Lightroom 2.0 will not export to Photoshop CS3

OK,

So I downloaded and installed lightroom 2.0 this morning and things are not working well.

System: Macpro 2.8, 8 gb ram, os x 10.5.4, nikon d300 raw files

The problem...

It started with Lightroom not exporting any images to photoshop. Doesn't matter if I try to send 1 or 20, I get a spinning beach ball, then nothing. if photoshop is closed it will open it, but nothing gets loaded into it. Plain export, merge to panoramic, edit as smart object, nothing does anything.

Tried in both 32 and 64 bit modes, tried re-installing Lightroom 2.0 from scratch. still nothing. I sent a sample raw file into adobe and am waiting to hear back, but figured I'd see what everyone else thinks as well.

With ref to Armnin's suggestions .... that sounds interesting. But I guess we will all have something slightly different here.

I checked Kevin's suggestion using PS Help System Info and my Scripting Support is 10.0.1

In my Patcher history, in Temp, I have several runs - but none with a 1015 file, as shown in Armin's example. My installed Scripting Support is 2,961,408 bytes, dated Oct 20-2007.

So, perhaps we could share some more detail here.

My Camera Raw is reported by CS3 as 4.5.0.175 in About PlugIns

Just to note, all the fixes that have been listed on this forum are only to address problem #1: the files not opening in Photoshop. This includes Betty's fix of changing the bit depth, removing the apostrophe from the path, and re-running the Photoshop 10.0.1 patcher. If you're experiencing problem #2 (ghost folder), don't bother with any of these fixes, they won't help. :-(

I took a deeper look into the 10.0.1-patch and found a solution.

Atleast with my installation (CS 3 int on Vista X64SP1), the patch upgrades photoshop.exe, but keeps several plugins, dlls and other files untouched although it ships newer versions for these files.

The cause for most of the here described problems seems to be a not upgraded plugin "ScriptingSupport.8li"

Nevertheless it is possible to extract a working version from within the patch-archive:

The 10.0.1-patch extracts itself into a temp-folder on your computer and thanks to great programming-style ;-) doesn't cleanup after completion.

Find the extracted files in %temp%\Patcher\Patcherxxxx
"xxxx" is a random-number and unique to each run of the patcher.

In subfolder "StagingArea" locate file "1015", rename it to "ScriptingSupport.8li" and copy it (replace) over the existing file in your photoshop-folder
    (e.g. C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS3\Plug-Ins\Automate)

After restarting photoshop, LR2 & PS CS3 got along with each other.

    Good luck,
    Armin.

    Kevin

Mines problem 2 using Windows XP SP3 and have posted a screenshot here:

    http://community.dcmag.co.uk/photos/alan_inghams_gallery/images/851676/original.aspx

I took one dng image out of the Grossglockner folder, right clicked and chose the option 'Edit in CS3'. The image, as per options set in Preferences opened in CS3 as a TIFF. Nothing was done to this image and from the Menu I chose 'Save As' choosing TIFF and back into the same Grossglockner folder. As you can see from the screenshot, a Ghost drive has been created containing the TIFF image.

Looking in Explorer, there is of course just the one Grossglockner folder containing both the original dng and tiff files and deleting the newly generated TIFF is not an option because it either is removed from the catalogue or removed from the disk. My way around this as a temporary measure is to move the newly created TIFF in Explorer and then Sync the Grossglockner folder which will detect the additional file. The Ghost drive now indicates zero images and can be deleted by right clicking.

PS Have also tried the 10.0.1, Preferences and other tricks mentioned to no avail.

I've tried the suggested fixex...new catalog, reapplied 10.0.1 patch,re-installed the new Adobe RAW plugin, folder names were already OK, etc....still can't use Edit in Photoshop; it opens CS3 but never opens the photo and Lightroom 2.0 says it can't open CS3. Pretty frustrating at this point as this point in regard to workflow. Hope a patch is coming soon.

I also just deleted my lightroom 2.0 prefs file (and the LR1.4 file that was still on the system). I reopened LR2.0, tried the same edit - same ghosting problem.

Then I tried Betty's suggestion of resetting bit depth - still no solution...

So the problem is still here despite the repatching, new prefs file, and the bit depth adjustment.

Only think I can think of now, is deleting LR1.4 completely from the system...

    Kevin - I'm on Windows.

I reloaded the 10.0.1 patch - no change. However, I wasn't experiencing problem 1 (inability to open CS3), only problem 2 - edited files does not appear in same catalog only in a shadow folder.

I also tried Betty's fix of resetting preferences - since I was already at 8 bit, I went to 16 bit, then back to 8. Nothing has changed, so the problem remains.

Is there a way to remove and recreate preferences - maybe that might work?

    Kevin

I tried changing the bit depth to 8-bits for the transfer. The transfer still worked okay, but the ghost folder still re-appeared as a result of the SAVE in CS3.

    Kevin,

    Windows PC, XP SP2.

According to your criteria, my update to CS3 is applied properly and I have the 10.0.1 for CS3 and for the Scripting Support.

So, my transfer goes into CS3 just fine.

I created a new LR2 catalog, called NEW. I imported one NEF from a folder on disk. PREVIOUS INPUT folder shows 1 file. I executed 'Edit in CS3' - but did not receive a dialog box (however, I made no mods to the NEF file). I saved in CS3 and it still went back to the 'ghost' folder and not the originating folder. So, no change here to what I've experienced all along. PREVIOUS INPUT folder now shows 2 files. If you visit that, it shows the NEF and the -Edit.psd version ... but they are not stacked.

As for the comments in this thread regarding XMP files, I do NOT have

[ ] Automatically write changes into XMP

    ticked in my Catalog settings.

No apostrophes in my camera file names or this new catalog.
