Question

Lightroom 2.0 will not export to Photoshop CS3

OK,

So I downloaded and installed lightroom 2.0 this morning and things are not working well.

System: Macpro 2.8, 8 gb ram, os x 10.5.4, nikon d300 raw files

The problem...

It started with Lightroom not exporting any images to photoshop. Doesn't matter if I try to send 1 or 20, I get a spinning beach ball, then nothing. if photoshop is closed it will open it, but nothing gets loaded into it. Plain export, merge to panoramic, edit as smart object, nothing does anything.

Tried in both 32 and 64 bit modes, tried re-installing Lightroom 2.0 from scratch. still nothing. I sent a sample raw file into adobe and am waiting to hear back, but figured I'd see what everyone else thinks as well.

    @ Steve

To the best of my knowledge there is NO solution to problem No2 at this time.
Yes your description of my solution is pretty much spot on. I move the newly created file to the Recycle Bin, delete the Ghost drive within LR2 knowing that there's nothing in it anyway and when it's gone do a Restore File from the Recycle Bin followed by a Sync folder in LR2 again.
It has to be said though that after reading this thread I am doing my editing in LR2 and holding off those that require further work outside of LR2 until they get this problem sorted. Without wishing to sound too negative this is only serving to remind me of the last big mess we experienced with the release of 1.4 I think it was leading to 1.4.1 being released with a solution.

I'm sorry, but I'm having some difficulty separating fixes, etc in the thread. I'm having problem #2 and i understand per Kevin that there is no current fix.

Can someone please walk me through their solution to working with the ghost folders? ElliR, are you moving the files in the original directory via explorer to some temporary directory, deleting the ghost folder in LR2, then moving them back? Couldn't you just rename the file in explorer, remove the ghost folder, then resynch? How to handle multiple files in large directories?

    Thanks!

    Steve

Edited: Running Vista Home Premium and XP pro and having the prblem both places, and I did have problem #1 on both my XP and Vista machines; solved by rebooting the system clean and reapplying the PS patch.

Jim, yes, please send yours - just the smaller one that demonstrates it, in the state it's in after the ghosting.

    Thanks,

Kevin - delighted to help you with catalogs to diagnose the ghosting problem.

I can easily send you a zipped catalog that hosts 1 images that demonstrates it, and another larger one from my laptop. I presume the catalog should be AFTER the transfer to CS3 and the save that SHOWS the ghosted drive.

Just let me know via the forum.

I meant Jim, not Paul. :-)

Paul, it sounds like you're seeing problem #2, which doesn't have anything to do with the Scripting Support plugin. It sounds like your install of CS3 10.0.1 is fine. We don't yet have any fix for the ghost folder problem, but hopefully we'll find one soon. :-)

I need a little more help in diagnosing problem #2; I need to get a copy of a couple catalogs that are showing this problem. No image files are necessary, and the catalog file tends to zip up pretty small.

If you'd be willing to share your catalog with me (and I can assure you of complete confidentiality), please send me an email at kevint (at) adobe.com.

To avoid getting inundated with files, however, I just ask that you send a quick email first, before sending the catalog.

    Thanks!

I'm running Vista too. But, I cannot find the temporary files you are mentioning. I even re-ran the 10.0.1 update, and then did a search. Does the install clean up after itself?

With ref to Armnin's suggestions .... that sounds interesting. But I guess we will all have something slightly different here.

I checked Kevin's suggestion using PS Help System Info and my Scripting Support is 10.0.1

In my Patcher history, in Temp, I have several runs - but none with a 1015 file, as shown in Armin's example. My installed Scripting Support is 2,961,408 bytes, dated Oct 20-2007.

So, perhaps we could share some more detail here.

My Camera Raw is reported by CS3 as 4.5.0.175 in About PlugIns

Armin, copying over the ScriptingSupport plugin may work, but I'm concerned that's not the only file not getting updated. This should be used only as an absolute last resort, in my opinion. Personally, I'd attempt a reinstall of Photoshop and another re-run of the patcher before I'd do the manual patch.

But thank you for the suggestion; it may help some people.
