #2...

In preferences, load the executable photoshop.exe file as the alternate editor (in addition to Photoshop as the default). You will be told it is already the default, so select the button labelled "Use Anyway." Set bit depth, resolution, compression as you need. Then in LR2, select the file you wish to edit and type Ctrl-Alt-E [or right click and type e n]. The old edit dialog box will come up and after pressing Enter, CS3 will open. After editing, close/save and return to LR - now the file is in the library next to the original file (and grouped in a stack, if you chose that option).

Beware, Ctrl E will use the default editor version of CS3 and this is where the problems begin...namely the creation of a ghost folder and no file stacking with the original.

Hmm - I'm having problem #1 too - edit in CS3 only works if the file is a single JPG or TIFF exported without LR corrections. Doesn't work for any RAW, or for multiple images.
I've tried several times to install the 10.0.1 update - both through the Updater and by downloading and installing directly. Scripting Support still shows version 10.0 after all this. I even tried completely uninstalling CS3, restarting, and reinstalling everything - still can't get Scripting Support 10.0.1.
Is it possible to install the correct file directly?

I found if I opened in Photoshop.exe (Crtl+alt+e) instead of Photoshop CS3 (Crtl+E) the edited version was next to the original when I came back to LR and I didn't get the 'ghost' drive.

I don't know why it would make a difference - both open CS3?

    Kevin,
I am happy to send you my catalog - Do you need more? I am running on a vanilla Vista 32 bit system The catalog resides on my C-drive, containing 6000-plus images and it's size is approx. 97MB (uncompressed)

    Best,

    in my case:

    edit in PS ... works

all other options: edit as smart objects, hdr-merge, panorama-merge dont't (cause an error message that ps could not be opened; although it opened the program, but no images transferred into it)

    help appreciated.

Actually, you don't need to use the Recycle bin. It can be simpler than that.

Upon return from CS3, locate the ghost folder. In Windows just right-click on it and select Remove. LR will offer to remove the folder from LR and leave the photos on disk - which is what you want.

Then just go to the real folder and either use Synchronize or Import from the Library module to bring it back into the real folder. You can then stack it with the original.
